Funny how they went above and beyond for HGSS and they ended up being one of the most beloved Pokémon games to this day.
Thank goodness for their efforts.. Makes me resent the DP remakes more now though I know they were made by a different company but still..
Even the notes around just giving them HD upscale would be doing a disservice but they ended up letting that happen to diamond and Pearl.
And now you see what they did with the DP remakes 🤦♂️

Honestly, the Starfy cameo in Super Princess Peach is super hilarious to me; like, his disguise here is just as clever as Superman claiming to be a different person while wearing glasses. Hilarity!
I remember watching my older brother play the N64 version. Years later I got to experience the game on my DS. One of the most fun games I played on that handheld.
I’ve been waiting for an episode on Game! And having Person narrate it is genuinely a fantastic choice!

I'll never forget the first time I played Game as a kid, it introduced me to so many concepts and gameplays that defined my gamer career. I'm so glad DYKG and Person gave it the coverage it deserves
I'll never forget the ending of game. Character's death made me see life in a different way.
I'll never forget the climax of game. The twist was one of the most shocking I have ever seen in a video game. After I beat the game as a kid, I was so sad (and still am) about the ending
@@he1274Enemy’s death was horrible. Evil doesn’t go unpunished. Game is still in my top 10 games of all time.

12:24 i can answer that. When you don't have the assets, you use placeholders to set the "mood" of the scene, and then later the actual assets can be more easily made by just showing to the other team "hey, this is what we're going for, make something along these lines".

hearing that not only was G&S was such a special game for Gamefreak back then and because of that they put so much time and effort on the remakes, but that they also put the Heart and Soul names in the titles to communicate this feeling of affection with Pokemon as a whole, really filled the soul of the younger side of Me with such joy
Since vinyl records have sold so well in the last few years, there is now a 10-20 year gap of people who never used a record player, so now younger people are MORE likely to use one. In most stores today the vinyl section is twice the size of the CD one, if not bigger, which hasn't been the case for nearly 40 years
Vinyls are twice the size of CDs, if not more.
I hate vinyls. Madonna released American Life remixes exclusively for RSD in VINYL format and because of that I had to pass on that album.
@@jendorei i'm talking selection, not just space. They are the size of 4 CDs but only 1/2 as thick. I'm old enough to remember long-box CDs, which were made to use the same displays that held records. Both Walmart and Target have exclusive colors or versions, which collectors snag. Also it's nice to have a copy to listen to since original pressings are skyrocketing in value.

You really don’t appreciate how much better it sounds compared to cd’s and MP3 files, do you?

21:20 Probably worth noting that Kingdom Hearts Coded was originally a mobile game on the NTT docomo service (a lot of old Japanese mobile games were) which was released episodically.
I swear Totaka's Tune is just a Horcrux. that creepy tune is hidden in so many places that that guy will never die.
when mario 64 came out on the DS, I was blown away that it was possible to put a game like that on handheld, and have it run so well.

@MarthOfHyrule and by "half-as*ed" you mean the games took lot more effort to make after Gen 5 because everythings in 3D now but that leads to less content because the development time is still the same so fans pretend they are just lazy now, heck the perfect example for that is XY as those are the games with most effort put into it in the entire series yet those are also some of the most content lacking games in the series as well...

I played since Emerald. I remember being 14 and playing black and white on my crappy windows PC through an emulator. Even though it was slow and buggy, it still became my favorite Pokémon game.
@@caspay21 Both games have become cult classics in recent years. But, as someone who has played every mainline Gen 4 game, y'all are probably better off with those emulators; those games can feel sluggish without the 4x speed.

I love the supposed Mario Party 3 reference in DS, though to clarify the music you played was "What to do?" not "Let's Get a move on"
It's very wholesome for larger channels like Person to narrate for smaller channels like DYKG.

The last fact about pokemon taking 3 years to develop just so we get a good game really dampens my heart since they seemed to have changed their attitude to making recent pokemon games
More likely that they have stricter deadlines pushed on them by The Pokémon Company to have the games released on a schedule that aligns with the anime and TCG's schedules.
Scarlet and Violet had multiple glitches that even most smaller dev teams wouldn't let happen (like using 2 controllers to double your character's speed). No studio WANTS to release games in that state, it's pretty clear that it's an outside source.
Dude I bet working at game freak is hell, I just know the Pokémon company will never give them enough time for their games. We already saw how much potential they have recently with legends
AAA games nowadays typically take 4-7 years to make and that's with teams of hundreds of people as well. GameFreak don't have that time or that size team, so their games are going to be lackluster.
Welcome to the _No Man's Sky_ era, where every developer knows Stockholm syndrome will get them praise for releasing unfinished crud and 50% patching it up later.
Ah, Game. I played it when I was a young child and have so many memories with it. I revisited in my later childhood years and made even more. In my adulthood I would play it at work. I am now approaching my middle-adulthood and my memories with Game will always stick with me.
It's wild to find Game and Person in the same video, but we already knew DYKG is capable of miracles

I'm happy that Cing made the decision to make Hotel Dusk (and Last Window) vertical games. It's such a unique mechanic and Cing was really great at doing unique things with their games. I think both games would be quite less interesting (but still definitely a must play) if you didn't play them in a vertical style.

It's also worth noting that in the English version of Dawn of Sorrow, Zephyr says "Star Platinum" referencing Jotaro instead of DIO
The DS is such a great handheld. It has become my favorite over the years. So many hidden gems and RPGs.

Apart from my dad's original Gameboy and N64 the DS was my first gaming system and it will always be special to me. I bought a DSi a year ago and was surprised to find out how well many of the games hold up, although a lot of them suffered from devs trying to include touch more than made sense. But still it's one of the few systems where emulation doesn't come close to original hardware since it's so unique.

But they *_ALSO_* remade The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Link’s Awakening for the 3DS and Switch, respectively. They were given *TIME* by Nintendo to develop these three games, and 2/3 were great remakes! The Pokémon Company doesn’t give even their third party developers the proper amount of time to make quality games anymore, you either do it under their absurd time crunch, or you don’t work.
