I have the same dispenser, and from what I can tell that solenoid gives a quick pulse to open the detergent door, and later opens for a longer period of time to dispense the rinse aid. One cable runs the solenoid, while the other seems to be the rinse aid sensor. The solenoid measures ~2100 ohms, and says 155-180 VDC, which is pretty surprising.
Glass Half Full - correct it's a solenoid. And the so called hex screw is a known as a TORX screw, so if buying a set to open this & numerous other items with torx screws - DON'T purchase or attempt to use a hex screw (using one would probably just round-off all the curvey notches which mean you can't ever get the Torx screw out).
The vinegar soak took a couple of days but did remove the calcium(?) buildup. Now detergent door is back to moving freely and working properly. Your video fix did illuminate the solenoid's operation quite well, thanks. I do have a question you could likely answer: How far into the wash cycle does this solenoid get activated to release the detergent?
Just a heads-up: my dispenser is the same as the one shown in the video but the motor in the product listed in the description isn't an exact match; you'll have to replace the whole assembly (not just the motor inside) to make it work
Question: did you just take the actuator/solenoid from the assembly you ordered out and put it in the existing assembly in the washer? Or did you remove/replace the whole thing?
Yes sorry for the poor instructional video I did everything in post and didn't want to undo it all so I was being lazy. Yes I just replaced the solenoid cuz it pops out really easily it's much more straightforward than if I had to remove the entire soap container I think that would have been more involved.
And btw, your video demo is quite informative and useful. Thanks for posting. I've managed to pull the top off of the dispenser and with vinegar soak the buildup is dissolving. Fingers crossed moment coming.

What people can try first is vinegar and or calcium foam spray and take a toothbrush but douce it prior each time several times, several minutes apart. This did remove some calcification and got me 3 more years till today so I may need to replace the unit you show. I don’t think it throws a code for soap not dispensing.

I wish I did. It's pretty easy though. What I'd recommend is sitting down in front of the door. Pull the door down and as you remove the screws you legs will support the outer stainless housing. For extra protection you could always tape off the door to protect it.

After taking out the screws on the door my husband didn't hold it down and the front fell off when the door went up disconnecting the wires. He put them back together but the DW won't turn on. I would like to see a picture of his all the wires connect, there is one to the box that goes in both ways and were not sure which way is correct. Any other ideas of what to look for to the DW to turn on?

When it was off I noticed the soap dispenser (same as the one in your video) was full of water. When you replaced your Dispenser was the old one you removed also full of water? I’m trying to establish if this is normal or whether my Dispenser is faulty. If you could get back to me I’d be most grateful, as I haven’t been able to find a reply to this question anywhere. Iam replacing my Frigidaire dishwasher just because the soap tray does not dispense . Same problem 😕 it's so sad that the design is so bad even on bosch! I can't order bosch now. Thank you so much for all the information ! Very helpful

Yes since I replaced the original detergent compartment, I'm not had one issue so clearly the first iteration that was released was defective. But now it's rock solid no issues at all. I just feel bad for all the people that had to pay for someone to come out and fix it it's really something that Bosch should have paid for. And for as many views as this video has clearly this could have been a nice class action lawsuit.
We don't have the same model, but ours, too, typical of Bosch DWs, has the soap dispenser and rinse-aid compartment as one unit. The lid of our rinse-aid disoenser doesn't remain closed, causing the fluid to spill early in the cycle, leaving white residue on the dishes. Apparently the heating element gets a signal from this dispenser (once the lid opens) to boost the water temperature for the final wash, and then continue with high temperature drying. Has anyone have had similar issues with the rinse-aid dispenser lid and/or know how to fix it? Would really appreciate it. A Tech recommended replacing the $900+ DW, whereas I understand the replacement parts cost under $50. Any tips/insights will be greatly appreciated.
Word of advice. Stop using pods they do more damage to the circulating pump and drain pump impellers. Use cascade liquid, your dishwasher will last longer.

The device is called a solenoid.
This is called a solenoid, which creates a electromagnetic field to push or pull this metal pin.
Do you have a demo on removing the inside panel of the door to make this part replacement? Not much to it but would like to "see" it done. Thanks

Update: We found bowls were actually blocking it from opening was our issue.
Yeah really should be a manufacturer defect but it is actually pretty easy to fix.

Mine started doing this after two months. What an utter piece of junk. Bosch is the absolute worst. I’ll never buy another.
Since we did the repair it hasn't broken down at all. Feels like a manufacturing defect. Really it should have been a recall.
