Years ago, on Channel 4 in the UK, they made a list of what they considered the top 100 animated works of all time. If memory serves me, they put this anime on that list for some reason, though I can't remember which number. A list containing such epic works like Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and the Lion King, and somehow THIS gets put alongside them. Although I could be remembering that wrong, given how many years ago the list was made.

I'm really surprised that, after all these years, La Blue Girl and Bible Black STILL haven't been reviewed. La Blue Girl I can kind of get; its format was pretty episodic, the six episodes had wildly different plots, and probably would need more than one review to cover it all (not including the sequels "Lady Blue" and "La Blue Girl Returns.") but the original Bible Black had a simple premise- a boy discovers a book that makes girls fall in love with him and becomes the target of a cult led by a demon-possessed blond teacher looking to transfer its essence in a new body- the body of the boy's childhood friend. The only ally the boy has is a redheaded teacher who was responsible for summoning the demon that possessed the blond teacher in the first place 10 years ago. It's a simple premise! Why hasn't Suave reviewed it?

Overfiend is the Picaso of anime that has influenced almost all anime and videogames after it. The art in the anime is dirty, wretched, but full of a madman's passion. And although the dubbing may be flawed, it made it that much easier for a certain 14-year old kid to watch it, on one faithful day back in 1994... :)
I love his reviews but as soon as he said he is reviewing the censored version I can't take it seriously anymore. Reviewing censored anime is like a beer review of seltzer water.
It's also very likely the only animated film to be rated NC-17. Yes, the American distributors actually sent the edited film version of this to the MPAA to rate this. Edit: at first I wasn't sure but I did 3 seconds of research and yes, the version that was rated nc-17 was the cut version. Apparently with THIRTY MINUTES cut, on top of that. That's some "A Serbian Film" shit right there.
I love the 3rd Urotsukidoji. The Return of the Overfiend. It still has all the tentacle grape and such, but it also has an amazing story that is a sequel to the events from the first Urotsukidoji. The second one, Legend of the Demon Womb, is just a prequel that details why Megumi realised that Nagumo was the Overfiend before her brother Omanujaku realised it.
A friend of mine found the original with all three parts on a video tape in her dad's pornstash. The uncut version is a lot nicer to look at and flows really well. It's still more of a horror movie but it's so fun to watch.

I think perhaps you may not understand the psychology of the kind of person who peeps on unaware women. Probably 99% of them are actually so terrified of women and sex that they will actually have a panic attack when faced with the actual deed, particularly with an aggressive woman. @keith getz There was plenty of extended plot scenes and what have you included in the OVA's, as well as alot of shots of sex/naughty bits either added back in or unaltered as in the movie cut, some were darkened up or zoomed-in. Some scene were also reordered as well. The OVA's, all together with credits are around two and a half hours while the movie cut is a hour and forty five minutes.
I agree. I have seen many older titles from the 80's and early 90's and they are all amazing. The golden age of Anime has really been between 1985 and 1995.

I watched Overfiend 1 and 2 back in the day. They both had the same characters, but made no sense continuity-wise. With what happened in the first how was the second even possible?

This review and another one make it sound like the anime was kind of screwed up in comparison to the manga. And the English translation was even more screwed up. But it makes sense to me that the guy who was trying to have sex wouldn't immediately have sex with the demon who showed up. Of all the weird things you could point out about this anime, that's the least weird thing that happened.

This one was originally a 2 part anime in Japan. But it got strung together into one movie when it released out here. There is quite a bit of back story that was cut and shown out of sequence. But hey it was the 90s we didn't care. Lol
still pretty sure the only reason you reviewed this is because, like me, you rented it from the anime section of a local video store and had NO IDEA what it was in the late 90s

When I was a kid there was a TV block for anime movies and OVAs after midnight on regular TV here in Brazil, they had the brains to understand that those anime were not for kids but since they had cool movies like Akira airing sometimes we kids used to stay up to watch them ... and one night they aired this bullshit ... it was not cool, dude

@keith getz There was plenty of extended plot scenes and what have you included in the OVA's, as well as alot of shots of sex/naughty bits either added back in or unaltered as in the movie cut, some were darkened up or zoomed-in. Some scene were also reordered as well. The OVA's, all together with credits are around two and a half hours while the movie cut is a hour and forty five minutes.
You should review a yaoi or shounen-ai next!

I really love Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, and it's one of the best anime film since between Akira and Vampire Hunter D.
I agree. I have seen many older titles from the 80's and early 90's and they are all amazing. The golden age of Anime has really been between 1985 and 1995.

I watched Overfiend 1 and 2 back in the day. They both had the same characters, but made no sense continuity-wise. With what happened in the first how was the second even possible?

This review and another one make it sound like the anime was kind of screwed up in comparison to the manga. And the English translation was even more screwed up.
But it makes sense to me that the guy who was trying to have sex wouldn't immediately have sex with the demon who showed up. Of all the weird things you could point out about this anime, that's the least weird thing that happened.

When the guy's dick exploded that innocent nurse lady...that scarred me quite a bit. But overall, this is a fucking hilarious and fun anime to watch. It's so bad that's it's fucking amazing. Highly recommended. But the uncut version only, that one is much better.
