THE CROSSES GROW ON ANZIO Oh, gather 'round me, comrades; and listen while I speak Of a war, a war, a war where hell is six feet deep. Along the shore, the cannons roar. Oh how can a soldier sleep? The going's slow on Anzio. And hell is six feet deep. Praise be to God for this captured sod that rich with blood does seep. With yours and mine, like butchered swine's; and hell is six feet deep. That death awaits there's no debate; no triumph will we reap. The crosses grow on Anzio, where hell is six feet deep. . . . Audie Murphy, 1948
Audie was a famous actor in westerns and war movies, he also had severe PTSD and left the army addicted to morphine and amphetamines (painkiller and stay awake pills used in those days), 5his is as much about him fighting those enemies AFTER the war, he managed to quit drugs and his PTSD was manageable
Too bad you didn't do an official music video for that song. Maybe then you'll grasp the idea better. Audie Murphy WAS the most decorated US soldier. He came back from the war addicted to drugs, with severe PTSD. He overcame that addiction by himself, wrote a book titled TO HELL AND BACK and then became an actor, playing in spaghetti westerns. That song is great played live. 🤘🎶🇵🇱
Wasn't this an Ode to his acting career after he got out of the army he was a world famous actor too from my understanding. He was in westerns in war movies I thought? So maybe that's an ode to Audie I think.
My introduction to Sabaton was when Van Canto covered Primo Victoria. And then Ghost Division, I think. It'd be a trip to see Van Canto on this channel...something like "Tribe of Force" or their Manowar "Kings of Metal" cover is so fun. If anyone's unaware, Van Canto is like 6 singers and a drummer. It's unique.
Just found your channel a few days ago and started watching. I like the back and forth after each song. Sabaton is great, but I'd like to hear some more Devin Townsend since you were both kind of unfamiliar with his work. I'd recommend Strapping Young Lad - Zen off of the album Alien, or for some his solo work, Truth off of the album Infinity, or his live version of Kingdom (off of the album Physicist) performed for EMG's TH-cam channel is particularly great as well.
I’ve heard people say Sabaton overdoes the epic, anthemic sound, but they ain’t singing about army cooks who peeled potatoes above and beyond the call of duty. I love it.
Was Judson trying to say Sverige at 2:15? If so, my best approximation to the pronunciation without using IPA is probably "is very yeah", rolling the R of course :D
i don't think he made spaghetti westerns, american cinema westerns he loved. but the movie american cinema made about his life and service was named "to hell and back". he is not a very large man more on the petite side of scale but awarded the medal of honor and legion of merit (european medal of honor).
Oh, gather 'round me, comrades And listen while I weep; Of a war, a war, a war... where hell is six feet deep. Along the shore, the cannons roar. Oh how can a soldier sleep? This is not Power Metal, it’s Wacken-Music. Power Metal is Vicious Rumors, Armored Saint or Metal Church. At least Sabaton should be called European Power Metal… :)
This is not heavy metal 🤔 just because you have electric guitars does not make you metal. This is classic rock/pop songs. Nothing wrong with it, Sabaton is a pretty competent hard rock band.
Difficult stuff, esp. bcs it‘s the album where they started to turn rly plastic and to repeat themselves. To meet expectations: „Night Witches“ would have been a better choice… 😜 Also, don‘t overestimate their live performance these days. There are less metal ppl now, but lots of war nuts in camouflage pants, some nationalist hacks and your occasional ACDC/Rammstein daddies that suddenly listen to „metal“ bcs it fits the midlife crisis motorcycle they just bought. No offense tho - it’s their choice and some ppl are there for the spectacle… 🤐
This was a big miss for me. Just can't get into sabaton at all. Vocalist sounds horrible to me and every song I've heard sounds kinda the same to be honest. I've tried multiple times to listen to them because I have some friends who like them but it just doesn't work for me.
The reason for the spaghetti western style... Audie Murphy acted in that kind of movies.
I mean it's mostly a stylistic choice, Joakim wanted to make a Western/Metal sound work.
THE CROSSES GROW ON ANZIO

So glad you finally got to Sabaton! Many great lessons to learn all while rockin' out! Hope to hear more.
My man needs to listen to cliff of Gallipoli for the piano aspect.
Being an Aussie who grew up studying Cliffs of Galipoli - I concur!
Lets add "the hammer has fallen" to the piano led song playlist
@@susanjw7763 I agree as a Turkish man who lived in Gallipoli :)

Love the blues intro. Love the aggressive eye contact 😂
Give Sabatons livevideos a watch, because yes the live experience is insane.

Judson is going to love Primo Victoria, the pure adrenaline that chorus creates is absurd! Very catchy as well.
To Helen Bach. ... an ode to Beethovens Aunt Helen... famous historical figure
😂
_Johann Sebastian Bach's_ Aunt Helen.
More Sabaton guys \m/
Du bist der beste kanal, du bist der Interessanteste zum anschauen, alles gute, mach weiter so

More Sabaton ❤
And I recommend Christmas Truce by Sabaton next. As a music video. And let it play through the end credits, too. ;)

The lyrics are made taking parts of Murphy's poems written by himself after war.
Oh glorious day! I bet he digs it. And some sweet blues playing. Btw

Thanks for the laughs guys... "and that's all folks!"

That was fun and not at all what I thought they'd sound like with a black metal name like that. Happy metal for sure.
Burnside w/ Blues Explosion, Judson.
Sabaton...awesome
Oh, gather 'round me, comrades

Of a war, a war, a war...

Audie Murphy
this is nice one ! ^^
Never mind Sabaton, Sabbat-Intro/A Cautionary Tale..British Thrashers from the 80's...
Hey, is that a tenor or a concert ukulele?
Concert but I got a low g on it
I thought you said juice harp, I googled it that way. 😄
You can find Hel from Norse mythology if you fancy her ;)
Dance of eternity by Dream Theater
You should give some of their music videos a try as well. Some of the best I've seen. Only Rammstein come close imo.
When it comes to goofy over the top "fun" stuff like this I prefer Finntroll and their weird blend of kinda melodic black metal and polka stuff.
Please react to Lustre or Abstract Void.
Suspiciously ok from over-produced Scandinavian Metallions, this track is a bit like Turisas...
This is not Power Metal, it’s Wacken-Music. Power Metal is Vicious Rumors, Armored Saint or Metal Church. At least Sabaton should be called European Power Metal… :)
it got me riled up to
this is nowhere near what power metal sounds like
this is pop metal for normies to consume at mass
You guys gotta listen to Lovebites, the best heavy metal band today
cant sing about ww2 without a disco beat
vnvnationwhat
Poor man's Manowar ; )
Manowar unfortunately have become the poor man's Manowar themselves.

Haha, certainly!
I kinda saw that as a given.
LOL!!

Just to help the algorythim. You picked the wrong one.

Too Helen and Bach....

first 😀
I really don't like this song. Yea that's about it.
