When they say "They don't make movies like this anymore", it's no exaggeration. This movie is close to perfection. The moralising was genuine and appropriate, not self serving, insincere and sanctimonious. Compare that with 2025, where prominent celebrities and politicians promote a narrative for the social status benefits; (and to hell with truth, decency or integrity.)
A very good spy film, well-written and acted, and some great photography! IMDB’s rating of 6.0 is far too low. Thanks for making it available to us all. (An aside, I think Robert Mitchum must have written it into his movie contracts that he had to remove his shirt in front of the camera at least once per film! And another: Ingrid Thulin, trained as a ballet dancer, has one of the most endearing accents I’ve ever heard).
A really fine piece of daytime tv melodrama. Need I say more?

Implausible but well acted, as usual, by Mitchum. I had entirely forgotten that Genevive Page was an item. A great beauty, although done no favours by her gestalt here (rank hair style etc.). Glad to see that she is still alive and hope that she is glad too.
The music is a leftover from the silent movie era, when it was impossible to synchronise the audio and video, and music was employed to tell the viewers what was happening on the screen, before the dialogue cards were shown to the audience. Now, the producers put so much effort into making a believable film and then, the music comes on!😂 It often looks like a whole brass band follows the actors on the street. 🤣 Thank goodness the theatres have been saved from the background music!! 😊
Excellent movie with excellent screenplay. After a long time I could watch a movie paced so very well, as compared to the jing-bang genre of these times. Discription is wrong…
the actors are almost always listed wrong in these movies...no Ray Milland...no Carolyn Jones...no William Bendix...you smokin' too much weed...or not enough....
Hard to follow this film, as too many plots with too many edited scenes and too many characters.
Mr Mitcham, 10:18 just the walk is Purrrrrrr
A critic said Mitchum doesn't so much act, as point his suit at people.
