I will not stand for this slander of my boy, Finis Valorum. He was a decent politician who was trying to hold the Republic together in difficult times, made all the worse by the Sith running around setting fire to everything they could, but doing it's secretly so it could never be traced back to them. He was outnumbered and outplayed in the Senate. Let us not forget that he sent the Jedi to negotiate an end to the Naboo Crisis, a move which forced Palpatine to act more aggressively by having the Jedi killed (which failed) and invading Naboo. After he left office, Valorum was sure Palpatine had engineered the whole thing, but couldn't prove it.
Remember my friends. Hope, even a fools hope, can be nourished and nurtured into a flame. So do not lose hope. We will weather this storm, and we will come out the other side better for it.

The Courts too. He probably had the constitution changed to give him the ability to directly hand out political appointments to them, which could in turn shield him from legal challenges. And considering the type of system, and that he had already extended the normal term limits for the office, he probably took advantage over losses in his “majority” coalition in the Senate to call for new elections and then arrange for something to happen, during the election campaign period, and spin that into as “proof” for the need to his policies or why his policies work. Like say he was tough on crime or dissidents out in the Expanse Region, time some big event or flare up to happen during the election, which changes the narrative on why now is most critical time to show strength against such. All a sudden, the tide turns to his favor and his coalition wins more seats then they had before, and they overwhelmingly support his candidacy for chancellor and even the opposite is reluctant to put up much a united front against him or his policies. So, once he secures the Chancellorship, he takes advantage of that by pressing for constitutional changes and appointments to his political buddies.

Hey Alan could you do a video on what would happen if the republic didn’t become the empire and the cis was able to leave the republic and become their own government would that have been a sustainable future for the galaxy?
Great video. Great message. Sound advice. My concern: the incredible number of individuals whose mental capabilities are hindered by (perhaps) natural intellectual weaknesses, or lifelong negative conditioning by ignorant and/or malevolent influence(s), or any other of various factors that prevent these people from the ability to recognize or otherwise understand when such things as misinformation or other forms of destructive activities are being implemented, often as means to dupe and control these types of individuals into committing acts that cause suffering to not only others but even themselves. Suffering they experience but are deceived into believing that the suffering is being caused by those who actually are (often times) fighting against the true source(s) of the suffering. I.e., it's why Governor Price (and others) continually painted the rebels as evil, even though the rebels only had the best interests of Lothal (and the wider galaxy at large via the Alliance to Restore the Republic) in mind when acting. As well, for the most part, the rebels always did as best they could to prevent more suffering to the local populations which was in direct contrast to the Empire's actions. The Rebels fought the Empire as a means of trying to protect the populous; the Empire fought the Rebels by inflicting more pain and suffering to the populous, and, unfortunately, many of the ignorant/brainwashed populous cheered the Empire and condemned the Rebels.
I think separating the republic executive to a president that is elected by individual elections from each planet would be good. The senate devolved into corruption so quickly having the executive based on the people is good.
