Being an artist is the most beautiful thing I know. You had a giant caterpillar in your head and said “no, this needs to be out here in my hands so I can show it to people” and then you just did that. Incredible.
As someone who loves color-changing things and articulated things, you can imagine my raw delight at seeing this little champ. It's so adorable! Probably one of my favorite things you've made. Great job Kayak!
This is absolutely gorgeous. You captured everything about this lil guy PERFECTLY. Someone should hire you to design props I swear. Keep up the stunning work!!
Nice to see you working on other projects that don’t pertain to prehistoric animals! Amazing work as always. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next
Caterpillars only eat the type of plant that the butterfly lays it's eggs on. They can't eat anything else besides that plant (monarch caterpillars eat milk weed, ect).
I really really appreciate how you walked through the ZBrush sculpting steps! I know not many people have access to software like that or even have the time to work with it, but as an Animation student working with Blender it was really satisfying and helpful to see those extra steps. (I don't plan to make something like this, but just seeing how other people's workflow stimulates the creative part of my brain)
You should add lore to this: megalepidoptera is a genus of proto Lepidoptera that is found from the late Carboniferous to the late Permian, they are the ancestors of moths, and butterflies. A genus of them includes the first fossil of one called megalithus, the one featured in this video *AKA it’s larval form* another genus features the biggest one in this genus, megalepiro.
What a cute lil(big) guy!! You did such a phenomenal job bringing him to life! It's so awesome seeing your capabilities and skill increase with each video you post man! Keep up the amazing work!!
i think something really cool for you to recreate would be those animals that were found cuddling right before dying its known as “The saddest fossil” or “A triassic cuddle set” you could make the fossils or the animal cuddling, it would be really nice
artist youtubers are the smartest people ever. you just get whole 3d printing machines and paint to play with LOL. loved this little feller, very cute.
There's two FDM printers and a Anycubic resin printer running in the back of my office right now. That BEEP BEEP from your new Jupiter had me frantically checking my printers for an error. 🤣
You can increase the tolerances in your modelling software, so things don't fit that crazy tight. When curing, resin tends to shrink, but not uniformly, so you can't rely on that. I would also sand a bit the parts that need to slide on one another if i see it requires too much force.
Wooooo, what a gorgeous little lady!!! Look at her shine woo woo woo yeah! (no i don't know what that reaction was either, I was just really excited.) Gorgeous, good job!
The way i have to stop my fear of caterpillars for a moment just to watch this video 😭 Quite difficult to not to get goosebumps when looking at those zoomed pic but the video is sooo good not to watch sjsvsjsbske
Did I know I wanted a glorious process video for making a giant stingy caterpillar? I did not, but you delivered it anyway and that's why you are my very favorite TH-cam creator.
❤ I just recently found you (diorama Dino vid) and I really like listening to your process..I don't have 3d printer..but I diy a lot of miniatures and am obsessed with stuff like this. Thanks for sharing all these. 🎉
Epic job. As I watched I was like, maybe you need the hot water trick and clear resin would be great but I was soon silenced as you already had those in the pipeline. I might have to upgrade my Saturn to the Jupiter it looks awesome.

Conveniently forgetting the Z- brush license and a top of the range 3-D printer.
@@HO-bndk you’re only *assuming* I’ve forgotten anything. I haven’t. Idk why you’ve gotta get all uppity me for a silly uplifting comment.
@@HO-bndk nomad is only $20 to own, it’s a surprisingly powerful mobile app
@@Kayakasaurus i recently started using nomad for dinosaurs
@Kayakasaurus which 3D program do you use ?
I love how he uses natural light in his video, it makes them 999x more pretty
I love natural light. It’s a problem in winter though
As someone who loves color-changing things and articulated things, you can imagine my raw delight at seeing this little champ. It's so adorable! Probably one of my favorite things you've made. Great job Kayak!
Oh yeah that things absolutely adorable (throws slipper at it in fear) yep totally normal, ya know it kinda looks like a Shiba Inu (no it does not)-
Snom is looking a little different today...
So cute!!
Who? 😂 snom is so cute as a name
@@BlackChamomileit's a tiny ice-type caterpillar pokemon, it's super cute lol
If someone makes a toy brand on prehistoric creatures like the Dino Rider series, stuff like this would be awesome in it!
Cyberzoic is doing that w Dinos. Insects would be super cool
I agree! We need prehistoric animal toys like from dino rider!
Don't think a creature like this looks rideable.
This is just fantastic. I couldn’t believe the thumbnail wasn’t just a photo of the original caterpillar till I watched the video. Superb work!
9:35 what adorable giant little gentleman
Man I'd love a man like this. Sounds dead inside, crafty, good sense of humour, and most of all: dinosaur and bug loving
@Les GouBrandon so excited for ur character growth once u start high school
@lesgoubrandon5010 Plot twist: It just a comment 0-0
@basic6735 Unfortunately not lmao. I forgot I commented this XD

Oh hell naw no plant is safe from this.
Not even the trees

I just wrote this a few minutes ago and then saw your comment! They sound SO similar!!
Glad to see another Studson fan here 😂

He’s like the craftsman with montage editing.
Absolutely incredible! It even looks cuter than the real thing.
It would be cool to use a 3D printer to replicate some toys I had once.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT SPECIES THIS IS??
I love how good you are at this! and this is truly another amazing piece of art!
you should do the hickory horned devil caterpillar next! it's so beautiful, and some variations look like branching coral.
Your my favorite sculptor ever
Bro is the BEST sculptor ever
i think something really cool for you to recreate would be those animals that were found cuddling right before dying
its known as “The saddest fossil” or “A triassic cuddle set”
you could make the fossils or the animal cuddling, it would be really nice
That would be interesting, I sculpted a similar fossil pair on the drawer face of my diictodon diorama
along with being creative, this was oddly peaceful! thank you
the flocking blew my mind... well done!!! flocking incredible xD
It’s very fun, I made little furry anurognathus last time I used it
the amount of detail put into this is jaw dropping

lol
this caterpillar reminds me of the Pokémon “snom” and i love it so much
I really don’t mind some non dinosaur related content this was so fun to watch
That looks amazing. Such great results using 3d printing combined with old fashioned tricks for the hairs + colours.
Thank you, I’ve been wanting to take advantage of printing in transparent resin for a while, and I finally found the right project to do that
Obviously the sculpt and painting were incredible, but can I also say that the sound design/music for this was delightful as well
What a cute little friend shaped buddy!!
I love the attention to detail its so pretty
Honestly looks more real than the real one haha. Awesome video!

the way u add the hairs was amazing. truely
I’m a Gen Xer so this kind of genius doesn’t equate to making flower wreaths for our mom when we were kids, this stuff blows my mind
❤You're one very talented guy, I've never even heard of the design package you used but how you developed the body and texture... ! 10 outa 10👍👍👍

I've never seen a better 3d printed thing
i love 3d printing! if you take the supports off before curing you will get much better results
I had to double check that I actually liked it, cause I kept hitting the button throughout the video. Good job
By the way i think the caterpillar is called a Olona sp, Limacodida or the gummy caterpillar
that is gorgeous!!!
