    16:10 displays need to come back! I really miss that extra bit of monitor/display height!

    Looks like a really nice all around machine. Good specs, good port selection, and pretty darn good gaming performance for its build. I like 16:10 for retro games. If my M1 MacBook Pro could bootcamp I wouldn’t consider this. This seems like your kind of laptop Lon.

      Yeah I like this one - probably the most powerful GPU I've seen in this form factor. Usually they stick an MX150 in something like this which is better than nothing but not as good as this one!

    hi Lon. I had purchased a similar HP Envy x360 14 version but it's i7 with 1TB. I bought it from Best Buy when it went on sale for about $780. regular price is about $1,800.
    I haven't seen information on it and I was wondering if you could find something on it please.

    Kudos for the linux compatibility bit at the end. Much appreciated. Did you install it natively or dual boot?

    • @LonSeidman
      @LonSeidman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We usually just dual boot it up in live mode. The objective is to see if the latest version of Ubuntu can auto-detect the hardware.

      What's the problem? I'm considering this laptop to used it most os the time with MS Office, at least this one gives me more future proof for casual gaming than a mx350/450.

    3 cons not biggies but would probably make me pass on this one
    1-letterboxing HATE it, 2-smallish ssd at this price point 3- no inverted T on the cursor keys.
    when you say everything was detected under Linux, does that include the fingerprint scanner?

    There are a few issues with this laptop:
    1 - White keyboard and white backlighting is a pain and this is a deal-breaker for me; I really do not see the point?
    2 - Resolution is sub-par for the cost of this laptop. 2021 will be the year of QHD laptops and the Spectre X360 14 at a similar price has 3k2k OLED?
    3 - No AMD alternative?
    4 - Priced too high compared to Apple Silicon and AMD (HP Envy 15 AMD is £400 less!!!) and other Ultrabooks.
    5 - GPU not powerful enough; in most games, it is not much better than the Xe integrated graphics. It is clearly not up to anything but basic 4k rendering.
    5 - Reflective display, real pain for a "portable" device, the Spectre X360 has an anti-glare display.
    6 - No EVO branding.
    So, it is more expensive than similar spec Ultrabooks with some features like the display being a downgrade. It is clearly not a great choice if you enjoy AAA gaming and it not suitable for 4k rendering other than simple projects. For every user-case, I can find better choices, it is a jack of all trades but a master of none, so maybe for consumers that have no specific user demographic?

    • @craftedpixel
      @craftedpixel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The display is not reflective if you go with the no touchscreen version
      1080p is plenty for a 14 inch screen, 4K would be overkill and cause quick power drain.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@craftedpixel I have 4K and 1080p OLED laptops and can say that the 4K is a vastly superior experience and I would never buy an OLED 1080p again even on a 13 inch display. It could be the matrix structure of the OLED display on the 1080p Galaxy Book Pro? I will sacrifice battery life for a far superior viewing experience.

    Would be cool if you can add VR testing as part of your normal test to show what computers can handle that or not

    • @LonSeidman
      @LonSeidman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is my fault on this one - Jake actually did a VR benchmark on it and we found that it's just shy of hitting the 90fps framerate. Older VR titles will probably work ok but the more recent stuff will struggle.
