    It doesn't boot because most of this boxes run on arm, and most computers are x86. Of course there would be driver issues as well

    I just picked up a Sweet i5-6600 mini-tower at the eWaste place Monday for $40.00 UnTested: Powered Up, but no further Testing.
    Killer Deal! Plays Up thru PS2 very well. Needs a PCIe Video card, Gotata Budget Shop, it only has a Half-Sized 300-watt Power Supply.
    Headed back tomorrow to see if there's any left.
    Well Done Sir!!

      Awesome! 6th gen i-series systems are really good emulation options right now. A lot of them out there for cheap and solid performance. Nice find!

      same. Optiplex 5050, 16gb ddr4, i5 6600. Replaced my Nvidia shield tv box. I'm so much happier now. It was 60 bucks with the upgrades. Wireless keyboard and mouse. Wireless game controller. Nvidia shield didn't stand a chance

      If you want a super cheap graphics card that might hold you over for something better later on, I've seen the R7 250 2GB GDDR3 OEM going for as low as $12 on eBay before. I was able to play Hollow Knight, Mass Effect 2, Deus Ex HR, C&C3, Dead Space (original version), Flatout Ultimate Carnage, and several other 360/PS3 era games with it. Paired with an Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.7ghz and 2x2GB DDR2.
      Not exactly sure on the wattage requirements though. I was running 430W with all that.

    once they do this emulation for chairdesk i see more upside - you know what you are comfortable with but try to avoid pool noodle insubordination issues - go slowly as to avoid widespread social unrest - i for one welcome the cheap office pc emulation beast - maybe it will have ai soon?

    Emulation boxes are probably rebranded Android TV boxes that were a thing a few years ago. Like others said, they use ARM processors, of which AmLogic ones are common. EmuELEC and Lakka are distros that would work on them.

    If anyone has a really old PC with BIOS only (not UEFI capable), you can actually boot Batocera after v26! You just have to convert the boot partition to FAT32 so BIOS will read it.
    It bugged me for SO LONG that I was stuck with Batocera legacy on my PCs from 2008. Some old BIOS systems do have compatibility with the way Batocera 27+ is set up. But mine would not read the boot partition. It would boot once to set up the filesystem, but any boots after that would just hang. Converting Batocera's boot partition to FAT32 with Partition Wizard fixed it.
    If you don't want to go through all the trouble or have no luck with this, versions up to Batocera 26 also work with no issues on BIOS systems.

    The OS will not boot on a PC because most of these boxes are ARM based SBC's with different hardware and firmware from a PC and they usually run some sort of embedded ARM linux, it's more like a raspberry pi then a PC. PC's are x86.
    Anyway, speaking of those boxes, sometimes very "rebelious people" create tools to insert new games into those cards, like I know a some guy in russia has made some tools for the NES/SNES classic to insert more roms.

  • @echoingdespair
    @echoingdespair 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    the reason it wouldnt boot is a difference in cpu architecture. these emulation boxes tend to run on low power arm based cpus instead of the traditional x86_64

  • @xPLAYnOfficial
    @xPLAYnOfficial 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Having someone else "do the piracy for you" plus avoiding all the sketchy websites / expensive hardware you would need to put yourself through to otherwise acquire the necessary files for emulation sounds like a killer deal for $30 and some elbow grease (plus then we get to play some of the "gems" that come on these systems on an actually-good emulator to see just how terrible they really are haha).

    Used mini pcs like the 705 g4 can do gamecube and ps2 for around $100

  • @youzernejm
    @youzernejm 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    There isn't a way to make that sd card bootable from the PC. It was compiled for the ARM architecture and, quite often so they would eke out every drop of meager power, for that specific soc. Don't bother trying.
    How did you manage running PS2 on a 4130? It's been a while since I've tried (my Acer is ridiculously loud, and me too lazy to delid), but I could emulate light games (like FFX excluding open world regions, KH and such). Medium ones, like GT3 could almost be set up with a lot of tweaking to run the easiest stages, almost. Harder ones like GW didn't even make any difference between OpenGL and software rendering, it was the same slideshow no matter what I did. Have there been some major updates for Batocera, or have you installed a dgpu?

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      My guess is that it's mainly due to advances in emulation, because I am just running integrated graphics and it didn't take much tweaking or anything. The system is also running 16gb RAM, dual channel, so that could be a factor. But yeah, nothing really special about the system so I imagine the improvements are largely on the software side.

    • @youzernejm
      @youzernejm 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LowcastleTech Thanks. I was running 4 dual channel, which should be plenty for Batocera, but I might give it another go in the future.

    Booting directly from the card in your main PC would likely be due to a difference in processor architectures. Your PC is like an x64 whereas the emulator is something ARM based.
