@@hihatjas9477 Not true. They lost to the Oilers in 1978 in a playoff game. They lost to the Chargers in 1981 in the OT game. They lost to the Seahawks in a 1983 playoff game at the Orange Bowl. The only thing that lines up as a curse is the fight song that they never paid for.
I remember the announcer on the radio saying, it didn't matter who played in the Superbowl, because this game between Miami and Oakland was going to be the Superbowl... It was a great game, but i was sad that I was on the losing end that day..
What about Cliff Branch diving catch that he ran in for a TD to take the lead? The ball was clearly trapped. By the way, back then what you refer to wasn't a call. Then it was called "clipping" & it wasn't. It was a side block. In big games back then, the refs didn't call borderline penelties. They let the teams play. Unfortunately unlike today.
Back in the day the Dolphins couldn't beat the Raiders in Oakland and a teams better record didn't determine which team would be given the home field. Miami would've gone to their fourth straight Super Bowl. Broke my heart...
Instead, this ended up being their absolute last best chance to ever win since. 50 years of barely having a chance, and getting further and further away from that chance.
@roland7584 hey, it's the Christmas season. No need to rub it in.
They've been cursed since they left the orange bowl.
@@hihatjas9477 Not true. They lost to the Oilers in 1978 in a playoff game. They lost to the Chargers in 1981 in the OT game. They lost to the Seahawks in a 1983 playoff game at the Orange Bowl. They lost to New England in the 1985 AFC Championship game. The Orange Bowl mystique was already dead long before 1986 when they left it. The only thing that lines up as a curse is the fight song that they never paid for.
@@roland7584 Very true about mystic in OB and Buffalo in 1993 , They had none in Postseason after 1973 , By the way , Houston stole our fight song
I remember the announcer on the radio saying, it didn't matter who played in the Superbowl, because this game between Miami and Oakland was going to be the Superbowl...
It was a great game, but i was sad that I was on the losing end that day..
RIP Raiders
RIP the Coliseum. What a great great great sports venue
💛💚🖤🩶
Wow! That was a Movie 🎥
A Raider on this team Coached me in Semi pro football. Herb MCcmath Sr .
It truly was a great game for its time.
Soooo per usual the refs turned a blind eye, on that opening kick off when there was clearly a BLOCK in the Back??!!
This is officially the greatest football game ever. I was in H.S watching 👀 this game
Back in the day the Dolphins couldn't beat the Raiders in Oakland and a teams better record didn't determine which team would be given the home field. Good thing that the Steelers had the immaculate reception in 1972, otherwise the Dolphins may have had to play the Raiders in Oakland in 1972. Had that happened, they may have not had the perfect season.
Nice block in the back on the opening kick return touchdown. Good to see the refs bad calls back then too.
Yep, that was a block in the back on the dolphins. Wasn’t called though. Kind like how the chiefs get all the calls now.
Cliff Branch trapped the td bomb from Stabler. Refs blew that one too. You can see the trap on NFL Films long version of this game.
Wow!!!
That's my true hero! It was cuz of him " John Madden" and the great fans of Oakland that I was baptized in SILVER AND BLACK! I will always be a Raider! Win or lose! But just WIN BABY!!!! This I will tell you. THE SILVER AND BLACK ATTACK WILL BE BACK! 2025 will definitely be our time!
For me, it was THE greatest game ever!
Football was FOOTBALL when we played on REAL GRASS...
OAKLAND RAIDERS FOREVER
People remember John Madden as an announcer but forget what a great coach he was.
I guess so. But not if you’re a geezer like me. (Lifelong Steelers fan but I loved the Raiders believe it or not and remember watching this game).
6:10--Charlie Smith looks like George Foreman. 😅😅😅
We all shouldn't forget Belitnekof , Snake & Madden !
As great as this game was, it's unfortunate that the two best teams were forced to play each other in this round. Whoever survived this back-and-forth, down to the wire, epic finish game was going to be running on fumes going into the AFC Championship (which gave a massive competitive advantage to Pittsburgh).
Raiders, Dolphins and Steelers were all Championship caliber teams and all in their prime or close enough to their prime in 74. Somebody was going to get the short end of the stick.
The Raiders dominated the 1970's.
