I saw Jeremiah Johnson in 1972 while I was in college. I loved and still love that movie. The plot, the acting, the scenery-spectacular. I’ve enjoyed many of Robert Redford’s excellent performances, but Jeremiah Johnson will always be my favorite.
You can’t go wrong picking any of Redford’s movies. I just wish he and Paul Newman had made one more movie. One of the best lines in “Jeremiah Johnson” is when Will Geer (fantastic role as Redford’s mentor) is trying to help Redford get close to an elk herd. Geer tells Redford to walk behind his horses to get close. Redford says that the elk will see him but Geer says, “Elk can’t count”. Great dialogue between the two!
It's hard to pick a favourite movie from Redford as he made to many, great actor in almost every movie from his first film War Hunt back in 1961 seriously good looking he had a magnetism about him.
You forgot the Reford defining role from the movie The Candidate. My list: 1. The Candidate 2. Three days of the condor 3. All the president's man 4. The Great Gatsby 5. Brubaker 6. Jeremiah Johnson 7. Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid 8. The Great Waldo Pepper 9. Havana 10. The Sting 11. The Natural 12. Barefoot in the Park The last great Redford movie (as an actor) was Havana. He still has other wonderful roles after that.
'All is lost' may not have been a huge money maker but it was phenomenally well acted and it was the perfect example of how only the very best actors can run a film completely on their own. It was criminally overlooked by the Oscars.
Redford is a great actor, but also a tremendous director. With the acting, I admire Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men, and with the directing I rate Quiz Show very highly. Interestingly, Redford shares with Eastwood the distinction of being an Oscar winning director while being inexcusably overlooked for a best actor award.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Sting, Out of Africa, All the President's Men and Spy Game are easily 5 of the 100 greatest films of all time. The Oscars is wrong to have overlooked his cinema contributions. Robert Redford is one of the 5 greatest actors of all time.
I wouldn't have passed over "The Great Waldo Pepper" & "The Candidate": two very influential films with very different purposes. Also, you should have mentioned 'Ordinary People' for it is truly a Redford film.
Robert Redford fans should check out "All Is Lost". It's one of those lost at sea movies, this time with the protagonist being an old man. I really enjoyed it.
I know it's not a great film, but I wish that Barefoot In The Park could have made it as an honorable mention. It's just an unpretentious enjoyable film.
How about "The way we were" with Barbara Streisand? I love "Out of Africa", I was born and raised in Denmark, and when I was growing up Karen Blixen was thought of as an older eccentric woman. Later on I read the book the movie was based on, changed my mind about her, she was quite adventoures, I have tried to find out as much as possible about Denys Finch Hatton, someone wrote a biography about him, but I don't think it is available anymore.
All good, but I might wedge in 1972's "The Candidate" as one of his very best efforts; an excellent performance by RR and costars as well as one of the better political parodies - P.S. political movies don't often do well at the box office
All on the list are great .. but one that I truly loved was his performance in "Brubaker" and his direction of "A River Runs Through It" along with his great narration and "Ordinary People." Also loved his small role in "A Bridge Too Far."
I'd take Brubaker over The Sting any day of the week. The likely reason A Bridge Too Far didn't make it on the list is due to the short time his character had on the screen. The movie after all centered around the 1st British Airborne at Arnhem.
Top 5 Robert Redford films: 1. The Sting; 2 Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid; 3. All the President's Men; 4. Jeremiah Johnson; 5. Three Das of the Condor...
Spy Games is great, overlooked, and should be ranked higher. At least some people might watch it after seeing this. Easily in my top five Robert Redford movies.
My only problem with The Chase is I thought Redford should have been the Sheriff and Brando the escaped prisoner. Frankly, I couldn't see why townsfolk would be afraid of Redford's return. Now Brando!!!
Before I watched this 5 movies came immediately to mind .... The Sting, 3 Days of the Condor, Butch Cassidy, Brubaker and All The Presidents Men (in that order). I didn't think of The Chase but it would have slotted into 4th place. So, other than leaving out Brubaker I think you did a fine job.
I'll agree with your Top 6, maybe not in that same order. As for the other 4, I don't agree with those at all. I'd add "Downhill Racer", "The Candidate", and "The Horse Whisperer". As for a 10th one, I don't know.
1' the sting , 2' butch Cassidy & the sundance kid 3' 3' days of the condor , 4' all the president's men 5' spy games , 6' the chase 7' jeramiya Johnson , 8' the bridge to far
I think that he was miscast in "Indecent Proposal". It didn't seem (in my opinion) to fit his image or style. Ironically, Warren Beatty was first offered the part. And would have been a much better fit.
I still have a disc "raindrops keep falling on my head " from Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, because I loved and still love the song (like all Burt Bacarach's songs) The cover was a picture from the film with Paul Newman, a beautiful lady (Catharine Ross) and a guy who I did not know. In 1969 I was very young and went rarely to go and see any film. I knew the actors only by tv. Only in 1972 I " met " for the first time Robert Redford , not on the screen , but through a paper's deep description of the film The Candidate going to come out in Italy. I remember very well that I was very impressed and thought " this actor will have a great career " . In 1972 he reminded me so much , somehow, the late Robert Kennedy assasinated only 3 years before and whose life and death impressed me very much , much more than the one of his brother John even if I still remember what I was doing on 22nd november 1963 being only a baby. From the Candidate I began to follow RR and, only as an adult, I discovered , with great surprise ( and would say happyness) that " the guy on the picture " was Robert Redford, and with satisfaction the film gave , and was going to give him through generations, the fame. Fame well deserved along 65 years activity as an actor, as a director, as a humble human being involved in the environment preservation , and a deep analysis of contemporary society. Bravo Bob ! Sorry for my poor english.
Robert Redford top 10 10-Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here 09-Brubaker 08-A Bridge Too Far 07-The Natural 06-Captain America: The Winter Soldier 05-Spy Game 04-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 03-The Sting 02-Three Days of the Condor 01-Legal Eagles
Il etait bouleversant dans "propriété interdite " au côté d'un Nathalie Wood au regard de braise décuplé par un charme ravageur............et brûlant !
They're still debating MJ Kobe 🤔 so thinking of Brad and the Spy game (2001) I was wondering what to think of all this as it's not like siblings from the same tree....am I right?😊
The Candidate, The Great Waldo Pepper, Electric Horseman, Barefoot in the Park, Even the Way we were??? Your choices here made me think of unsubscribing. Wow missed the mark.

Great dialogue between the two!
The Way We Were Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford ❤️❤️❤️❤️
yeah a bit soppy...but better than sneakers ...
Yes how could that masterpiece not make a RR top ten?
Very surprised that wasn't in the final 10.
I hated the persona played by Straisandso it spoiled my pleasure !
Jerimiah Johnson is hands down his best movie, The Natural is #2.
It's hard to pick a favourite movie from Redford as he made to many, great actor in almost every movie from his first film War Hunt back in 1961 seriously good looking he had a magnetism about him.
Up close and personal, Indecent proposal, The horse whisperer, Barefoot in the park, Captain America 2...
The Candidate and Condor are my favs.
You forgot the Reford defining role from the movie The Candidate.
My list:
1. The Candidate
2. Three days of the condor
3. All the president's man
4. The Great Gatsby
5. Brubaker
6. Jeremiah Johnson
7. Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid
8. The Great Waldo Pepper
9. Havana
10. The Sting
11. The Natural
12. Barefoot in the Park

SPY GAME
Tell Them Willie Boy Was Here

Always love his acting @ Brubaker..
Robert Redford's spectacular movie..
😭😭😭
❤️❤️❤️
💪💪💪
Never forget..
👊👊👊
Yes, me too, I'm surprised it isn't even mentioned!
He never won an Oscar? That is just not right. He should have won many.
He won in 1981 for Ordinary People movie
I love “Barefoot In The Park” he was so handsome in that movie 😍
Downhill Racer and This Property Is Condemned are also beautiful films
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Sting, Out of Africa, All the President's Men and Spy Game are easily 5 of the 100 greatest films of all time.
The Oscars is wrong to have overlooked his cinema contributions.
Robert Redford is one of the 5 greatest actors of all time.
The "oscars" are a mishmash and so noreal depiction of who, whichone are the best, for a given movie !

👌
I wouldn't have passed over "The Great Waldo Pepper" & "The Candidate": two very influential films with very different purposes. Also, you should have mentioned 'Ordinary People' for it is truly a Redford film.
Barefoot in the park was a wonderful movie.
Honorable Mentions: "The Last Castle" and "Brubaker".
yeah...brubaker is on my top 10
I agree with your top two. Sting and Butch Cassidy are two of the best movies of all time.
J.Johnson,a great
Western in my book
Excellent list. I wouldn't change a thing.
Robert Redford fans should check out "All Is Lost". It's one of those lost at sea movies, this time with the protagonist being an old man. I really enjoyed it.
My 2 favorite is The Way We were and Out of Africa. Director favorite is A River Runs through it and Ordinary People.
Jeremiah Johnson is still my favorite.
Loved him in the Last Castle.
Some good choices. My favorite movie all time is Havana, which Redford is the lead, and one of his best performances.
Honorable Mention: " Brubaker" and " The Great Gatsby" 👍👍
I know it's not a great film, but I wish that Barefoot In The Park could have made it as an honorable mention. It's just an unpretentious enjoyable film.
No BAREFOOT IN THE PARK or THE WAY WE WERE?
PA-lease!
How about "The way we were" with Barbara Streisand? I love "Out of Africa", I was born and raised in Denmark, and when I was growing up Karen Blixen was thought of as an older eccentric woman. Thank you for including Sneakers. Such a fun movie - remember the "PASSPORT" scene
All good, but I might wedge in 1972's "The Candidate" as one of his very best efforts; an excellent performance by RR and costars as well as one of the better political parodies - P.S. political movies don't often do well at the box office
The Natural And The Sting ,,All The Presidents Men are His best Works BY FAR!!
Only Redford ❤❤❤❤❤❤
All on the list are great .. but one that I truly loved was his performance in "Brubaker" and his direction of "A River Runs Through It" along with his great narration and "Ordinary People." Also loved his small role in "A Bridge Too Far."
He plays Julian Cook in a Bridge too far. Totally true and completely courageous.
I'd take Brubaker over The Sting any day of the week. The likely reason A Bridge Too Far didn't make it on the list is due to the short time his character had on the screen. The movie after all centered around the 1st British Airborne at Arnhem.
The fake manufactured Zapruder Film is #1 no doubt about it! She was great pretending to get her head blown off! Almost seemed real didn't it?
Ordinary people his best one as a director ! Great role by the late Canadian actor Sutherland !
Totally agree
He never has won an acting Oscar but won for best director for Ordinary People.

"Brubaker" is probably Redford's best screen performance.
The Hot Rock. A fun movie with great dialogue and cast. Just saying.
My maternal grandfather was born and raised in Denmark. My mom and i really enjoyed Out of Africa and Streep's Danish accent.
My pick for his No. 1 movie is "Havana".
Where is The Electric Horseman ?
With that incredible suit made by the great Nudie Cohn. Unforgettable!
Awesome list 👌
Last castle was a good movie
Indecent Proposal most beautiful movie
Havana ❤ My 1. Thanks.
the way we were... also wonderful movie~

3' 3' days of the condor , 4' all the president's men
5' spy games ,
6' the chase
7' jeramiya Johnson ,
8' the bridge to far
Downhill Racer, The Candidate, Electric Horseman all belong before 10-7!
I think that he was miscast in "Indecent Proposal". It didn't seem (in my opinion) to fit his image or style. Ironically, Warren Beatty was first offered the part. And would have been a much better fit.
The Way We Were. The Great Waldo Pepper.
I am a huge RR fan, but am unaware of most of these movies.
?????????????????????????????
I myself would put Three Days of the Condore at number 2.
I still have a disc "raindrops keep falling on my head " from Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, because I loved and still love the song (like all Burt Bacarach's songs)
The cover was a picture from the film with Paul Newman, a beautiful lady (Catharine Ross) and a guy who I did not know.

They're still debating MJ Kobe 🤔 so thinking of Brad and the Spy game (2001) I was wondering what to think of all this as it's not like siblings from the same tree....am I right?😊
No. 1 should be Jeremiah Johnson. Butch C, no. 2.

Lions For Lambs.
Good luck
Barefoot In The Park❤

Brubaker
Although only the narrator in the movie. I love A River Runs Through it.
I like movies❤❤
Nice 👍
The Candidate, The Great Waldo Pepper, Electric Horseman, Barefoot in the Park, Even the Way we were??? Your choices here made me think of unsubscribing. Wow missed the mark.
I liked the hooker movie also
Indecent Proposal
"Hooker movie"???
The Natural seemed very 'unnatural' to me. I love baseball, but hated the movie.
Seems youve never heard of,,the last castle,,
Of course I did, I simply didn't put it in the list 😉
Awesome list 👌
Last castle was also a good movie
Yep, it certainly was 👍

NO OTHER MODE OF EXPRESSION THAN THOSE OF A KINDERGARTEN KID WITH ALL THESE HEARTS INSTEAD OF TRYING TO WRITE SOMETHING?
