- In this video, we will rank and explore Kevin Costner's 10 greatest movies. There was a period during the late eighties and early nineties where you’d be hard pushed to find a bigger star in Hollywood than Kevin Costner. And that’s because his movies always so reliably drew large audiences towards cinemas to see them. We’re talking about hits like The Untouchables, Field of Dreams, The Bodyguard, or Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves here. True mega hits back in their day.
But it wasn’t just on screen where Kevin Costner knew how to deliver a hit. No, he could also do the same behind the camera too. And this was evident after he directed his first movie in 1990. Dances With Wolves. Hell, such a big hit would that one be, it would earn him an Academy Award for best director, the first and only time he has received this honour. So because of that, as the years have gone on Kevin Costner has split his time between being an actor and a director, sometimes doing both at once, something his recent Horizon: An American Saga series has shown he remains capable of.
Yes, even now as he approaches his seventies, he’s still one of the most in demand names out there because he has such a wide range of talents and can utilise these so well. Even television has been infiltrated by his skills in recent years as it’s over there he’s created a whole new franchise for himself in the form of TV series Yellowstone, one of the biggest TV hits of the decade.

It was love at first sight, when I saw him for the first time in Silverado (1985), after which I eagerly awaited the release of each of his subsequent films. Many critics were quite taken aback when "Dances with Wolves" (1990) won a number of awards. I guess they had somehow pegged this actor as some sort of "lightweight." As a visual artist myself, I admire Mr. Costner for pursuing projects he believed in---not what was currently "fashionable" to the critics. I'm glad he has mostly chosen projects that worked well for him.
Dances with Wolves is my one of the all time favourite film. Fictional yet so close to logic. Costner has directed this movie with utmost sensitivity.
It's a matter of great pleasure to me to have received a communication from favourite star . I have seen Dances with wolves many times . The protagonist , Lt John Dunbar you really lived that..an officer torn between his official loyalty against being human/righteous. I commend you for making such a memorable film.

Revenge (theatrical cut) is one of my favorite films. Costner and Madeleine Stowe both looked so beautiful. Great chemistry too. Anthony Quinn is as charismatic as ever.

'Revenge' is highly underrated.

Silverado; Revenge; A Perfect World; Wyatt Earp; No way Out; OPEN RANGE; DANCES WITH WOLVES; The Highwaymen; Message in a Bottle and Let Him Go. The Two movies in uppercase are masterpieces!
Dances with Wolves (extended edition only) is, for me, not only Costners' best ever film, but for me, the 3rd or 4th best Western of all time behind Seven Samurai, The Good The Bad & The Ugly & on par with Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.
It is just the perfect blend beauty, ugliness, and romance. Romance in the obvious way, but more so with the landscape and the way we as people live in it.
I don't think I've ever heard a soundtrack better either. Sure, there are many at the very top of the list of masterpiece soundtracks, but this is as good as any that came before or after.
I would put Open Range & No Way Out higher in this list myself.
I think The Bodyguard should have been in the top 10.
what about revenge
I for one, think that even though it was a financial and critical bomb (though I couldn't truly understand why), is that this list should've included the 1995 post-apocalyptic film, "Waterworld", which Kostner starred in a world where melted polar ice caps have flooded the planet. Because I saw the clips and found it an interesting story scenario.

Sorry , but my favorite is Robin Hood , Prince of Thieves , with Freeman , Rickman , and Connery . There are some VERY funny lines in that movie and Rickman is AWESOME !!!

Bull Durham is not only my favorite Kevin Costner movie, but I think his performance is one of the best ever in any movie. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like a lot of his movies... I loved Thirteen Days - but in spite of Costner, not because of him....

I think Revenge is Costner's best movie. And I thought Sean Young was the Secretary of the Navy's mistress, not his wife. I'm also probably a bigger fan of Bull Durham than I am of Field of Dreams.

The reason dances with Wolves has such a low score (considering the great film it is,) is because so many American critics consider it to be unpatriotic 😂
If that be so, it's an injustice to such a great film and hard work put in by Costner.
Unfortunately, that is very true.
Many critics slated it for so-called patriotic reasons.
It won 5 Oscars, and rightly so. It deserved more, but 5 is a great haul and reflective of the standard of film making that it was.
Would love to watch some of his movies…are there any free?

Dances with Wolves is my all time favourite movie ever. Loved Kevin in Revenge, Mr Brooks (he’s a brilliant baddie) and The Highwaymen. Too many great ones to mention. ❤️
