    This is actually one of the more powerful OEM Radeon cards from that era.

    Wow, what coincidental timing! I literally just did a video on the $40 LP RX 550, not much more expensive than this one, but definitely a lot more powerful! Nice vid!

    Some of these small OEM gpus from the time were designed to be able to run in crossfire together with the integrated gpus in amds bulldozer APUs, the setup was also used a bit in laptops. Not sure if it was the case with this one specifically but there were a number of HP and possibly Dell pcs with this setup. It doesn't work particularly well on the HP I have though, and the gpu in that one doesn't even have display outputs on it and isn't any faster than the iGPU on it's own so it only really helps in the handful of apps where crossfire actually works.

    I bought a Radeon R7 250 2GB GDDR3 (OEM) and am actually quite happy with it. Considering it's probably one of the cheapest used GPUs. Paired with a Phenom II X4 955 (95W) and 2x2GB DDR2-800, I'm able to play Hollow Knight maxed out (which was my goal), Wayward (secondary objective) Mass Effect 2, Dead Space, C&C3, Lego Lord of the Rings, Batman, and Indiana Jones, Fable 3. Lots of PS3/360 era PC games. Along with a whole mess of other indie games.
    I overpaid for it due to the seller listing it as GDDR5, which doesn't exist for this 2GB model. But I've seen them going for like $12. I also have it in a PCIe v1.1 slot.

      Hey terra i have a question Do you think you could comfortably play Osu! With that setup you mentioned above? Min requirements for Osu! ( A dope rhythm game btw) is 1ghz cpu with 512mb ram and 1gb gpu, My current setup was HWiD banned so im thinking of making a cheap build to play again after being false banned. I really hope you see this man 🎉🎉

    The Z240 in question is an S eF eF one, worth a note. The E3-1240 v5 is roughly a Core i7-6700, in case someone isn't sure.

    I believe the r7 and similar cards are oem version of the HD series. I think the closest is the hd 7770. They're both based on the Cape Verde GPU. I like to look at passmarks video card benchmark comparison website. They give the following scores to these cards:
    R7 450: 1935
    Hd 7770: 2172
    Hd 7790: 3090 (Xbox one)
    Quadro k2200: 3545
    Hope that information is useful somehow.

    I'm using an old Acer slimline with an Athlon xp4400 that came with Vista. I upgraded it to Windows 7 just because a lot of stuff wouldn't work. I kept all of my really old PC games so I use it to play those. Like Age of Empires II and Starcraft and stuff. I have Elder Scrolls Oblivion too that works okay. I have an old Radeon HD4600 in it. It's probably even worse than the GPU in this video, but it can play the old games of it's time okay. Instead of emulation, I just play the actual old PC games. Surprisingly, the computer can still do normal office tasks and TH-cam and web surfing with no problems.

    The R7 450 smelled like a Cape Verde GPU - tech powerup confirmed that. The card will play e-sports titles just fine, but you may want to drop the resolution to 720 in more recent titles. Fortnite in performance mode should run ok at 1080p, better at 900p.

      What specs do you have?

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't have a lot of experience with running emulators on top of Windows, but what I usually do is flash the Batocera operating system to an SSD. If you're not familiar it is a distribution of Linux with a focus primarily on emulation. And then remove the existing SSD in the computer and replace it with the Batocera SSD. After that you just kind of load the roms/bios, that kind of thing and it's ready to roll. How well it runs will depend on the specs and whatnot.

    • @liamjones2131
      @liamjones2131 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LowcastleTech That is exactly what I did do. My only downside is that it doesn't like to run any games that feature 3D. Though, to be fair, it is a pretty old laptop.
