    Barbie The Welder is an American metal sculptor, published author of six books, and an advocate for the skilled trades from Pompano Beach, Florida.
    Growing up in a deeply creative home, Barbie’s Mom is a published cartoonist and her Dad a jack of all trades, Barbie was encouraged by both parents to work with her hands and mind to create. Inspired by the movie Cast Away, starring Tom hanks, Barbie attended an adult welding program at Elmira, New York Boces in November 2007 and was hired at Cameron Manufacturing And Design in Horseheads, New York in March 2008 where she learned the art of welding and fabrication from the brilliant craftsman she worked with. Barbie took her fabrication skills home and taught herself how to design and create art in her garage after work at night and on the weekends.
    Barbie quit her job she loved to realize her dream and become a full-time artist September 1, 2014.
    Because of the influence Bob Ross had on her growing up, Barbie began teaching how to weld art through her TH-cam channel in 2015 after not being able to find resources to learn.
    Soon after she was invited by a publisher to write a book teaching how to weld art, and How To Weld Horseshoe Art; 30 Projects You Can Easily Weld At Home was born. Barbie went on to write and self publish five more books, How To Weld Scrap Metal Art; 30 Easy Welding Projects You Could Make At Home, How To Weld Silverware Animals Metal Art Welding Projects For Fun and Profit, The Inspiration Blueprint; How To Design and Create Your Inspired Life, Fuck You Fuel; How To Turn Shit Into Sugar, and The Artist Guide To Branding, Marketing and Selling Art Online.
    Working with Bogi Latiner for a month in 2017 on Bogi’s Girl Gang Garage all woman’s frame up build of a 57 Chevy pick up later unveiled at Sema became a mentorship for Barbie that continues to help her grow herself and her business. Barbies other inspirations include Indian Larry and Billy Lane both who caught her attention through the TV series biker build off in early 2000. The craftsmanship and creativity of both men spoke to her soul.
    Barbie started out riding on the gas tank of her dad‘s Honda motorcycle because she was too little to hold on sitting behind him, so when she was asked by Jesse James Dupree, lead singer of Jackyl, to design and create two sculptures for Harley Davidson she jumped at the chance driving the 24 hours to Sturgis by herself from NY and sculpting HOGs 35th anniversary sculpture live at Sturgis motorcycle rally at the Pappy Hoyle Campground and then she returned home to sculpt Harley Davidson’s 115th anniversary sculpture in her garage which was later presented to Harley Davidson on stage during the Jackyl concert at the 115 anniversary celebration in Milwaukee.
    Barbie has welded live at Americade Motorcycle Rally, SEMA show in Vegas for Miller Welders, Harley Davidsons 115th Anniversary, and at shows and events up and down the east coast.
    Barbie has designed and created sculptures for Miller Welders, the American Welding Society, Chicago Pneumatic, Carolina Shoe Company, two cities and clients in many countries.

    After seeing you other motivational vid's something changed in me and now, after 19 month unemployment I found myself a job completely out of my comfort zone. I was afraid to do it, but now, after one and a half week, I love it. And I only was searching for an instructional video on how to MIG weld. You changed my life. Thank you!

    You are speaking to me right now. Thank you. I was at the shop and creating a sculpture...and might I add that I'm newer at sculpting. I'm fighting this piece I'm working on. I don't think it's truly feeding my soul. I can buy and sell and I'm geared towards doing so. But like you I don't want to mass produce. I want to make single one of a kind pieces. Also I need to find local artist to help keep the momentum going.
    Love your work...keep doing what you do!!

      Nick I am ass produced a lot of stuff in the beginning and I feel like sometimes that’s what needs to be done in order to learn and grow and figure out what works and what doesn’t the mass produce stuff as were pays the bills while you’re doing the one of a kind stuff unless you have a social media following and you sold a few pieces if you’ve got a reputation for making the art and can get away with it then please only do the one of the kind of stuff if that’s what you’re feeding your soul.

    Barbie , being "Bespoke Only", is probably good for the Bank Acct....
    You still need to remember your "roots" in the Artisan World ....
    Sure, the 'one offs' are great, and it will get your passion burning inside again, but you still need, that Plan B, as you said you don't have.
    I really enjoy all of your video's, such raw emotion, and passion in each and everyone of them !!
    Don't ever under estimate, the "mass produced items" ... they ARE / WERE your bread and butter ....
    Enough of my ranting ...
    Love your Work, and you ARE inspirational .

    Barbie, I am going to disagree with you about your dropping "mass produced items" from your range of works.
    The reasons are; small items sell well and are easy to ship, good for your cash flow, you can knock them out as "bread and butter work" while letting your mind mull over an idea for a current or future project, a great option if you get stuck or have a creative log jam and just a little variety every now and then. Not everybody can afford to commission a work of art, but they can often afford to buy a small "unique piece by an artist".
    One small business book I read advocated having a [or several] part time or regular gig[s] just to "keep the meter running", then with regular bills taken care of, you can chase the work "that feeds your soul".

      +Collin Smith Etsy is phenomenal! I’ve sold art to clients in 12 different countries through Etsy. My best advice is to make a great title, use words in the title you would use to search for that item. Take phenomenal pictures. If you’re not good at photography TH-cam how to do better. A great description helps as well.

      I apologize for taking so long to respond, I was out of town. Jack you are in a beautiful place, although you may not feel like it right now! When your back is against the wall you have no where to go but forward, and YOU WILL! Your social media is free advertising, it just takes some time to learn how to market yourself on the different platforms, Facebook people like different stuff than Instagram. Take some time and watch a few videos on marketing your art on social media. Great pictures are your number one for selling online. Locally you may have some country shops, craft shops, and small mom and pop shops, flower shops, who you can sell your art through. They usually take from 25-35% commission, but they advertise and have regulars so this is a trade-off, it will help you build your name. Small farm shows, county fairs, apple festivals, Christmas festivals are all places you can set up a booth and sell your art. They usually advertise in local papers and on Facebook looking for vendors. They will want payment up front $35-up to set up for a day or weekend. Finally there is EBAY and ETSY. I sell online exclusively through ETSY and have been able to create art for clients in 13 different countries on that platform. There are videos on how to sell on Etsy. Your main job right now is to learn how to market and sell yourself and your art.

    You are an amazing lady!!! But never underestimate the value of a Plan B.

    • @BarbieTheWelder
      @BarbieTheWelder  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +BladeforgerKLX I appreciate your kind words but with all due respect I can’t have a plan B. For me, and everyone is different, plan B gives me an out if stuff don’t work. For me having an out is like saying you don’t have to go all in and succeed, it’s like leaving a couple boats unburnt. In the back of my head there is an escape so I feel that I don’t have to be as inventive or fight as hard to win. I love the challenge of having to figure out how to make my situation work. But again everyone is different, what works for me wont necessarily work for everyone. Thank you kindly for taking your time to watch my video!💙👩‍🏭

      @NewportStudio 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Barbie you are just awesome as I’ve said before. I agree with you 100%. EVERYONE is extremely different, what works for one will more than likely not work for another. I must say to you again; after walking away from an extremely “comfortable” position in business nearly two years ago just because I knew I wanted MORE, is shaping my future into exactly what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m not talking about more money, just the opposite. Feeding the soul, giving birth to something that has never been created before, making something from nothing, etc… there are a lot of analogies, but my point about a “Plan B” and anyone else that might read this; YOU must do what you already KNOW you must do. No more thinking about it, no more “Yea, I really want to do that someday”. Someday is today. It is scary as hell not knowing if it will work or not, but do you want to grow old knowing you never tried? You cannot have any regrets later, its an empty life. You cannot look back in your 70’s and say, “I really should have done what I always wanted to do.” I don’t know how else to put it other than if you know you want to do it and you know you have it deep inside of your soul, you must do it. Don’t just try, burn the boat as Barbie said so you have no other option. Again scary as shit getting into what you must give to the world, not knowing if it will work or not. I just don’t think a person can be truly happy without showing the world what you have to offer, and I don’t think you can fully offer it without going all in. Just my thoughts. Thanks again Barbie! Keep being you!

    • @BladeforgerKLX
      @BladeforgerKLX 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1
