8 best, 3 are from Burke St Bakery - the same tart as you list plus their lemon tart (again not too sweet) and their Soy and Linseed Bread. 4) Anything from Cairo Take Away lol 5) Baklava icecream from Hakiki again weirdly not too sweet 6) char kway teow from Ho Jiak Haymarket 7) when you need something appalling sweet to fix hangovers the baby gulab jamons from Maya Sweets 8) anything from Long Chim

I would have chosen most of these, certain things just scream Aussie like meat pie and Harry's is the best. Classic sausage roll. For the burger it HAS to have beetroot on it. Steak in Australia is world quality, before the big waygu craze it was all Australian Angus at the best restaurants. Obviously being on the water our seafood is top notch. I'd also say a Turkish kebab shop for either a kebab or pide. Heaps of bakeries seem to be Vietnamese so they will probably have Bahn Mi, if they don't you can grab a sausage roll there. For deserts I'd say an Anzac biscuit or a lamington. Great list Janice.

I haven’t been down there for years but whenever my brother comes in from overseas he’ll always go to Paul’s Famous Hamburgers in Sylvania on the south side of Tom Uglys Bridge. They’ve been making burgers there since 1957. Always had huge lines when I was down that way and as well as the old school Aussie hamburgers they do a delicious pineapple crush drink. When I think of quintessential Australian places Paul’s is right up there.

There was a steak restaurant at the Shell House cnr of Margaret and Carrington in Sydney that had the best Hereford steaks to die for (20yrs ago). The beef was sourced directly from Cowra,NSW and the place was constantly packed at lunchtime, only open for lunch, near impossible to book unless you were a regular. Luckily I was invited a few times to be dined by the boss. It destroyed me forever, trying to find the perfect steak since.

I live in spitting distance to the fish market & as you walk in the first takeaway on your left gave me food poisoning. As I was vomiting 4 am in the morning I heard Gordon Ramsay say: "when food is going off it is covered in white sauce". And that is what was layered over the scallops

As a Sydney sider , we all have our favourite meat pie places but unfortunately Harry’s Cafe De Wheels is not one them. Your local bakeries make better tasting pies.. If you are a tourist to Sydney and you heard the hype then you will most likely try Harry Cafe de Wheels but there not to rave about.. It’s a photo opportunity at best standing beside their vans.. Good Luck

    Bourke Street Cafe??
Oh gosh, we went there just yesterday, they call themselves a cafe, I thought they got indoor sittings, not until we arrived that we found out the sittings are on the street !!! They should have warned customers to bring their own chairs.

Hi Janice, my name is Sal Salomon, from Mosman, and I wanted to know why your mum speaks in Cantonese in a very flamboyant tone? I studied Cantonese in the past, and I am trying to understand why your mum speaks in a very different tone to other Cantonese speakers I have chatted with.

Hong Kong people speak like that. Cantonese speakers from other countries speak differently (accent?/upbringing). Try watching Cantonese drama from Hong kong

@@Lifeguardyeah "gum guai" ho sek. Sounds pretty crude. "Gan dan" in her tone was condescending. Then again, I can't expect much when they come from a place where they behead people and cook their head in a soup. That's HK for you. My home country Israel is much safer than that bird cage style lifestyle over there.
