I was skeptical about using such sharp blades on my head as I have sensitive skin and have been using Gillette skingurd for a few months but took the plunge after Christmas as the cost of cartridges was getting too much. I'm so glad I did, i went straight to the astra platinum blades, and what a shave, no irritation, super smooth shave, the initial outlay at 79.99 was a bit of a hit but in the long run it's so much cheaper. I would highly recommend the leaf.
I just finished my second shave with my new Leaf razor! Very good shave, gets my stamp of approval! Lol Astra blades are arriving tomorrow so I’m anxious to try those out. Thanks for the review, I bought it because of this.
Mate, I can't thank you enough. I have been fighting my receding hairline for years. Ever since first spotting it at the age of roughly 21, I knew my hairline was diminishing. It wasn't really a conscious thing until I turned 22/23 and realized that it was indeed receding at the front! I tried covering it up, doing every undercut haircut imaginable and was happy with that for a while. I tried going for a buzz cut 2,5 years ago, but I didn't like it as I had no beard and looked 12. I didn't get good reactions too and my girlfriend at the time had the following reaction: "oh Nathan, why?" and "If you wear the hat, you are Nathan again". So that was quite demoralizing to say the least haha! So I had more undercut hairstyles from age 23,5 to 26 now and I was quite happy with it. However, after having tried an undercut manbun with the receding hairline, something in me asked the question: "Now that you have a full beard, how will it look with a buzz cut?". So I pulled the long hair back and just looked at my head with the buzzed undercut sides. I took a photo of it and looked at it. I liked what I saw. I kept pondering on it for a couple of weeks. During the last 6 to 12 months I have constantly had my hair in my mind. Is it covered up? Is it not showing the spots where it isn't growing? By all the Gods, it is windy outside, people will see it! Then with the man bun undercut style, I had this one piece of hair that couldn't get in the bun, only if I made it wet so it would stick to the rest of the hair. I kept it at the side, jamming it to the rest of my hair constantly. If it let go, you could see that that little piece covered basically an area of no hair at all. It must have looked comical. It was always in the back of my mind, it drained me. Two weeks ago I was sitting in the train, thinking about my hair once again and I came across your videos on TH-cam. I watched many of them and it was then and there in the train, that I looked outside of the window. It was pitch black and all you could see was my own reflection, but funnily enough not my hair! Only my face and the shape of my head. At that very moment, I decided I would do it. I would buzz my head. I was so done with it! I said "Fuck it!". So I did it and it was such a HUGE relief. I had multiple feelings when I watched the final result. I liked it but it was also a big step. I had left the top somewhat longer and the sides shorter as the undercut was before. I went to my girlfriend (other girlfriend nowadays :)) and she complemented me on that it looks good and that she likes it. My coworkers and others complemented me too and said that it looks good on me. They said I can handle the look, I can take it! The first week I was sort of in between and having days where I liked it and days where I felt I had made a mistake. Now, two weeks in, I have just buzzed it to one lenght (3mm) and I like it a lot. I can't thank you enough for your videos and your motivation and your encouragement. I had a hard time with this for years but you helped me in so many ways (in one 2 hour train ride and a dozen of your videos mind you!). One thing I realized once I took it off is that there are so many other more important things I want to focus on! For example health, dreams, financial freedom and for example family. Hair is a minuscule thing in my life, I can have so many other things that can make me shine, make me attractive and resolute as a man! I feel like a burden has been lifted out of my head (and off my head lol). It also made me realize that my hairline isn't even that bad, I just made it more and more bad in my head. So the buzzed look looks good. Perhaps one day I will grow it out again, but up until now I love rocking this buzzed look with the beard. I even caught myself thinking this afternoon: "I can't imagine living without a beard, living without hair on my head is easy". I would have cried at living without my hair a year ago! Thank you my friend. You have made such a positive impact on my life. Know what you are doing is helping others! Praise you by all the Gods!

It's exactly why I started Bald Cafe so Congratulations! glad you managed to build the courage and take that step and like you said now you can go on and focus on the things that are really important in life. 👍 best of luck to you man, Stay in touch 👍
i laughed so hard at the reaction of your former girlfriend hahaha i wonder what you said to her reaction, what was your response? Or did you just put a hat on and listen to her
Been clipping my head for 14 years but took the big change over xmas....14 years lost! What a truly fantastic razor this, anyone using cartridges who has confidence with a blade needs to try this. I fobbed the leaf blades off after one shave as like you they tugged like crazy. Chucked 3 feather blades in and boom! I've got some astra blue on order but tbh the feathers are mentally close so I don't see how they can be beaten. Time will tell. Love changing it up!
You may want to try going with the grain for the first go and then for the second go against the grain. I find this makes going against the grain so much smoother and easier.
Thank you. Been following your bids for a while. And finally made the plunge on buying a leafshave razor. I did it because of not just the use of plastic I wont be throwing out anymore but also there is so many razors that when I ask my wife to pick some up she gets the same brand but they can be so different and the last one she got was just awful. So made the plunge. Just tried it 5 min ago and it is fantastic. Thank you for your videos and reviews. This was well worth the purchase.
Cool stuff bro. Idk if you’ve gotten this comment yet but your lathers seem to be lacking in moister/slickness. I’d try adding a little more water, it will increase slickness, glide, protection and lather volume. Cheers from a wet shaver.
You’ve convinced me, I’m going to pull the trigger on this razor. I’ve been using the Gillette Mach 3 cartridge razor for the past five years. This looks like something I will really like. I’ve just discovered your channel great content!
I only did one shave with the supplied blades, then switched out with Perma Sharp blades. What a difference! Still trying to perfect blade positioning. Just did a head shave with two blades stacked in the middle slot and it was extremely close and comfortable with zero knicks
Hello from Antalya. I have just bought the Leaf for my head shaves and it's great. I think why you are feeling tuggy at the back of your head is that your lather looks way too dry.
feel like i was lied to with this product, bought it, shit shave, thought maybe it's their blades, bought some high end blades i've used before, still rough patches, got to say i've gotten better shaves with those jail style prison razors, and less irritation. I gave it time, 3 weeks, different types of oil/gel/just water, on top of that the razor handle is slicker than an oil spill, hang on for dear life. I was looking forward to this razor because I have been looking for something cost effective for shaving the head. I hate to go back to the 5 blade cartridge but i'm getting a better shave with em.
I have used the leaf razor a Month for shaving my head with 3 different brands of blades and to my dissapointment, after every shave, i have ended up with heavily irritated skin and small to big cuts. I have never experienced this kind of problems with cartridge razors in the past. I really wanted this to work because I was tired of paying €20'- for 10 Gillette razor cartridges. But right now I'm in bed with a head that feels like a pack of wild cats pulled the skin back surrounded with bloody toiletpapier to match and I look at my €100,- razor, I look at my life and I wonder where it all went wrong.
How you doin, mate? Have you resolved the issue or have you switched to something else? I'm considering getting the twig for both head and face shaving but the steep price increase for simply being in Europe is making me a little cautious :(
Try the Henson AL13 for great head shaves men, it's awesome ! The Henson AL 13 is a DE safety razor that is nearly impossible to nick yourself with. It shaves more like a cartridge razor than the Leaf and a LOT less likely to cut you. If you buy a leaf razor for head shaving buy the leaf twig.
Have you considered a straight razor (typically a 5/8" hollow ground?) There's a learning curve, but once mastered, you get a very smooth, controlled & comfortable shave.
You never master a straight razor on your own head if you dont have 15-20 minutes to spare. Multi-blade cartridge is so much faster and safer with the same closeness.
Great video! I'm glad you tried different blades in it, I was wondering how big of a difference it made with this type of razor. Sounded a little strange when you just had 1 Astra in there, but glad it got redemption.
currently I'm also using the Gilette Fusion Pro Glide, but damn, these cartridges are expensive and I only get like 3-5 shaves out of them before they start feeling dull, so I'll give this Leaf razor a shot I guess...
Definitely a thing with double edge blades is to find ones that work the best for you, not all are great for everyone. I have heard good things about the Leaf, a blend between double edge and cartridges
Martin Klein Yeah I will invest in one for the future. I actually bought one before but was really dissatisfied with it. I’ll have to get the Rode Link perhaps for the Sony version but for anything good its like £400/500
Great video harry! How would you compare it to the headblade moto? Im asking because i ordered the headblade moto(Arriving tomorrow) & if i dont like it then imma invest money into the leaf razor. I been thru more razors trying to find one that dont clog or irritate my skin.
Out of all of them I probably like the head blade best. The leaf shave is a totally different design slough with the customisation of it, that could be a good option for you with the sensitivity issue.

Can anyone vouch for the longevity of the blades used in a leaf razor? Do they give as many shaves compared to a double edge or single edge? Or even cartridge razors for that matter? How many shaves the blades split in half in a leaf razor give until getting full? These are pressing questions right?
I bought a $6 Wilkinson sword classic DE safety razor and its better than this in my opinion. I'll have a full video up soon but in short I think persistence is KEY for using a DE safety razor for head shaving. I tried an tried and it sucked but once I got the technique down its awesome now.
Hi I've just started shaving my head with a wilkinson sword classic DE razor and can't get a bbs shave. I get a bbs shave with a cartridge razor but its very expensive. Would it be worth trying this leaf shave or could trying different blades in my DE razor be worth a try? Your channel is fantastic btw!
If you’re using a razor that requires a wet shave with some sort of shaving cream - go a shaving brush and shaving soap 👌👌 game changer. I’ve used a few soaps in the past Proraso was pretty good and seems pretty available. Yeah getting a decent shaving brush was key to the wet shave that’s for sure
Iv just switched to a shavent similar thing to the leaf it’s good on my head but it’s still not getting as close as a pro glide does I also use a safety razor. my pro glide blades are lasting longer just using them for my final pass and removing the bulk with a safety or the shavent on the first one or 2 passes
Nice video, im debating whether to use minoxidil on my beard, my goatee grows strong, my cheeks have full coverage but the hairs are thinner, any advice? My hair is quite fair so in sunlight the beard is strong butnot as strong inside, thanks
Djtrickyyy how old are you? With my experience with minoxidil on the beard to put it simply I don’t think it’s worth it.
The Gillette fusion is miles better than leaf razor. I regret buying mine. I’m waiting on the astra blades to give it another try but if those don’t cut it I’m going to see if I can return it.
What do you prioritize in terms of your razor? The Gillette is a very simple out of the box product for sure. I just couldn’t justify the cost and how wasteful it feels using one cartridge for 3-4 head shaves then changing. I did adjust my shaving technique a little with the leaf too. I no longer go mad with short shaving strokes trying to get the job done ASAP. I take my time with it a bit more, enjoy it more if you like 😂 long easy strokes 👍 hopefully those Astras will help you out a bit. All the best.
@@BaldcafeThanks for the reply. I have never used no other razor than the Gillette fusion till I got the leaf razor. Perhaps I do need to take my time and look at it on the long run by saving money on blades because those Gillette ain’t cheap 😂. I did base my comparison on the speed of the shave which isn’t a big deal. I really like the design of the leaf razor. Can’t wait to try it with the astra blades.
I keep trying fancy shit but always go back to 99 cent equates .. i dont like all that flexibility use a&d and just scrape it the fuck off .. it gets gunked up but never any irritation just wipe the blade with tissue and push it all through 🤷♂️ nothing has come close yet .. ill give this thing a try but when its all flexy like that i feel like i have know control
I don't like life razor! I like only Gillette fusion proglide flexball o proshield o head blade moto, because for sensitive skin and super super smooth! But beautifully video!

If you like the flexibility feature go for the leaf, otherwise you're better off the twig
For face is this better or the twig is good enough? Heard for leaf razor 3 blade it’s difficult under the nose?
Twig is better for the Face ID say
Are you still using this product? I’m thinking of purchasing it, I’m a big fan of Gillette Fusion Proglide. Would you say it’s worth the investment?
I bought a $6 Wilkinson sword classic DE safety razor and its better than this in my opinion. I'll have a full video up soon but in short I think persistence is KEY for using a DE safety razor for head shaving. I tried an tried and it sucked but once I got the technique down its awesome now.
Thanks a lot for your help!
@@Baldcafe Are you still using a DE as your primary razor?
Is there another option in the market where you can also buy the blades? other brands?
Yeah lots of other blades available on amazon etc. I went for a big box of Astra Platinums seeing as they had good reviews.
How was this razor after you got used to it? I'm stuck between a saftey razor, cart, and this
What’s your favorite shaving soap/cream??
If you’re using a razor that requires a wet shave with some sort of shaving cream - go a shaving brush and shaving soap 👌👌 game changer. I’ve used a few soaps in the past Proraso was pretty good and seems pretty available. Yeah getting a decent shaving brush was key to the wet shave that’s for sure
Good video
So with a blade system like this you want to do with then across then against. If you start out against you will get pulling/ tugging
Yeah I went in hard with this one. I wanted to compare it to my cartridge razor so I used my regular technique. I'll know for next time thanks 👍
Hey mate. Would you still recommend the leaf razor now that a year has passed?? Do u still use it?
I would brother. I have exciting things coming with them soon. It’s a long term shaving investment 👍
With my experience with minoxidil on the beard to put it simply I don’t think it’s worth it.
what about the omnishave? how does the omni stack up against the gillette or this? thanks =)
I would rank them Gillette > Omnishave > This , However they are 3 very different products but if I needed to rate them that is how I would do it 👍
Is this easy for face shave?
Not a fan of stick razors. It all goes with what your comfortable with.
I really want to love this one.
Can’t wait to try it with the astra blades.
the Gypsy King doing a razor review; good stuff
Man did you experienced low libido during minox?
No had no problems with sex drive.
5:18 looks like there is another hand helping him
I keep trying fancy shit but always go back to 99 cent equates .. i dont like all that flexibility use a&d and just scrape it the fuck off .. it gets gunked up but never any irritation just wipe the blade with tissue and push it all through 🤷♂️ nothing has come close yet .. ill give this thing a try but when its all flexy like that i feel like i have know control
Try the twig razor by the same company. It’s my preferred one now and no flexy
I don't like life razor! I like only Gillette fusion proglide flexball o proshield o head blade moto, because for sensitive skin and super super smooth! But beautifully video!
A lot of Gillette fans here in the comments. I think I should do a tour of their facility.
@@Baldcafe yes i like Gillette fusion proglide prosheld flexball bicause i m not irritazion, cuts, razor burn! And very smooth! And i like headblade moto hb6 and headslick. For me is queek shave,i like ! And i like your video. In the video your hair is very strong! For me first step is shower 5-10 minut hair with massage scalp.
U need to rinse the blade more often
Can you do the defender razor thanks brother
I will likely get around to this but I’m going to try and get the razor without signing up for anything 👍
Just ordered it 👍
Thanks brother
What is the best razor you use for your head
Gilette all the way🤙🏽
The best a man can get?
use a feather blade, said to be the sharpest, Astra isint that sharp,
I’ve seen a few varieties mentioned. Any particular brand?
@@Baldcafe sorry my late reply no Any feather some say that KAI blades are even sharper i dont know
Still using it?

Just order it with feather Safety razor.making the switch from gilette skinguard.hope is worth it because i’m addicted to this gilette.will see.
@@trrtarara9925 how it works?
I got tired of shaving my head. In my opinion maintaining that clean look is a pain in the neck. I will just wear a hat.
Didn't enjoy the regular shaves?
@@Baldcafe the machines feel better but when I shave I feel like I'm damaging my scalp. I guess I'm too sensitive I'm just gonna keep a short dark cut and go with the hat look for now.
Bserle shi bala ma 2a3ref m bro de8re bta3ref eza sarlak Shi trust yourself.
