CSX Heritage: Locomotive 1852 Honoring the Western Maryland Railway

- CSX’s newest heritage locomotive commemorates the proud history of the Western Maryland Railway, which formed in 1852! The Western Maryland was a small but mighty railroad that hauled coal and freight in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania before merging with the B&O and C&O to eventually become part of CSX as we know it today. Our fleet of heritage locomotives, including the CSX 1852, continue to help reinforce our #ONECSX team's pride in the history of CSX.
Even though people hate the heritage units, I definitely have some favorites and not some favorites, but 1852 is definitely a favorite.
No way I found ya here
@@csx6504 crazy
Haven’t heard of a person not liking them. All the spotters are always looking for them.
@@AaronDotZone it's because it's something different than just a regular Gevo, so they go out to spot it even though they don't like them. I did the same thing when the Monon and New York Central were paired up, I didn't like NYC and wasn't a fan of Monon, but they were different so I went for them.
@@AaronDotZone I've seen plenty of people on discord hating the heritage units but when it comes to railfanning, you can't really miss the chance to capture a unique locomotive
Anyone noticing the WMSR fireball?
I did, but I think WMSR helped with this scheme.
Hello Thunderbolt
Bravo CSX! I grew up visiting my grandparents in Western MD. Saw these trains all the time during my visits. Also, as a shareholder, I appreciate the fact that CSX has chosen to recognize its past. Great Job. 👍
I remember the black with the yellow lettering with the speedball emblem. Those were the proud days for the WM, with all those fast-moving coal trains. Lots of RS 3's on the Thomas Sub. Thanks for the memories.
Great job CSX, Keep it up, it’s great that they’re paying attention to the smaller railroads that make up the system
Honestly it would have been a really nice touch to put the Fireball on the front of the nose as it would've stood out there but not intruded too much on the overall design but this is still a very sharp looking heritage unit, good going CSX!
Can’t lie they still did awesome with this one!
I always get so frustrated because they paint the cab in modern livery. Sometimes the best artwork is on the nose and cab. Is it just an ego thing?
@@sakeeler agreed
Looks great, honors the “Wild Mary” a unique component of CSX
I love them all but i think you got the New York Central unit's font wrong.
despite what some people have on this unit, I still quite like it. Something to take note of however is usage of the wrong fireball logo as thats of the WMSR instead of the actual Western Maryland Railway as the original is "Fast Freight Line".
Hey guys, I love your heritage units, but you used the wrong logo for 1852. The actual WM logo should say "Fast Freight Line". What you used was the WMSR logo that says "The Scenic Route". Aside from that, looks great.
I think that was intentional.
Glad you pointed that out. Fast Freight Line indeed
@@milepost465historyhobbies4 I didn't even know about the incorrect logo until someone on discord pointed it out.
@@NW2174Fan I had a CSX employee point it out to me
I wasn’t a huge fan at first, but it’s growing on me. I’m glad to see the smaller lines get attention. Gives me hope to see units for the smaller lines that came together for FLS/SBD
I’m not a hater on these heritage units it reminds me of csx and whatever the railroad is on the unit
Great Job! It Looks Awesome!
holy hell they did an amazing job with this heritage locomotive
Thank you CSX for this and the other heritage units!❤
CSX could’ve had some really great heritage units had they not insisted on spoiling them with the CSX junk paint on the front. The NYC unit was the worst as it completely left out the famous lightning stripe scheme on the front. Oh well.
Agree wholeheartedly. Especially hard to look at is the B&O colors next to the CSX scheme. Yech.
Wuss.
it's hilarious how they used the WMSR fireball instead of the WM fireball
Thank you for choosing this scheme over the black scheme. Really like it!
It looks beautiful! There are some people saying it looks like the Texas flag. What do you guys think about that?
oh god i see it lol
It looks more like a pack of cigarettes
It looks like the Texas flag with that blue nose. If it didn't say Western Maryland Railway on the side of it I'd have no idea what it was.
This will be my favorite until the Clinchfield comes out! 10/10, CSX!
Great video CSX of the Western Maryland Heritage Unit! Every time you guys complete one of that looks PHENOMENAL the Waycross Paint Shop unveils another! You guys knocked it out of the park yet again! Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.
About time you gave credit to an important pioneering railroad that CSX rose from. WM was one of the best examples of Appalachian Mountains railroad engineering.
This is sooooo BEAUTIFUL
I think what you’re doing is spot on!!!!
You are honoring your heritage and you are reminding people that you are now proudly CSXT!!!!!!🎉🎉
spot on… meanwhile this one has a tourist railroads logo…..
@@mratsfrailfan1894 so what?
It’s beautiful
Have a problem?
Go buy your own paint & brushes and show the entire world you can do better
@@MillersRailfan”it’s beautiful” bro it’s a non half-assed, if you are just gonna halfass a job might aswell not do it at all
No it's not, none of them are beautiful. They look like as if Dollar tree took a look at the photoshopped images of CSX heritage units on Google. Took inspiration and came out with their own with low budget along with less then a half of bucket of paint.
@@threepea1151 so dude; grab your paint buckets and brushes and YOU paint a locomotive that’s even one percent as good
I wish they did some heritage units with dash 8s!
How about a full repaint , not 75%
Man i love the western texas railroad
What's the particular reason you guys chose to use the logo of the Western Maryland Scenic Railway instead of the actual Western Maryland Railway?
I love this engine but just one thing I wish they did is make a little bit more black on the top
Yall going to include the black fireball skin?
Also why not paint the whole locomotive?
Cause yall have some nice units that would look good all the way round.
Love these heritage units. Great job CSX
Okay. This is the best heritage unit so far. Keep up the good work And hey you're better than norfolk southern
Looks like the Texas flag, if you see it you see it, if you don't you don't.
I see a pack of cigarettes lol
I prepared myself to not get speed lettering on day one, but honestly, I like this a lot. I even like the fireball on top of the circus colors. I think it actually looks pretty good. But was it a colab with the scenic? I'm just wondering why it says "the scenic line" instead of "fast freight line"
Wait the logo is wrong it’s supposed to be the fast freight line
Yay, the Wild Mary!
How many heritage units are you up to now by the way?
It’s interesting that they show a picture of the WM F7 with steam on Helmstetters curve in Cash Valley Md on the connelsville sub-division. With they had done some of the black roof down the sides the width of the radiator hood. The black would have set it off even more. All of the Csx heritage units will be challenging to get to see them all!
this is great but the NYC heritage unit is still a piece of dogshit.
👍WM/ CSX👍, hello from the Eastern Shore. 👋😎🛤🚂🚄
Ok yeah. That one’s pretty sweet. Nice job guys
TEXAS FLAG
I live in Western Maryland and this is quite a treat! 😊
Patiently waiting for *Clinchfield 1924.*
Also, what the literal happened to M523 terminating in Pensacola Florida, you literally just diverted the entire thing to Mobile. According to my years of filming at Goulding Yard; M523 originated at Radnor (Tennessee) and used to terminate at Pensacola, however, now it’s terminating at Mobile….and I know for a fact, it has nothing to do with that bridge collapse in Maryland.
Awesome job CSX my 3rd favorite heritage unit behind 1973 and 1976.
Thank you for the information, you guys are the best, @CSXOifficial, I like that heritage unit.
I think CSX would be the only railroad on top of the tier list..CSX is ontop. I just love the new paint schemes, people might hate it but at least csx is doing something good, unlike the other railroads no hating but, I've lived by the CSX tracks my whole 15 years, and its been good catching all these new paints coming out.. everytime an engine would get repainted, it'll always come on to M692-3 or m653. some of those symbols, I like to post them on Heritage Units app and track them down to catch them. Great job CSX! Keep up the good work!
CSX 1852 Western Maryland It's Look Like Texas Flag Style
I was fortunate to catch it at Point of Rocks a couple of wks ago, it deserves to be put back on the Cumberland sub instead of out west,
I think CSX 1899 (Pere Marquette) will be next. Then 1967 (SCL) and 1875 (P&LE)
I think that one is the best so far! Good job CSX!
You mean Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. You guys got the wrong logo
Can y’all please put a FORWARD K5HL on this thing?
Looking great! Keep up the awesome work!
Beautiful. Outstanding!!👍
Definitely one of the better ones in my opinion
When are you going to Horner the pennsylvania railroad csx
CSX has moved to Texas!!!
*The Paint skin looks like the Texan Flag (kinda)*
i am super stoked that you guys are doing these heritage liveries but i dislike that you only do a partial. some of the nose art is what makes these schemes and it looks terrible with the csx blue on the front. we all know its a csx so why ruin the paint job with that?
This train was caught yesterday in the waycross csx yard.
I like this one I lot got to be #3 or 4 on my list
I hope BNSF or UP will have the privilege to operate that locomotive to California.
They need the black stripe across the top to make it look more like the circus paint scheme
Love it! The paint job is EPIC, it actually almost looks like the Texas flag believe it or not.
My family had 2 generations at the WM and my dad hired with Chessie. Very excited to see this happen!
I like it only because it looks like the texas flag
Something tells me it’s gonna have a K5HL
great job CSX! whats the next unit? penssalvania?
The Pere Marquette Unit is Next
I will call this Heritage Unit, the Texas Unit.
Why cant they do like ns has done with thiers i hate the reg scheme on the front. Theyd look even better imo
we getting pan ar or guilford??
Pan Am and Boston and Maine were on a list of planned units I saw. But I'm almost positive that list is fake. It included MKT witch has nothing to do with CSX. But I'd expect them/hoping they do B&M , Maine Central, Gilford and Pan am since CSX did buy out Pan am. It would make sense to honor them.
Cool
Again with the fade… CSX, paint the entire heritage unit!
Awesome looks great .😊😊👍👍
When are we going to see a Maine Central heritage unit?
They may not do one. I did see Boston and Maine and Pan am on a list of planned units but I'm almost positive that list is fake. But I'm hoping they do Boston and Maine , Maine Central, Gilford, and Pan am. It would make sense because CSX bought out Pan AM. And pan am wouldn't have existed without the other three.
Another great heritage unit. Thank you!
Noice
It reminds me of the Texas flag
This is awesome!
Glad to see the WM being represented finally! Their red and white color scheme is a favorite of mine and this unit this completes the main Chessie System family of railroads! Keep it up guys! Looking forward to more Heritage Unit projects soon!
Czechia flag locomotive.
Let's make CSX get 100K subs
Wait pere Marquette is next?
It looks like the Texas flag 💀
15282 Graham Hollow
I see CSX all the time at national turnpike they go fast or slow (Fun Fact) The railroad crossing gate is equipped with a train detection system that senses the presence of a train.
I was excited for this one the most.
(I thought it looked like the Texas flag as well.)
This heritage unit looks very nice. Can't wait for the foamers to complain about the nose.
06706 Lou Valleys
Woah, that’s quite an interesting paint job. Approved.
Now that’s what I’m talking about 👍👍🥳🥳👏👏👏👏
The new gevo looks dope
Okay, while most of the CSX heritage units were, not so great.
I will say this one has a special place in my heart. As well as the B&O, and the C&O one.
So I need to see a video of all the newly painted heritage units together CSX!! Definitely wanna know how many are there together and it would be great to show how far back the history goes from former big/small railroads that helped build/shape the United States as time went on to forming CSX today
Why did you guys use the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad fireball? I just noticed that, was it intentional or?
My grandpappy worked for the Western Maryland back in the days of steam in the Connellsville area.
Awesome engine! Can’t wait to see it hauling freight
YEEHAW TEXAS
@CSX for the last 4 weeks I had a feeling that the WM unit was gonna be out next....how did I guess right?😮
