Urban fighting against an endless hoard that has no sense of self preservation must have been awful. The Starfleet marines are the only force however that we see employ ground vehicles that can quickly be loaded off a dropship; that would give them an enormous advantage in the open country where they could be extremely mobile with dozens of variants of the Argo ground vehicle like the ww2 Sherman 'uglies' for which a Sherman tank existed for every occasion. Federation troops seem the worst equipped for urban fighting however, their uniforms don't even provide camo and their weapons are sub optimal. First of all, I must say that your art is always top notch, but this episode was really superb. That being said, it appears that Starfleet rediscovered the ancient lost technology of the Toyota technical and adapted it for the war.
The dominion found Betazed was much tougher to hold as the telepathy of the native people made near instant communication possible and allowed resistance units planetwide to be very effective in coordinating their forces to do as much damage as possible. It helped that old style cloaking devices allowed us to send in armed attack ships which would be effective in both picking up and dropping off operatives and in providing supplies to the resistance
Very, cool. I like how you incorporated some of the artwork from the Star Trek Adventures ttrpg. It will be useful to help give my players the feel of being in the Dominion War.
I think Remans probably would have been some of the most effective ground troops of the war. Tough, strong, nocturnal warriors with nothing to lose. They also have a huge advantage over Jem'Hadar in that they're psychic, which means the Jem'Hadar shroud ability probably wouldn't be very useful against Reman units. Some are even capable of using their psionic abilities to heal others, which means the Romulans don't really need to give them medical supplies. They can be given disruptor rifles, a few grenades, some basic body armour and thrown at the Jem'Hadar and chances are they'll probably do alright. Using them as auxiliaries was a really smart idea by the Romulans.
Great insight on the tactics and strategies used on the dominion war. Especially loved the information on body armor, it wasn't the usual glamour of using shields.

I honestly wish we saw more ground vehicles in star trek. I'm surprised there's no federation APC that has some sort of dedicated Boosted Transporter, or a field supply vehicle that is just a Replicator on wheels or anti-grav. Just having infantry battles is cheap from a budget perspective, but overall boring and rather one-note, especially considering the limited weaponry of the sides involved. We rarely see stuff like artillery, squad support weapons, or long-range sniper or marksman rifles. I also think it would be cool to see some sort of Federation personal armor that has Ablative plating integrated into it, or some sort of holo-projector gear to provide protection.
Very fun watch here! Also sort of interested - neither side really seemed to use ground vehicles at all or anything beyond small arms. were they not useful in war like this? No one uses tanks, mortars, armored units.. Or is it as most things are dealtw tih by air support, entrenched guns are capable of taking out most things with ease, and weapons are too heavy for armor to hold up against? or are those generally usedin followup waves for an extended campaign or for defense but not massively used for troops?
Yeah more so the latter. You bring armor in at the 2nd stage where you basically have to bulldoze your way through and persuade the enemy that the planet is lost.
Hey I make a small request on your last Battlespace episode but you likely didnt see it so if I may repeat myself. For future dominion war episodes is that you add in other species cause I find it hard to believe that only the federation, Klingon and later Romulan's fought the Dominion, there had to be at lest one smaller race that made small contributions to ether side.
Ferengi provided economic support. While the Son's produced White, likely in exchange for starships. And the Orions intended to be a fifth column for the invaders
Well, the Ferengi no doubt sold weapons and war materials to whoever paid them. In one episode, Quark and a cadre of Ferengi started a rescue mission to save Quark's mom, after the Dominion kidnapped her. Considering Quark's mom was dating the Grand Nagus at the time, I can see the Ferengi turning to more of an exclusive deal with the Allies after that. Other than that? Eh. I suppose the Bajoran militia may have gotten involved in some border skirmishes near the Cardassian border? That's about it, since most of the other Alpha Quadrant powers signed a nonagression pact with the Dominion early in the conflict. They specifically list the Romulans, Miradorn, and Tholians amid the neutral parties. Maybe the Gorn? They weren't listed and if they felt their territory was threatened, they're known to respond aggressively.

True but that is a deep space explorer not all ships will have such facilities. Also anti matter generation still rely on obtaining deteruim which is difficult when in a fleet
@@venomgeekmedia9886 oh definitely. Probably 90 plus percent of ships are not capableof it , the number of galaxy class or similar ships are rare . But an intrepid class for example was supposed to have 3 years worth of fuel. ( or consumable resources)

I don't understand where the energy comes from. Deuterium alone does not provide energy. It's the same reason why cars can run on hydrogen but not on water. Water is at a low state of energy (not sure what the correct English wording is).
Just a thought, how is an army numbered in the thousands take a planet? It would millions just to take some well defended islands let alone a continent much less a planet.
You didn’t a decent job trying to retcon Star Trek glaring oversights in realistic ground combat. I mean seriously, the Starfleet Marine uniform has to be the least practical combat uniform in Sci-Fi history. At least Enterprise’s MACO uniform attempted to look both military and futuristic. Budgetary constraints probably didn’t allow for more detailed, mission specific uniforms. But no helmets, personal first aid kits, night vision, nothing.
Yeah helmets aren't really a thing. In fairness it's not just trek you see it in a lot of history shows. The main characters don't wear helmets either.
When you talk about federation and landing troops I don’t see anything about the intrepid class. She has the ability to land deposit forces while given close ground support as a starship. The ability to bring type 10 phaser arrays along 47 type 6 photon torpedos close in must have been devastating for any enemy ground commander. Imagine see a frigate class star ship baring down on your position. Plus it could easily carry a company of marines equipment and more. It seems like a great assault ship.
You know, since we see them wear great jackets in later battles, I wonder if it offers a similar level of protection as the one suite one. Also, there was one thing I never understood that with replicators, why didn't Starfleet replace all of the older Type III Phaser Rifle with the Type-III Phaser Rifle and Compression Rifle we see on Enterprise-E and Voyager. Using replicators to recycle the older models for the more advance and more powerful one. I could only think of two in-universe explanations. One is due to preferences. Where commanders that prefer the older model kept them for their infantry for they offer some advantages over the newer model. I can sort of see that as possible if the weapon required less maintenance, and the Compression Rifle only had a bolt mod, which means an arguably less versatile weapon may not have a wide beam setting to take out large groups in one shot or a higher continuous fire rate to take down heavily armored targets. But there is the Type III we see Janeway use that is obviously the more durable upgrade, which means it probably requires less maintenance, and the Cropmession Rifle had a beam setting as seen in Voyager. Not to mention that the Enterprise-E had them everywhere and could give the entire crew a compression rifle, which could mean the weapon was not maintenance-intensive if they can keep that many on a Starship. The other is that the less important units or far-reaching outposts still used the older ones for Starfleet gave priority to their more important and vital ones, and to prevent the enemy from getting their hands on the more advanced versions as long as possible as they were somehow game-changers. Maybe had a higher recharge rate or more powerful per shot. But I don't see Starfleet is too callous with the lives of their people to not give everyone the best equipment they could. Especially with the technology and resources the Federation had and enjoyed using on a daily bases, and with how widespread the war is, the enemy would have gotten samples early in the war during early victories. As you can guess, neither explanation is satisfactory as stated so I am just going to assume it was a budgetary issue and the DS9 could not use the weapons used by the Voyager and TNG movie cast due to politics since Rick Burman supposedly hated DS9 and gave it minimal support.
In season 3 of the DS9 episode Civil Defense, we see a DS9 replicator replicating a phaser weapon that held everyone as hostages at the CIC. So I assume a replicator can with the required energy and material.
Antimatter??? I'm assuming you mean anti deuterium. And on long range missions they would usually try 2 find a planet with heavy water then replenish their supplies by refining it into deuterium
What would be the feasibility of employing millions of troops on each planet similar to how nations on earth keep vast amounts of soldiers in their military. There would definitely be enough infrastructure equipment and supplies to sustain a force of many million defending of worlds numbering less then 15 million. Is this because of the low population density on the average feduration world. or the lack of necessity
So you could have a large planetary defence force drawn from your population. However once the enemy has secured control of the system. And demonstrated the ability to successfully land troops on the planet. Resistance becomes pointless because you only have the troops on the planet while the attacker can concentrate far greater numbers and overwhelm the planet eventually.
If you can land a shuttle with personal on a planet you could probably land a shuttle with a range of weapons and technology designed to ruin the local environment. Mine the system then let them starve. If they surrender, refuse and use them as an example to those thinking of resisting. I think planetary sieges aren't really used properly because they would be boring AF.
Funnily enough that was a scenario I was discussing with my members. And we concluded that if strongly fortified enough the planet or citadel would be condemned to a seige.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 that's awesome, did you guys discuss planetary siege tactics such as starving a planet of solar energy and... Actually how do I become a member and where do I find these discussions?
I'm more of a Star Wars, 40k fan so I have a question. No one has tanks, power armor, walkers of any kind, personal shielding or ground transports? What happens if you have to move quickly but no one has air superiority? Do the Federation guys even get a knife?
Tanks can be deployed but generally in that 2nd wave most of their duties can be carried out by armoured shuttlecraft. Why have walkers when you have repulsor-craft. Hoppers as well as shuttles can be used for transportation. Federation marines would get a combat knife

STW, has pretty much turned the Gorn into Xenomorphs, with them implanting their young into live hosts and having them burst out of them to grow super fast
The Enterprise D has a Quantum Charge Reversal Device, which can convert deuterium into anti-deuterium-, in tiny amounts. [According to the TNG Technical Manual]
Impressive. Great video!
Oh good.
I was on the verge of withdrawal symptoms.
😆😎👍
I am suffering from withdrawal the moment the pervious episode ended
10:26 Oh, no! The Cardassians are invading Lothal! 🤣
Forget phaser rifles because, ALL FALL TO HARDBALL!!! As the Borg learned in First Contact.
30k troops to take a world, and a capital of a spacefaring species at that. Someone's taking a piss...
Like the Ferengi and the Tholians?! WTF did the Dominion have planed for them?! Lol interesting stuff
@@lynngreen7978 yes and i believe after insurrection the sona wete at war with the federation, and the federation started intercepting the white convoys and attacked the factory's, i remember whyhon telling demar to send more ships to protect the sona .( around the Breen negotiations or alliance period)
I believe the thoilians declared neutrality and just shot down who ever breached their space... like always. Might be mistaken though
Star ships don't really worry that much in the short term about Dilithium , its not a fuel its a focusing matrix for anti matter, crystals need to replaced but not frequently, the importance of it is more to do with building new ships and warp cores.
I am confused what happened To the dilithium crystals😮
Fascinating. How would the situation on Betazed have been resolved at the end of the war, do you think? At lot of bad guys dug in there.
Duterium yes but galaxy class vessels had anti matter ( generators or the ability to produce their own at need and to resupply other smaller vessels)
@@shanenolan8252 That's probably 3 years of fuel and consumables under peace time operations, not under the much faster and harder operations tempo of an active war
I don't understand where the energy comes from. Deuterium alone does not provide energy. It's the same reason why cars can run on hydrogen but not on water. Water is at a low state of energy (not sure what the correct English wording is).
What's the track that begins at around 22:33?
The Romulans had the Remans to back fill their ground troops.
Is it considered a war crime to transport enemy ground units into the vacuum of space?
yes because you give them no chance to surrender
When you talk about federation and landing troops I don’t see anything about the intrepid class. She has the ability to land deposit forces while given close ground support as a starship. The ability to bring type 10 phaser arrays along 47 type 6 photon torpedos close in must have been devastating for any enemy ground commander. Imagine see a frigate class star ship baring down on your position. Plus it could easily carry a company of marines equipment and more. It seems like a great assault ship.
Are their any tanks in Star Trek
Yeah I don't think a phaser rifle is a thing that can be replicated
In season 3 of the DS9 episode Civil Defense, we see a DS9 replicator replicating a phaser weapon that held everyone as hostages at the CIC. So I assume a replicator can with the required energy and material.
Antimatter??? I'm assuming you mean anti deuterium. And on long range missions they would usually try 2 find a planet with heavy water then replenish their supplies by refining it into deuterium
Still involves capturing a planet surface
And yet the Dominion lost....
The music is a little intense and distracting
Why do you say Kzinti that way? Ka- Zin- Tee. The Man-Kzin Wars.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 So basically kinda like air superiority?

@@venomgeekmedia9886 still seems like a big gap to me, but cheers.
Thanks for responding!
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I say make the Federation marine get some kind of energy knife. Maybe like a stun baton?
