    Barbie The Welder is an American metal sculptor, published author of six books, and an advocate for the skilled trades from Pompano Beach, Florida.
    Growing up in a deeply creative home, Barbie’s Mom is a published cartoonist and her Dad a jack of all trades, Barbie was encouraged by both parents to work with her hands and mind to create. Inspired by the movie Cast Away, starring Tom hanks, Barbie attended an adult welding program at Elmira, New York Boces in November 2007 and was hired at Cameron Manufacturing And Design in Horseheads, New York in March 2008 where she learned the art of welding and fabrication from the brilliant craftsman she worked with. Barbie took her fabrication skills home and taught herself how to design and create art in her garage after work at night and on the weekends.
    Barbie quit her job she loved to realize her dream and become a full-time artist September 1, 2014.
    Because of the influence Bob Ross had on her growing up, Barbie began teaching how to weld art through her TH-cam channel in 2015 after not being able to find resources to learn.
    Soon after she was invited by a publisher to write a book teaching how to weld art, and How To Weld Horseshoe Art; 30 Projects You Can Easily Weld At Home was born. Barbie went on to write and self publish five more books, How To Weld Scrap Metal Art; 30 Easy Welding Projects You Could Make At Home, How To Weld Silverware Animals Metal Art Welding Projects For Fun and Profit, The Inspiration Blueprint; How To Design and Create Your Inspired Life, Fuck You Fuel; How To Turn Shit Into Sugar, and The Artist Guide To Branding, Marketing and Selling Art Online.
    Working with Bogi Latiner for a month in 2017 on Bogi’s Girl Gang Garage all woman’s frame up build of a 57 Chevy pick up later unveiled at Sema became a mentorship for Barbie that continues to help her grow herself and her business. Barbies other inspirations include Indian Larry and Billy Lane both who caught her attention through the TV series biker build off in early 2000. The craftsmanship and creativity of both men spoke to her soul.
    Barbie started out riding on the gas tank of her dad‘s Honda motorcycle because she was too little to hold on sitting behind him, so when she was asked by Jesse James Dupree, lead singer of Jackyl, to design and create two sculptures for Harley Davidson she jumped at the chance driving the 24 hours to Sturgis by herself from NY and sculpting HOGs 35th anniversary sculpture live at Sturgis motorcycle rally at the Pappy Hoyle Campground and then she returned home to sculpt Harley Davidson’s 115th anniversary sculpture in her garage which was later presented to Harley Davidson on stage during the Jackyl concert at the 115 anniversary celebration in Milwaukee.
    Barbie has welded live at Americade Motorcycle Rally, SEMA show in Vegas for Miller Welders, Harley Davidsons 115th Anniversary, and at shows and events up and down the east coast.
    Barbie has designed and created sculptures for Miller Welders, the American Welding Society, Chicago Pneumatic, Carolina Shoe Company, two cities and clients in many countries.

    Just what I needed to see and hear. I am not the only one figuring things out as I go! Hearing the struggle and concern in the present tense, and yet knowing how well it turned out, is so encouraging. There is so much to learn and so much to attempt. I wish i had done it years ago. It is frustrating and frightening to realize how much may get left undone.... 😮
    Back to it!

    I love your "Can do" attitude. Awesome. I like the way you innocently say "I never made a dragon before, but I'll figure it out" 8 feet tall and 10 feet long. reminds me of that old saying "go big or go home"! Barbie went big! You have a very soothing way of teaching. Thank you Ma'am.

    Nice work Barbie, as long as you have enough support framework for the weight of the finished sculpture, you will be fine

    • @BarbieTheWelder
      @BarbieTheWelder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been working on getting a better welder, mine is not hot enough to make the framework so Argon has been patiently waiting for me in the side yard!

    • @royevetts4900
      @royevetts4900 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bigger welder is always handy, you could always try layering the welds, sometimes a better option anyway.....and will certainly strengthen the joints. Argon will be happy to have the extra strength....if you imagine the dragon having a ribcage and backbone etc...build it the same way, his legs will need have to be a pretty decent frame to take his whole weight.
      If you draw him out I'll work it out for you with the weight...approx, if you can.

    BarbieYou are a breath of fresh air on TH-cam because you don't take yourself too seriously and still get the job done. You are also a gifted artist. I can't wait to see the dragon when he is finished and breathing fire. How much do you think it will ultimately weigh when finished?Respectfully, RJB

    An idea you might want to consider for the fire breathing dragon would be to release short burst of pressurized gas, and controlling the release with an electric solenoid (12 or 24 volt ) that you could control with a wireless remote control. 😎

    Barbie! I'm really diggin' what you've been up to! Every since I got into welding in 2011 I've been wanting to build a big metal sculpture. I've made a bunch smaller ones, but it has allowed me to learn how to fabricate & shape the metal as well as collect a bunch of scrap metal for the "one of these days" big build. I wish you the best and will be here watching you on your journey! .... oh & how do you like the Cobra torch. I got one like 3 months ago & I like it's potential ;)

    • @BarbieTheWelder
      @BarbieTheWelder  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Construct Icon thank you!! I'm excited to see your sculptures and when you go big definitely share your pictures with me! Why did you get into welding? What is the subject of the sculptures you've created so far?

    • @ConstructIcon
      @ConstructIcon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BarbieTheWelder I'm someone who has always loved creating all sorts of things & metal was one I hadn't embarked on....until I decided to take some classes at my local BOCES tech school in 2011. That coupled with the idea of learning something new & being self reliant if I ever needed to fix or make something was appealing. Have since got into metal fabrication & blacksmithing. I've made a few videos here on YT , but have made many more mini metal sculptures off camera. I love mixing metal with wood & other materials, but animals & creatures are my favorites things to sculpt out of metal.

    Nice work, Barbie. It's great that you're not afraid to dive in and figure it out as you go. Is that rebar you are using for the framework? I'm new at welding and want to do something similar to commemorate my little dog, Wishbone. I had to say goodbye to her last week after nearly 16 years. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing.

    • @BarbieTheWelder
      @BarbieTheWelder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ken Head the 1/4 steel is roundbar. I can bend it by hand without hearing and have found it works good for projects like this where I need to create an exoskeleton. I'm so sorry to hear about Wishbone but I can only imagine how wonderful you creating a sculpture of her will be and all the beautiful memories you will remember as you create her. I would love to see the finished project! Best wishes!

    If you haven't gotten to the removable wings yet, consider using 1 1/4" square tubing through the body of the dragon then using 1' square tubing for the main wing supports. The wing supports can then slide into the body tubing to be removable then reassembled. This is what I did to make adjustable legs on the work platform I made for my smoker trailer and they work fine.

    • @BarbieTheWelder
      @BarbieTheWelder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Winking Pig Bar-B-Q great idea! I do have 2" pipe set up and will use them to slide the wings into!! In theory I feel it should work!😜

    • @TheWinkingPigBarBQ
      @TheWinkingPigBarBQ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, it's the same concept and I'm all for using any material you already have on hand. As I was writing it I was wondering if there were comparable steel tubing/pipe sizes that might work as well but I've never tried it. A word of information for you or one of the readers if you don't know, steel tubing and steel pipe sizes are not the same and are not interchangeable. If a project calls for steel tubing, buy steel tubing, not steel pipe and vice versa. In my area I buy 3/4" steel tubing and 1/2" round bar to make hinges from the steel supplier, you can buy "black pipe" from your big box store or a plumbing supply house.

  • @AtticusDraco

    besides size,,
    you're gonna hafta be concerned about weight too,yeah?
    that can quickly become heavy,
    i mean, beyond them casters you're currently using, heavy?
    shouldn't you have made that modular?
    how ya know it's a dude?
    thanx for sharing your dragon,, best of luck with the remainder of project!

    • @BarbieTheWelder
      @BarbieTheWelder  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Atticus Draco Because I don't have an engineer working with me I'm erring on the side of caution for building and doing everything I know to keep it strong. I don't know how heavy it will be but the casters are temporarily for me to have the ability to move it around while I construct it. I have a feeling I will need to hire a crane to put it on a flatbed trailer when it is time to transport. Good question about if it's a guy, guess I just assumed😜 Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to write!!
