    Cardinals thrashing the Panthers in 2008 divisional round is a forgotten upset. Cardinals were 10-point underdogs on the road, 0-5 on the east coast that season, 1-4 against playoff teams in the regular season, and the Panthers were undefeated at home. Cardinals went onto to make the Super Bowl while the loss signaled the beginning of the end for Jake Delhomme and John Fox in Carolina.

    I still think the Giants beating the Pats in Super Bowl 42 is the biggest upset. Even though the Jets upset the Colts, those Jets were a great 11-3 team. That Giants team was 10-6, squeaked into the playoffs, and then beat the team that would've gone down, in many people's estimate, the best team ever.

    • @Shatamx
      @Shatamx 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

      You have to take into account how fans viewed the Jets and AFC back then. Even at that point they still didn’t take AFL teams serious. Colts were considered STACKED that year. 18 point for favorite back then is still insane even today.

      @@Shatamxthat doesn’t really change the fact that a wild card team beating an undefeated team with one of the greatest offensive teams in league history with one of the greatest defensive minds in league history in the Super Bowl is the biggest upset ever. First. It’s the Super Bowl. It’s the most important game of the season. Second the giants were under double digit underdogs in every game that playoffs in memory serves correctly. Third. It’s the superbowl. No one cares who won a league championship game unless that team wins the Super Bowl.

      @@Jrseydevil People tend to be biased, and guys who watched the Giants beat the Pats are going to say that's the biggest upset. When the Jets beat the Colts the AFC was considered similar to a minor league, it's just hard for anyone who wasnt around way back then to understand how big the Jets winning that game was. Giants beating the Pats was huge, but it's really apples and oranges here. That SB3 completely changed the entire football landscape at the time, unlike the Giants/Pats game, which was also amazing. I watched both games, two different animals. To compare it to basketball, it would be like a G league team beating the 95-96 Bulls

      @ I get your point but I gotta disagree man. Yes I completely agree with getting a different feeling/experience being around for both games. Totally valid point. It also kinda makes you biased as well. What’s to say that nostalgia isn’t weighing in on your view? What the giants did was pure magic and a much better storyline. Eli had a 23TD/20INT regular season and then becomes Superman out of no where. He out Tom Bradyed Tom brady. TC out coached the greatest coaches in nfl history. A wild card team beat the team that a lot of people still consider to be the most complete and talented and well coached and just plain old flat out best team in the history of the nfl. I’m all for nostalgia but facts are facts man

      @@Heathcoatman Agreed. There wasn't even an AFC back then. It was just the AFL, an entirely separate league considered obviously inferior until SB III. The Jets winning would be akin to the XFL champs team beating the Super Bowl champions, at least as it was perceived back then.

  • @SDChargersFreak
    @SDChargersFreak 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

    In 1979, the Chargers were the only NFL team that used hand signals from the sidelines to send in the play, trying to be innovative. The Oilers had a defensive coach named Eddie Biles who had successfully deciphered the hand signals. During the playoff game, Wade Phillips, defensive line coach at the time under his dad, Bum, watched the Chargers sideline with binoculars. He was able to relay the info to Biles before each Chargers offensive play. The Oilers basically knew what was coming every time the Chargers snapped the ball. It wasn't considered cheating because there were no rules against it, but in terms of plain football talent, the Chargers, who crushed the Steelers and Rams (both Super Bowl teams), were probably the best team in football. If they had just sent in a guy from the sidelines to the huddle with the play, like every other team at the time, the Chargers probably would have won it all that season.

    I used to watch football a lot, but I kinda left watching the sport a couple of years ago now. But I think I can still break this down a little for the top 2 at least:
    For number 2: Personally, the only reason I don’t think the Giants beating the 18-0 Pats is the biggest upset is if you look at that 2007 season, they played each other in the final regular season game, and the giants kept it close all the way through, only losing by 3, and it was high scoring, showing they can compete with the best. They were even up at halftime in that game. So I think there was a decent population of people who actually believed that they could go and win that game against the Pats and the point differential might have not been as absurd as people thought. The argument that Green Bay was the real upset is definitely one that can be made as I feel they were bigger underdogs in that game compared to the Super Bowl against New England.
    As for number 1: Statistically yes, it is the biggest upset if the 19 point underdog thing is true. However, I think it’s a sour number 1 because it was literally the game that took the Jets soul. It now has them facing a bad history as if they don’t even make the playoffs by 2029, they will have the longest playoff drought span in NFL history (19 Years). To be honest and this is coming from a former Jets fan myself. I think they really do need to discontinue. Because no matter what happens, everything that was worth seeing in the team and for the future is gone and never coming back. I know it sounds like I was a disloyal fan and maybe that is true and I just had bad feelings, even mentally watching that is, but there are so many more fun things to do in life or watch on TV than a team that will never be back standing tall.

    Really suprised the Steelers 2005 over Indianapolis wasn't on here, let alone an honorable mention. Pittsburgh barely snuck into the playoffs as the 6th Seed and were 8.5 point underdogs against a 14-2, Peyton Manning led, top seeded Indy. The two had played each other earlier that season and the result was a 26-7 Colts mauling of Pittsburgh. It deserves a spot in the Top 10.

    No NFC Divisional Game from the 2010 season? Atlanta was the #1 seed at 13-3 and had the #5 overall offense and # 5 overall defense, and had previously beaten the Packers in the regular season. Then somehow they got throttled 21-48.

    My father rooted for the giants forever. Thru the trash. So me and my older brothers, (I was 6 when the giants beat the broncos, 10 when we beat the bills) could just be happy. Kerry Collins was a tragedy, but when we beat the pats...
    ... If you're not a giants fan you will never understand what that felt like. EVERYONE on earth that watched that game (that wasn't a pats fan) was a giants fan.
    That day, everyone was rooting for my team.
    .. and then it happened again 4 years later.
    Eagle fans were rooting for the giants.
    I'm not gonna lie. I was rooting for the pats in that Philly special game. If aliens came down and threatened all life on earth unless the eagles beat them in a football game...
    ...
    I'm just so frickin' grateful my father wasn't a jet fan.

    Not at all a New York Giants fan, but their 1990 team deserves more than an honorable mention on this list. In the playoffs that season, they eliminated 2 all-time great teams in route to a Super Bowl championship: The 49ers and Bills. Some argue the 1990 49ers are the greatest team in that franchise’s history.

    In terms of “an underdog finds a level that maybe even they didn’t know they had to defeat a titan” Super Bowl 42 is the biggest upset in pro football history.
    But maybe the most “….huh?!?! Where did THAT come from?!?” upset all of all time is the Vikings over the 49ers in the ‘87 playoffs. The ‘87 49ers were a juggernaut. Number 1 offense. Number 1 defense. 13-1 over their final 14 games with the 1 loss a 2 point loss to a 12-3 Dome Patrol Saints team. Anthony Carter with a Jerry Rice impression. It was twilight zone type stuff.

    How is the Seahawks upset over the Saints just honorable mention? The Saints (11-5) were defending Super Bowl champions and had beaten the Seahawks (7-9) earlier in the season, 34-19. The Saints entered the game as 11-point road favorites (almost unheard of in the NFL) and the Seahawks for most of the week didn’t even know who the starting QB would be. There’s no way this game should be outside the top 10.

And the giants were just as much of an underdog because they were 9-7 and squeaked into the playoffs
