    You make everything the way my mom does. I come to your channel to get the measurements cuz a trini mom will just say; put some of this, and some of this, and some of that, ...🤣 I’m like mom how much is some??😩. Ole school trini moms don’t use measuring spoons/cups, she said you just feel it in your spirit when it’s enough 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣

      So true and she was correct our great cooking is felt in your bones. We trini cooks are our own greatest critics. We know when our food is great and when its not😄🙏🏾we can truly just feel it. I'm Loving yuh mom.

    Hi Natasha.. i love love red beans/pink beans peleau also, i would always choose that over the traditional pigeon peas. People just need to try new things instead of criticizing that its not "traditional"

      Ppl can't help but criticize, it makes them forget their own insecurities and sometimes it's all they know. You can tell the ppl who grew up in a nurturing, loving environment and those who didn't.
      I was taught if yuh have nothing good to say say nothing. You don't need to hurt ppl or cause strife but that was back in a world where we cared about others.

    My mother used to add black eyed peas eveytime she made it and I remember as a child growing up that was the meal she made when we used to go to the beach with family and friends. My mother has passed on 9 years now. Then I used to help my father make pelau and sometimes he used to make it on his own. He also passed on. I miss my parents home cooked meals. I visit your channel here and look at the videos for guidance on things I don't know 💞. I use pumpkin in my pelau

    U can put any kind of peas in pelau n it still taste great.

    Why are people so petty? You can use the peas you like, a person may not like pigeon peas but like black beans or kidney beans, nothing is wrong with that. Heck! If you don't like peas nor beans leave them out.

    Looks good, in my opinion pigeon peas tastes the best in pelau but I have eaten it with red beans and it was delicious.

    I realize some people cook the pelau with the cover on and some cover off. I wonder what difference that makes?

    I tried this today, followed everything but the Golden Ray as we don't have that hear in London, UK. It came out good, thank you. Although I always see you brown sugar in your videos this is an area I fail to be successful in no matter how many times I try now. The sugar just turns hard like toffee apple and sticks to the bottom of the pot instead of the chicken, I have no idea where I'm going wrong but it's annoying now and I feel to give up. Any tips or ideas on what the issue could be?

      That used to happen to me too. Keep an eye on it. Turn up the heat and when one part melt and dark brown, turn the pot and repeat the process. I have bad luck when I don’t use oil, I use a bit of oil.

      That's not a sauce it's the water from marinating the chicken with addational water.

    I will go for the pigeon peas. Nice recipe. You may want to recommend substitute ingredients for the benefit of you non-trini viewers. As an example, what would you use in place of 'golden Ray' or 'badanya' (sorry about the spelling.) Although I'm Trini by birth, I've never heard chado beni called by that name, until I asked you.

      +june parr ok no problem, you can use cilantro or flat leaf Italian parsley in place of the bandanya[ shandon beni] and for the golden ray a piece of salted butter although it wont give the same flavor.
