It's been a while since I've done a suburb visit - and in this video, we check out all the amazing food scene in Marrickville! I am honestly well overdue a visit - a couple of my absolutely favourites - the vermicelli at VN Street Food, and the steamed rice noodle roll at Banh Cuon Ba Oanh. Was thinking about it a lot as I was editing this video too.
And if you're reading the comment section (does anyone actually read these?) Let me know what other places you'd really recommend in Marrickville - will come back and do a second vid!!

PLACES TO EAT IN MARRICKVILLE! Vietnamese Food, Japanese Cafe & Desserts! Sydney Weekly Food Vlog ft. AdrianWidjy (and ube softserve at Filipino Cafe)
I really enjoy your videos of trying new places around Sydney to eat .Your down to earth attitude and honesty keeps bringing me back.
Keep up the great work.
Oh good normal programming has resumed!😀 Much prefer these Sydney eatery vlogs over the other content.
Like wat content? Ill talk to my boy spanian😂
Janice fung can u collab with spanian?
I love your Sydney videos (a little biased because I live in Sydney!) I also like your family vlogs, your relationship with your siblings is so fun
Thank you so much Judy!
Hi Janice I love the videos of new places you try around in Sydney! Also cannot believe you collabed with Adrian 😍😍 the collab we never knew we needed!
combination of all 3, no matter what it is you do it oh so well, and love when you go behind the scenes, she how the restaurant makes it and then make it at home :)
In the middle of a 6 week holiday in Sydney, this video couldn’t have come at a better time.
6 week holiday! wowwww have the most amazing time!
Love the travel vlogs, restaurant reviews and cooking videos. Basically, all of it, love all of it :D
really enjoy all the australian content whether it's food or travel
Hi, Janice! Love all your videos! I'd love to see more of your travel food vlogs, whether domestic or international! Keep it up!
Appreciate the suggestions - thank you!
Love any content from you Janice!
I like your Sydney food videos, they feel so familiar and kinda old-school youtube (rather than tiktok influencer vibe) in a way I really enjoy. Also great to see the recs in this video!
Awesome video
Thank you Janice for sharing your tips..❤❤
I really liked the vids you used to do where you went to a restaurant tried their dish and then tried to replicate it at home. Was like a good cooking lesson to me.
I’m so glad you like those! Those take a deceptively long time to plan and make 😅- but also one of my fave type of vids to make
Whilst i like the travel vlogs, what id really love to see is you go to each state in Australia, and find the top 10 places to eat at each and then rate. Have your ever seen the YT channel, Best Ever Food Review Show? It's based on the states, but id love to see a show like that in Australia.
Love all your videos, but if I had to pick, definitely your restaurant reviews! I’ve been to a couple you featured and they’re really good!
thanks Joyce! which ones did you end up heading to?
Love the Sydney vlogs. Hope you cover the Portuguese food in Petersham some time
Ooooh yes! That’s been a video idea for such a long time. Any spots you reckon I gotta hit up
Sweet Belem Cake Botique, Frangos and Silvias - yum 😊
Yes, Portuguese cuisine is good. But there are not many Portuguese restaurants left in Petersham, many of them have close down already.
By the way, my impression is that all Vietnamese restaurants serve the same dishes (or almost).
As an expat I really enjoy your Sydney vlogs. Gives me ideas on where to eat when I'm back home
I love watching all the videos you do x
Great work, Janice. I love the 'where to eat' content, no matter if it's in Sydney or abroad.
Appreciate it! Thank you for watching 🙏
I love all the content of the videos. But especially food vlogs and travel vlogs❤
Thanks Lynn! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Good morning, Janice. It's 3AM here in So California and what a treat to see your fun vid. Loved your fun mate the creme brulee donut guy..😂. I wish we had a Merrickville here so I could try all those yummy dishes! Thanks, Janice, you always make such wonderful vids showcasing ethnic foods. Please keep them comin'!! ❤❤❤
I always smile watching your entire vid. Yum Yum...😊👍👍
I have been following your views for a while and I enjoy them alot. Please do more of a behind the brand stories. I love to hear their story, how they got there.
We are lucky to live in Sydney, lot of food options, but things are reather sprea a part.
Restaurant reviews are cool, keep those up
🙏🙏
Surprisingly .. Hawkes has great Aussie 90s style Chinese food. Their prawn toast rocked !
Nice video Janice, my favourite YT videos from u are Sydney vlogs, hk vlogs and family content ❤ your siblings and parents too
cheers Jamie, thanks for letting me know! 🙌🏻
Try Fran &Rafi’s in Oatlands! The Korean bakery does the most amazing range of cakes and pastries ever!! A hidden gem!
Hi Janice, Really enjoy your restaurant reviews and your travel vlogs. Have you tried Dumpling House in Chatswood, my favourite restaurant for xiao long bao in Sydney.
ayooooooooooooooooo wow okay, well we like this type of content over the other stuff lol; to answer your question. That dessert joint looks so good
I dont mind watching anything u create, just follow ur dreams
Hey Janice, It's been great watching your channel grow. Love the places to eat in Sydney and all the travel vlogs - not much a of cook these days so I would likely skip these. Have shared this on my Sydneyexpert group!
Hey Paula so good to hear from ya! really appreciate the share 🙏🏻
Every thing looks delicious 👍🤙👌
We love all your content (as you know 😆)!!! Keep up with the great work, and congrats again on ABC 😃
Ahh thank you so much guys!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
I would love to see more reviews on restaurents as soon as possible in sydney..
By the way,you food vlog shines the whole perspective of food fanatic.
Thanks for watching the vids !
I discovered ube ice cream in the Philippines and loved it! Thank you for sharing where I can actually find it in Sydney!
Hope you like the ice cream as much as I did!
You should also try Hung Cheung Yum Cha in Marrickville. The friendliest service and a proper good little yum cha spot
Love all your videos especially when you take us to restaurants with good food good deals and special places. Try to go to places further to south or west of Sydney. Not only introducing Sydney CBD, Eastwood or Chatswood in North Sydney. Thank you.
Love your Sydney eating vlogs coz I live in Sydney, but also enjoy your travel vlogs. Keep up the good work Janice! Add oil~
Thank you so much Maggie !
I love the food places you went so delicious and those donuts looked so good .they have a yummy yerros shop in Marrickville called Victoria yeeros and Bourke st bakery is just down the road from that too ..lovely video Janice 🥰🫶💗…x
Thank you Irena!
Always enjoy your food videos, brings back memories of my visit to Sydney a few years ago and those Australian meat pies , nothing like them here in UK . Always interesting and entertaining
Appreciate it Michael! Do you remember what meat pie joints you went to?
@@JaniceFung All I remember was it was under Sydney Harbour Bridge and by a fire station built in 1910 it was a pub ,not sure that will help you sorry . I also had one at Harry's pies and peas which is famous in Sydney.
Definitely visit The giant bean cafe at marrickville and try their chilli and chorizo eggs.
Thanks for covering my suburb, u have inspired me to try some new places and dishes that i have yet to discover. My favs in Marrickville is the burgers at Marrickville Golf club combined with a river walk at the end, hello Aunty and the mushroom toasties at Marrickville library. Also thete is a vegan Egyptian eatery in the car park at Addison rd community centre that does rose hot chocolate.
Will definitely check those places out thanks Rebecca!
Hi Janice, personal opinion is as follows, I prefer local Sydney content, and would be great if you can film some activities that are current in Sydney as well.
Additionally, I would suggest you take full use of the first several minutes to capture more of your viewers attention perhaps an extract of the upcoming video content. Also, I understand film and speak while you are in public is extremely difficult, a way I saw other TH-camrs do is by adding some content through voice to the video during the editing process. Would be awesome if you add some knowledge and history of the places you visit as well Ie a bit about Marrickville. Don’t know your proportion of your viewers’ geographical location, but at a relatively fresh Sydney resident, would be interesting to hear more about the history of the place and the food involved. Just some personal thoughts
wow making me hungry
I think a combination of the 3 is fine for a general audience, personally I like those for visits to restaurants and new places.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey! Some places you missed out on in marrickville:
Valentina’s
Goodwood
Coffee alchemy
Viet Rolls
Alex N Rolls
Pizza Madre
Algorithm
Agnes
And all the breweries of course!
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻thanks for this!
Hi , I am thoroughly enjoying this video . I am a Mother-in-law to a beautiful Aust .born Vietnamese gracious daughter in law , and as I am 4 th generation Ozzie , and have never been to Marrickville , this is great for me . 👏
Pronunciation is on point ,👌🏼
Have fun good time eating 🍴 yummy 😋 food and travelling so amazing🤩👍💖💖
🙏🙏🙏
Great area
Check out Eastwood, Burwood, Chatswood and see which restaurant is good to go
Next time you are back in Marrickville, go to Co Ba on Illawarra road and try the sizzling steak. It's amazing
Ooo noted. Thanks so much for the rec Graham!
Hi Janice, I really like your videos. So good! I have a great spot for you to try next - Ladies and Gentlemen Cafe and Diner in Enmore, Sydney. It's always packed for good reasons. Too many tasty dishes to choose from: Taiwanese chicken pockets, chicken katsu, yakisoba, bai-kut set... The scrambled eggs are the best I have ever had. Coffee is always perfect
Oooh thank you so much for the rec! On my list to check out ☺️
Hi Janice, love all your videos, I’m a 3 combo , 😂
Hahaha cheers peter
You absolutely have to check out Goodwood Bakery and also Where’s Nick!
i'd love for you or the other sydney food reviewers to also go to the northern side of sydney e.g. northern beaches :)
love your content.....my issue is what food to eat before a flight?...in sydney my go to is Taste of Thai, beef noodle soup...amazing.
whats your go to Janice?
Air Port Food Volg Plz hhehe
I love getting a sausage and egg McMuffin from maccas before I travel 😜
Illawarra Pork Roll > Marrickville Pork Roll. Also Siansiam Fresh Sushi + Gia Dinh. Now part 2 pls~
i like the variety of stuff you do, but i personally find the cooking videos fun, wish you did more of those. also it's cool when you try foods you haven't tried before :O I think you should do a weekly fruit taste test where every week you try a new fruit or compare different varieties of the same fruit haha, im obsessed with fruit lol .
Haha maybe I’ll do that fruit series as a short form content series - what’s the first fruit you reckon I should try
@@JaniceFung if you haven't tried fresh passion fruit that would be cool, there's a few varieties, same with durian. It would also be cool if you went foraging and found something native to Australia :o
My 8 years old daughter love your Vlog and all video . Wish we will see you one day and a chance to try some new food with you .
Thanks for this comment! Im so glad you guys like it ☺️☺️🫶🏻 pls say hi if you ever see me filming out and about!
Enjoy another creme brulee donut for me! 😋
You're too kind Alus! a view & a comment is more than enough 🙏🏻 thank you so much for the support!!
I frequent Marrickville for my food. Most are covered by others. I thought you would cross over to Alex n Roll after VN Street food but u didn't 😱. Their caramelised pork that melt in your mouth literally shocked me that I dropped the whole box into my Prada bag 😂. So good. Other recommendations would be Malaysian restaurant KL Authentic food on the other end of Illawarra Rd away from the busy side of Marrickville. Highly recommended their nasi kerabu and nasi kandar. Open Wed-Sun only. My another favourite award winning restaurant, Corinthian Rotisserie Greek restaurant on Marrickville Road. I can't name a favourite because all really good and cooked by the mother, an old lady you might meet if she comes out from the kitchen and ya the father too but their spinach and feta cheese pie is my favourite. Ladies and gentlemen Cafe not too far from Kurumac worth going especially their pork belly bread, pai ku set and pocket. Their matcha latte too good.
Hahaha I love this very detailed comment 😂 how’s the prada bag now?
Thank you so much for all the suggestions! Seeing all the comments here I feel like I’ll definitely have to do a part 2 now
Prada unfortunately smell of fish sauce for a very long time. But if the pork was that good, I thought worth dropping it into my bag. 😂
About other places to try at Marrickville, Pizza Madre (just down the road from Miss Sina) is always full (and overflowing) at night. Vegetarian Pizza
Ahh that place has been on my list for the longest time!!!
Any good Thai restaurants around UNSW, or Bondi?
Hi Janice! You should also try Ladies & Gentlemen cafe diner at 295 Enmore Road. Their chicken pocket is the best of the best, the chicken is so tender and juicy. I also love the seasoning because it reminds me of the fried chicken I had in the night market in Taiwan. Other must-try dishes are Bai-Kut Rice Set and Yakisoba! Look forward to Marrickville Part 2!
On my list now - thank you!!
I would love to see what dishes are at the boiling crap in Sydney ❤❤
The typo made me lol 😅but I’ll
Check them out and see if they’re good!
Gotta do Marrickville Pork Rolls or Alex and rolls
and Bagels from Lox in a Box
Oooooh yes for sure 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Combo please!
Hi Janice! Loved the video. Everytime I’m in the Marrickville area, I always drop by Mochipang for some fresh fruit & cream mochis. Please check it out if you’re going back - would love to see your reaction!
Where was this when I visited Merrickville first time 2 weeks ago!!! Btw avoid Monday and Tuesday most places don’t open
Ahh that’s such a good tip re Mon & tues - where did you end up going when you were at Marrickville?
Hello, my partner and I discovered you during the lockdown and have been following ever since.
We appreciate the research and dedication you put into all that you do.
We would absolutely love to see you showcase Malaysian cuisine in Malaysia and can advise on where to go whether in KL, Penang or Melaka.
Keep up the fantastic work
- Maria & Jon
Thanks so much Maria & Jon!
i love malay food, maybe do an episode to recommend best malay restaurants in sydney
Where are your fave spots??
4:32 😊
4:48 Collabs, too!
Got it 😉
Adrian!!!!!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Gotta try valentinos!
it's on my list now 😉
Any chance of doing Burwood please?
😉
Good video
Cheers Joseph!
That ube ice will melt😂😂 if she don't end the video
lol pretty much. it was a one-take outtro - the ice-cream wouldn't allow more takes
Hi Janice! I prefer travel vlogs over the local Sydney vlogs. I enjoy watching food on airplanes and beautiful scenary in new countries.
How hard is it to make scramble eggs and put some roe on it??
Guess she made the wrong decision, I also will definitely not order that outside
lol I thought I'd try something different - taco rice / their mazesoba still my fave
what places did i miss? also which suburbs should i hit up next 🤔
You gone to Burwood?
Co Ba Marrickville (Vietnamese)
Lazza Marrickville (Filipino)
Okami Marrickville (Japanese)
The D's Bar & Dining Marrickville (Contemporary Asian)
thank you Michael!
long overdue a video I think!
Petersham for Portuguese food
Please make video about restaurant and new place
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
11:34 You know it's good when Asians say this when trying desserts 🤣
Hahaha “not too sweet “ 😌😌
Banh cuon in VN Street food it’s better than Banh cuon in Ba Oanh
100% Sydney food vlogs.... Mixed up a little more... Glad you came to the inner west.
Not keen on travel vlogs... I suppose look at your viewer locations and cater to them ❤🎉
For dinner, try Hello Auntie. It's a busy spot and noisy due to small but cosy place. I was there for a work thing and just ate whatever was ordered. Their fried rice impressed and I'm hard to be impressed with fried rice.
thanks for the rec! I walk past the one in darling square a lot - will pop there for dinner next time
No donuts can be worth those prices
*bettle not beetle leaf :)
It's actually BETEL leaf & pronounced the same as beetle. ☮️
Have you tried Alex’ & Rolls ? Much better rolls than Marrickville Pork Rolls. Marrickville Pork Rolls was excellent in the old days. Nowadays, they treat their rolls like rolls for dogs and not for human, throwing everything inside randomly and messy. They no longer deserve their title as one of the best Vietnamese rolls.
🙈 P r o m o S M
Not the Best places in Marrickville..!!
These places you went are all biased and just Vietnamese..
Your forgetting the big Greek culture, Cousins in Marrickville also Portuguese....
If you want ice cream you can not Beat "Gelato Franco" in Marrickville, or "Gelato Messina" corner of Victoria Road and Rich Street...
For cakes and Sweets you can not beat "Athena Cake Shop"...
If you want fast food you can not beat "Frangose" in Marrickville Metro, or "Baby Ray's Burges" on Marrickville Road...
For Coffee "Double Roasters" across from Wicks Park...
For a Cafe in Marrickville, "Valentina's on Livingston Road or "Kelby's...
Greek food "Corinthian" and "The Gyros" shop illawarra Road...
Vietnamese food "Khou Eatery Marrickville and "Alex n Rolls" Marrickville Road...
Boring and fake
