  • Hey guys I just wanted to share this Tutorial on how to make my Chicken Pelau with You guys. As always the steps are very easy to follow and you really don’t need any kitchen experience to be able to pull this off. If you enjoyed this video don’t forget to subscribe and share with your other foodie friends so they can have a go at it as well. Thanks for the love and support on my previous videos and I will see you again soon in my next one :)
    Ingredients List
    -------------------
1kg Chicken of choice (used chicken thighs chopped- I said Drumsticks in the video that was an error)
    1 Tsp Salt
    1 Tsp Sazon
    1 Small Seasoning cube
    1/2 Tsp Adobo
    1/2 Medium Onion
    2 Scotch bonnet pepper
1 broad leaf thyme (optional if you don’t have)
    1 tsp black pepper
1 Can coconut milk - (the coconut milk in the Can was chilled hence why the cream separated at the top and the liquid was at the bottom)
    1 medium onion chopped
    2 Tbs Oil
    2Tbs Brown Sugar
    2 Spring onions
    3 Sprigs Thyme
    3 Cups long grain rice
1 heaping tbs my homemade green seasoning

This looks exactly like the rice and peas we make in Cabo Verde, Africa. This just further confirms that we are all one people, separated only by the destination of the ship our ancestors were aboard.

🇸🇷It’s amazing to see our ancestors’ influence on our cooking. Many carribean, african and south american are similar because of that. My country also has a similar dish to pelau, but ours is called moksi alesi. We also use de peas, peppers, cocunut milk and of course a bouillon to cook the rice in but have some different ingredients mixed in it. We use, for instance dried fish or smoked chicken and other vegetables. We like some marinated chicken out of the oven and plantains with it (and maybe a salad)🇸🇷

It's not the same. Jamaicans don't brown the sugar and ads all the ingredients. Theirs come out white, other Caribbean people own com out brown.

    • @gettygets872
      @gettygets872 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Life Choices , yes you’re right. We don’t cook pelau. Generally speaking Jamaicans don’t use sugar in our food. It’s the sugar that contributes to the darkness of the pelau. Jamaicans make “all in one” with many things: ackee, shrimp, callaloo, mackerel, saltfish etc. etc. but it’s not a staple. It’s one of those things we cook when we’re tired and can’t be bothered to cook anything big. Or when there’s not much food left in the kitchen and we do a quick one pot meal.
