The MCU needs to take some notes from 97 and the comics to do Cyclops justice in the upcoming movies and fully redeem him. Cyclops isn't just the most underrated of the X men he's the most underrated hero in marvel. Scott can use his concussive blasts not just to move around and slow down his fall, he can also do captain America level ricochet shots that could take down dozens of guys in one shot. His blasts can also split mountains in half and cut throw Tsunami's. I'd like to see future X men stories go into Cyclops Superior DNA and the source of his power and have him live up to his full potential .
Something few people know about Scott NOT mentioned in the video is that his optic blasts are uncontrollable due to minor brain damage he sustained when he parachuted out of the plane and crashed into the earth, hitting his head.
🔥🔥🔥🔥 an origin story on not only one of my Top 5 X-Men but one of my top 5 Marvel characters! Keep going with your content Variant! The origin that has Scott hitting his head when landing from the burning deployed parachute, is in my opinion the best overall origin.
@@variant appreciate the response. I would like to thank the whole Variant team, for continuing to provide subscribers/supporters with quality content! Thank you!
When I was young I think I remember an interview in wizard where the x-men writer said that Cyclops is the best Superhero in the Marvel universe because that's what he lives for, to be the very best.
Cyclops wasn’t my favorite character when I was a kid. Like so many I was introduced to comic book characters through movies and tv shows in the 2000’s. Wolverine was my favorite from the team but I always respected Cyclops as the leader of the team and I’m glad he’s getting more respect.
The upper limits of Cyclops powers are still unknown but his versatility using his powers is better than most Superheroes which even with 97 we still haven't seen the best he can do
Can't believe that Cyclops was the one who helped Professor Charles Xavier in forming the X-men and was the very first member of the team. What would have happened if it was someone like Hank McCoy's Beast instead of him?
Cyclops is one my favorite members of the X-Men because of his determination and leadership prowess. I need to read all of Scott's journeys in the X-Men comics. X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Giant Sized X-Men, X-Factor, New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, House of X, Powers of X, and Fall of X. And of course, some of the best X-Men stories: Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, Fate of the Phoenix, Brood Saga, God Loves Man Kills, Asgardian Wars, Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, Operation Zero Tolerance, Evolutionary War, House of M Decimation, Deadly Genesis, Messiah Complex, Necrosha Second Coming, Messiah War, Curse of the Mutants, Schism, X-Men Revolution (Marvel NOW line).
I have a theory about Cyclops. He should be able to be invulnerable like Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, when he uses his powers. Peak optic blast can obliterate a whole sentinel. That amount of force will need a abnormal amount of stability to not have Scotts head fly off his shoulders.
I read somewhere that he is unable to turn his optic blast on and off at will because upon landing from the crash he had ended up hitting his head in the part responsible for controlling it
Been following Variant Comics for a while, SUPER SURPRISED you guys haven't done a origins of cyclops before.....BUT IM SUPER GLAD ITS NOW, X-MEN 97 is AWESOME!!!
I was hoping you would dive deeper into his special ability and how is optic blasts are concussive energy and not heat based.. and other skills... or why he can't control them.
some things to note -scott cant control his optic blasts due to the brain injury he sustained in the plane crash -in many versions of his backstory, him and alex are separated immediately. they dont spend any time together at the orphanage (from my understanding he usually spends some time in a coma after the crash, & when he wakes up alex has already been adopted and scott is told that alex died in the crash) -also usually scott spends more time living with jack winters before the professor tracks him down, in which jack winters makes him do crimes or whatever during that time -also this wasn't made super clear in this video, but mr. sinister is some type of authority figure (like doctor or director or both lol, in disguise) at the orphanage in omaha were scott was kept, he is also scott's friend nate -mr sinister was obsessed with scotts mutant genetics (i dont really know why lol) so he purposely kept him isolated (by telling him alex was dead and killing the bogarts, he also gets rid of dr. hanover) -something in general that wasn't mentioned, but scott doesn't remember most of his childhood before the crash bc of the brain injury -one last backstory tidbit, he was born and grew up in anchorage, alaska, and the orphanage was in omaha, nebraska. this iteration of his backstory is not the best imo, it covers the main points but oversimplifies things. if u actually care about the character then i'd so some more research
I just binge watched episodes 1 up to Tolerance Is Extinction Part 3 with this new X-Men '97 and honestly, I haven't been this hype and satisfied with the X-Men franchise in a really long time since the 90's. Despite the cinema success of the movies for the past few decades I just was never really feeling the live action movie format or depictions of some of the characters. They freaking nailed it with the cartoon and Cyclops is back to being a boss instead of a goofy pushover. I hope in new episodes we get other staples to the series but I won't name them or spoil it for others that haven't watched it yet. 😀
Good to see that Variant has finally made a history of Cyclops video, but surprisingly X-Men ‘97 does it’s own thing being a great follow up to the original hit animated series
Thanks for this cyclops feature.. he really needs to get his just due.. but the real hero is Marvel Move.. i am soo excited to hear about this. I am going to download it right now
He can ricochet his beams like Cap does his shield letting him shoot around corners or bank off of things to strike from odd angles or knock out several enemies at once. He also plays pool to practice sometimes.
I'm praying they do him right in the MCU. I have such a huge personal connection, I have a rare genetic eye disorder (mutated gene lol) that cause severe pain, light sensitivity, and eye pressure, my cornea is wrong shape as well and takes in more light. So, some days im fine, most days I have to wear sunglasses even inside, and some days im blind in pain. Was like that since 5 and Cyclops (and daredevil some) inspired me as a kid and started martial arts even training on blind days. The character deservs more than to be just a love triangle plot and then pushed aside when thats over. Also Great video...I used it to explain to my son about Cyclops. We are currently watching movies in order for his first time, now that he is old enough to see the Deadpool Movies (barring a few scenes)
One thing I don’t get is some heroes without super strength powers have weapons like Psylocke and Deadpool. Gambit has a staff and Wolverine claws but Cyclops can only shoot but is good at martial arts. Should he not train with some weapon also as a backup as he can be overwhelmed at any given time.
Which actor do you think did a great job in portraying Cyclops between James Marsden and Tye Sheridan? Which actor do you think should play him in the MCU version of the X-men after Avengers Secret Wars?
Good video. But it's definitely not pronounced as the 'Shire.' That's a different franchise. - Shiar= (Shee- are) There are only 100 examples in media of this being pronounced including X-Men 97
Can you do history of Cyclone, Rhino, Sandman, Chameleon, Scorpion and the Human Fly along with Kurt Connors the Lizard. Also can you do the history of the Flash Villains like Turtle, Magenta, Cobalt Blue, Mirror Master and Top?
Does anyone know if the comics he mentioned are good to start off with. Im kind of new to comics and have stuck with mostly one off storylines because i have no idea where to start with dc or marvel but i would obviously like to
Sentinel: "Surrender, mutant"
Cyclops: "Of course... not!"
"Every now and then, Summers, I remember why you're still in charge."
- Wolverine, Astoshing X-Men V3, #8.
“Rip its guts out, Logan.” - Cyclops (Astonishing X-Men)
they gave cyclops the respect he needed, what a badass

Cyclops is the mutant counterpart to Captain America. Both highly skilled natural leaders that you don’t want to underestimate!
NEVER EVER EVEN okay @esaiasjones1635.
Interesting never thought of that.
@@ReginaldTate-le6fe cry about it
I always felt that way
They made Cyclops an absolute badass in the show! Really did him Justice!
Showing that you can have great form of X-Men media that doesn't just shine the spotlight on Wolverine exclusively.
@@tkcritic7368exactly, the x men as a whole is jam packed with amazing characters powers and back stories
@@tkcritic7368 IT SOOO BAD. My country think X man is his name
Took y’all 20 years, 15 movies and 4 animated shows to finally realize cyclops is him ?
……..yes
Nah,I liked him since x-men evolution, that was my first introduction with x-men,then I saw live action and got disappointed...
The Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman effect
One of the most underrated characters of all time.
Cyclops is one of the coolest looking super hero in all the DC and Marvel hands down.
They finally gave my boy the shine he deserves
We gotta give cyclops his flowers
"Give them the forecast."
Cyclops best moment was hyping up Storm 😂😂

Most definitely! Cyclops is that guy
He's been able to use his optic blasts to execute what's called "banked shots" and STILL hit his target, even if the latter has superhuman speed
Something few people know about Scott NOT mentioned in the video is that his optic blasts are uncontrollable due to minor brain damage he sustained when he parachuted out of the plane and crashed into the earth, hitting his head.
Finally , I can finally get some X-Men Content from my favorite TH-cam Channel
I could only that in the Rock’s voice. “FINALLY….” 😂

He can adjust his beams to incinerate people, or just push them.

Martial artist and energy resistance.

As a marvel fan the X-Men movies made Cyclops a depressed character and I know because as a true marvel fan I know that Cyclops is a badass
Marvel versus capcom optic blast he’s a dope game character his combos are insane bet they took inspiration from that
Why did xavier look like minecraft steve

That's how we've always heard it in the show. Had that same question as soon as I heard it.
