also - a realisation as I was editing this video - I will come up with another compliment for desserts, that doesn't involve me saying "not too sweet" lol
I’m exactly the same. Don’t like sweets that are too sweet. Btw, Belem is pronounced with the accent on the second vowel. Go to Lisbon and visit Belem to see where they come from! So fabulous! And they are not too sweet, unlike many others.
Thank you, Janice, for introducing us to all the Portuguese culinary delights. All the savoury food and sweets looked so delicious! Hope I will have a chance to try all your recommendations when I visit Sydney. Keep up your vlogging. I love watching your videos 🎉
I love the fact that you say not too sweet…..my taste exactly! Oooo….those prawns looked delish…. And the sardine toast, too! I also looooove the chocolate custard tart! Time to re visit Petersham. Thanks ❤
3:25 OMG.. how are you not ABSOLUTELY STUFFED.. WOW! You're a real champ and a girl after my heart.. DAMN!! The places you've visited and the things you've done are OUTSTANDING!!! :)
When we visited Sydney early this year, I never realised how much of a Foodies paradise it is.... you could roam that city for yearssss and still find something new and yummy to try out!!! Cheers Don, Perth WA (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland) p.s. hope you've tried out my suggestion of BondiTony's Burger Joint in Enmore.... Stevie Jacobs (the TV presenter) and Tony are the owners and their place rocks!!!..... the Margarita's are a must try too ;)
One of the things i grew up eating for breakfast once or twice a week as an Australian was also tinned sardines in tomato sauce on toast. I loved it when I was young, then when I reached abour ten and realised what the spinal bones where I was put off for ages. Nowadays as a 30 somthing though i've gotten right back into them, the taste and nostalgia is amazing, and the fact I'm eating the spine of a fish just doesn't worry me anymore.
haha I wasn't sure if I needed to eat it with bread or something. you know how at Chinese restaurant those dishes are typically shared and eaten with rice? I feel like the dish 100% needs to be shared and be eaten with some sort of carb 😅
As an Australian living in Porto, I’m glad I’m not forking out those prices for what is a very underrated cuisine. Everything looked great, but very heavy handed with tomato sauce on the bacalhau. For me, Portugal excels in pork dishes. Enjoyable vid.❤
I was glad to hear you made two trips - I kept on wondering how much you could eat in one day! Anyways - I loved this and will go there next time I am in Sydney as I am a sucker for sardines. Well done Janice!!.
hellllllo! been a while but hope you guys are all doing well! as always, let me know your recs on restaurants! Would love to check out more Portuguese eats here in Sydney 🙏🏻
Lunas is ok, though you might want to try Silvas Restaurant, way more traditional Portuguese food. It's also in Petersham and you need to book, the takeaway menu is a very small subset of what you can try.
Hey Janice welcome back you have been missed a great video on the Portuguese cuisine ..I know it sounds kinda boring but they are known for there delicious sandwiches also ..and you never go wrong with a Portuguese tart ..x💗🥰🫶
Omg! Everything looks so good. The funny thing is you know Sydney is so divided by harbourbridge that no one really across the other side.. living in northshore, going into the east or west is an annual event and it seems like so many interesting restaurants but none in north!… I’ve lived here more than 20 yrs but never been to some suburbs you covered. Cabramatta and this little Portugal.. I will make a special trip to try all these… thank you. BTW, can you do restaurant recommendations in northshore, please…
You should get Lorraine AKA Not Quite Nigella in one of your videos. I've been following her for years and have her book. Lorraine is a great cook and her recipes are easy to make.
I feel seen - you went to pretty much everywhere I go in Petersham Janice. l haven’t made it to Luna’s yet, but I am totally addicted to Sweet Belem’s pastel de natas - I always tell myself I’ll try something different each time I visit but they are so incredible it’s hard not to walk out with just them. Silva’s chilli and garlic sauce is great when you get a takeaway quarter chicken and chips because it covers everything - so good. I also love Frangos chicken burger - and think their chilli sauce is just in front of silva’s but gee it’s close. Final note - try the sausages from the Spanish Portuguese Butchery across the road from the pub - pure quality. They also do incredible cured meats. Great video 👏
Oh the francesinha does not look right because the cheese layer should have been melted totally. Amazing vlog and I am really hoping you could release videos more frequently. I miss the old times. Thank you Janice, love Katrin❤️
@@JaniceFung defo Fich on Audrey St. Same group as Belem/ Lunas & Noi but it’s Italian (very good tho) as are Perama & Kubota. ( not Portuguese either ) We are very lucky. 😀 love your reviews ❤️

Gambas ajillio I think..
Garlic, lemon, parsley, maybe lemon rind…

Great introduction to Sydney's Little Portugal. Eaten there and agree with Janice that the food is exceptional.

Love that you asked how to eat the bacalao dish and as someone who grew up in Japan, "not too sweet" is the highest of compliments for desserts!

The food looked great. Garlic pawns and Portuguese Daan Tat are my favorites. Thanks for sharing enjoyed.
fave daan tart is the super buttery and flakey ones!
Everything looked delicious! Even the bacalhau! Thanks for another enlightening video 🙏

Hello Janice nice seeing you again wow so good yum 😋 yum 😋👍
cheers Stanley!
Outrageous prices at Luna's
A couple of Petersham “institutions “… always go the Silvas BBQ chicken with the garlic and chilli sauce.
oooft the combo of their chili & garlic sauce was perfect
Hi Janice, good to see your vids back 😀👍
Cheers Peter !! 🙌🏻
The last time I had garlic prawns like that was the Spanish restaurant "Costa Brava near China town in the sixties I think 50 cents.
and now all I get for 50 cents is squeezey tomato sauce for my meat pie
Hope you are ok, Janice!
I just saw Janice on the ABC Australia youtube channel ... talking about Laksa in Darwin.
🙏🙏 thank you for checking in! I’m backkk :)
Loved it ❤x
Cheers Tracey! 🙏
Portuguese tarts are best in Macau from Lord Stow - straight out of the oven, still hot. Nothing in Sydney comes CLOSE to this..
umm you just can't leave your viewers stranded - we are waiting for more blogs
I was hoping you’d show Frangos
😋😋😋😋😋👍👍👍👍👍

Unlike Mark W you don't ask for chilli , you need to up your chilli game .
working on it 🌶
@@JaniceFung Looking forward to Janice Fung chilli oil at Woolies.
you're very pretty
The Portuguese pronunciation of Jose is Jo-say. Ho-say is Spanish.
Sydney is too expensive
Right fucking expensive in everything….
You've lost a lot of weight Janice!
Your mispronunciation of José ruins the video.
Portuguese J = english J, not like the Spanish J.
