  • HPA-Axis Dysfunction in Obesity
    Melanie Dorion, AGNP
Obesity is a multifaceted disease and requires a comprehensive approach for successful management. Diet, lifestyle, and insulin/glucose metabolism are commonly the focus of treatment. Often overlooked, however, are other factors in the obese patient's metabolism such as dysfunction in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
Elevated cortisol or abnormal cortisol patterns are often contributing factors in weight gain and/or resistant weight loss and should be addressed early in a treatment plan. This webinar will focus on exploring HPA-axis dysfunction in the obese patient and review treatment options to support successful weight loss.
    Learning Objectives
Review contributing factors in weight gain
Discuss research on HPA-axis dysfunction in obesity
Introduce therapeutic options focusing on adrenal support

intermediate fasting one of the hardest for people with predictable condition. I tried fasting many time- first 2 days the hardest, then its much either every day! But doing this torture every other days, it madness!

I've tried all forms of fasting and I wind up not being able to sleep. I don't know that I consider 8 hours of eating and 16 hours of fasting a fast I just called that time restricted feeding. But those 24 hour fast no I quickly fall into a pattern of insomnia I also think that too much fasting Raises cortisol. Isn't that what we're trying to prevent

Yeah, it’s interesting she’s a fan. I know longer fasts can heal a lot of stuff, but I’ve lost muscle and now my thyroid is acting up. I’m on keto and have increased to 30 - 40 total carbs and 3 meals/day (I used to do 2).I definitely feel less stressed
