🙂 Yes, definitely get either a 750ti, 950, 960; the added benefit is more 'compatibility' choices with these cards because their video output is both Digital and Analog, so if ur on a tight budget u can use an old VGA only monitor to hold u over, Second reason is if u are living in the 3rd world most budget monitors are still Analog only, Third Reason is these video cards have mac drivers support so they will work in dual boot if u find an old mac pro tower 🍎
Jeez. Worse bait and switch ever. Thank you Nvidia. I haven't been keeping up with graphics cards all that much. I have you to thank for keeping me in the loop with all things hardware :)
One interesting fact about this card is because its bandwidth is so low with the 64-bit bus width it is possible to run it on a 1x slot without bottlenecking.
A key thing that people forget about the GTX 1030 is that it is an excellent HTPC GPU for 4k TVs. It is one of the few options for users to have access to HDMI 2.0 which allows 4k @60hz at a low TDP, size, and cost.
I use passive cards on my development machine. I have a Radeon and an NVidia, both chipsets are quite old, but you can get them still in the retail box for $50 or less. I use both since sometimes I need the Radeon for a specific reason. The drivers are in the kernel, since the chipsets are ancient. The 1030 looks interesting, since it's a new card and would fit the bill for a standard desktop environment with heavy desktop effects with light gaming, Xonotic would probably run quite well. I like passive discrete cards, because there are no fans to break or hear and they do not share system RAM.
I did buy the GDDR5 version of this card (PNY) for one reason: I put it in a small-form-factor HP for running older games and CS:GO (I have the system set up to dual-boot between Windows and Linux). For that purpose it's doing its job fine so far.
Please if anyone could help me..... Yesterday I bought a Gt 1030, previous I had a Gts 450, I updated my drivers and deleted my old drivers yet my 1030 still runs like a 1030 Specs: AsusPrimeB350E motherboard 500W Bronze PSU 8GBDDR4 AmdRyzen51400 1TB
I have Actively cooled GT 1030 from early last year and it ran Mine Craft on fancy with 32 chunks at 720p smoothly. I like it gaming performance over the integrated A10 7860k graphics and I notice a huge improvement on the games I play with my media PC that I installed it in. I like the small size and power sipping characteristics of this card and very happy I snagged a DDR5 version when they first came out. Thanks Matt for the review
From a great 1030 owner who bought the card because it was the only card in stock during the shortage. Just spend a little more for a gtx 1050. Unless you just want to play esports and older games and can find one for a super low sale. Size s not even a good reason as you can find a GTX 1050/1050 ti in low profile versions.
GT 1030 is completely fine for light/casual gaming, however, I would NOT recommend a passively cooled card in systems with bad airflow, like SFF Optiplexs. Get one with a fan on it, yes it will make some noise but the card will thank you that it can actually breathe.
Works great in my emulation pc. I got mine for $60 about a year ago, used it in my server for basic output for a while then moved over to the emulation station. Perfect for GameCube, WII or older consoles.
You should test out video encoding, which they can all do in hardware, and using GPU for video encoding usually boost it a lot, so people not interested in gaming might still find a 1030 interesting, but I guess you can test the same 3 cards and see if a better card makes a difference?
Displayport and HDMI for dual displays, low power consumtion, silent... The perfect card for music production - perhaps the best one available even as we approach 2021.
For me this card worked great. Its a DDR5 Asus OC but obviously still nothing to write home about. Unless you have a 8 year old Dell with a small PSU whos CPU was overheating too easily, the insainly low power useage helped quite a lot. It uses less than half the power but has twice the performance of my very old card. I'm pretty sure it is heavily bottlenecked by my moboards bus speeds and the Q6600 but I got to turn the outlines back on LOL and it is running fine with things set to medium, no AA but it was a big upgrade for very little money for this old beast. While I was at it I also added a horrifically bottlenecked SSD so its a differnt PC now. I will chuck my SSD in a new build later this year, but as an emergancy stop gap to stop my PC overheating while I save up for a new build. I might chuck it in the new build and wait a month or 2 to get a GTX 1070 or maybe even 1080 (though I'm not looking at 4k anytime soon so I might pass on the GTX1080). The GT 1030 has been really useful for my needs.
I did not even know about the cut down 1030. I'd like to see how much worse it is than the standard version. The GPU market is just insane right now. When will the madness stop?
The GT 1030 is best use for a HTPC for 4k 60hz support. That is where it's value is worth it for the price. The 750 lacks HDMI 2.0 support and therefore lacks 4k 60hz support.
Just get a Ryzen 2000 series APU. It's basically between the 1050 and 1050 ti performance wise, and you can run a smaller footprint. If you need something like a 1060 6gb or more, just get the Ryzen 2000 series APU and save up for a better graphics card in the future.
As of Nov 2018, price of 1030(GDDR% version) came back down and can be found for around $75. In my experience, GFX add-in-cards have relatively short lifespan, so I wouldn't consider buying used.
I imagine that this gt1030 is still a good step up from just intel integrated graphics alone. I think the ddr4 version could be called the gt 1020 or 1010, or could be 1030 if you think of it like two people have the same rank job, ex assistant store manager, but one recieves a higher pay than the other. Of course in my desktop, I have an Intel core i7-4770k cpu with a gtx 1080 gpu, not the ti version, but I guess still a powerful graphics card.
When the Radion HD 6850 i bought 5 years ago decided to die on thanks giving day, and only having a $100 to spend, i ordered the ASUS PH-GT1030-O2G GeForce GT 1030 2GB Phoenix Fan OC Edition on amazon for $80ish. if i had more money i probably would have spent more but a nice find in my price range. runs better than my old card did before the crash, notice stuff in games that were never there with my old card. so not bad for a budget upgrade.

Hey Matt, Do You Recommend the gt 1030 if you have a pc with a 275 power supply because I bought a Dell Optiplex 7010 Intel i5 8GB RAM And I’m not sure if I should try and go for a gtx 750 or play it safe and go with the gt 1030 Great Video btw
Matt, Is this MSI GT 1030 DDR4 and ASUS GT1030 DDR5 are same ? I just bought ASUS GT 1030 from Newegg to pair with Ryzen 5 3600. Please advice me ....????
It's not entirely true that the active and passive cooled versions have the same clocks. AFAIK the new Geforce cards automatically adjust their clocks to the temperature, meaning if the temperature is worse, then so are the clocks. I don't know if that's actually the case, tough. As for the DDR4 version: It has a 10w lower TDP and it's cheaper, so it's not a total insanity... however, I think it would be more honest to call it 1020, GS 1030 or something like that. The price increase... well... it's hard to call out the Nvidia GT1030 on that when it's the same on basically everything else you can run games (or mine) with.
I plan to use the 1030 passive cooled for desktop usage (2x 1440p). This should be feasible for browsing/youtube right? I'm running a Linux system and play games in a virtual machine (using another GPU). I will probably build a new computer using the new Ryzens so I need another dedicated desktop GPU for my linux host system. I'd really like to have a passively cooled GPU and I'd pay a "premium" for that
or look at the sticker on the back. unless it's been removed, it should say if it's GDDR5 or DDR4 and if you are buying new, then the item description will tell you
if you're already spending around $100, you should definitely consider the GTX 950 or GTX 960 used for around $80 or $90, it offers near 1050 performance or slightly better, far more worth it!
hey I’m not really looking for a card to run games, but my onboard graphics card lag on a video editing software and I’m a content creator, do you think the gt 1030 would run fine for video editing
We need a all in one with a 8 core. Running 4 of the cores at 4GHz and 4 at 1 or 2 GHz. With a Gen 3 PCI-E x16 with enough PCI lanes left over for a M.2 SSD.
Used gtx 750ti in my area are 140+ euro used so the only choice was either the 1030 or a 1050 which was going to be bottlenecked by my cpu. Its a pretty bomber card for ultra budget 720p gaming and since it replaced a gt430 for me its a pretty big ramp up in performance. Witcher 3 is more than playable with 40+ on mostly high or high-ulta 30fps capped. For 1080p its a definite no for sure but in my case and many others in a tight af budget its honestly an amazing card
It's a great card for those who only wish to play older games. Any game before the 2010s should run maxed out 1080p@60fps (save for maybe Crysis and a few badly optimized games).
I don’t think Nvidia markets the 1030 for gaming anyway. They start gaming marketing with the 1050 and you can see this on the Nvidia website. The 1030 is more suited to 4K home theatre purposes. So it’s important to note that the 1030 has an HDMI 2.0b port whereas the 750 does not.
You can play just about anything on 720p/768p with the gt1030 with decent graphic options, playing watch dogs 2 on medium with it right now, I just had to turn on temporal filtering and put shadows on low. Getting around 40FPS. (on 768p)
I want to update my wife's computer. It's a Dell computer from 2015 with and i3, 8gb. Would you recommend this? She wants to play dauntless on medium settings
Im about to pull the trigger on a GT 1030 (ddr5) and I only play Counterstrike CSGO on an i5 with 16gigs of ram. Is it fast enough and will I be happy with it.
I may buy this for MMOs only like WoW and Guild wars 2, will I be able to obtain 50-60 fps at medium settings at least? I don't mind if I get 30 fps during raids and I plan on playing in 720-900p, my specs are an i5 3470, 8gb ddr3 ram, windows 10
I have 2 of the gddr5 ones. Its pretty much the only game in town, if you want a silent card that does UHD well, and has only modern connectors. But Im not a gamer. I have one in my media center, and one in my dev-box. Both drives UHD-screens perfectly @60Hz over 5 meters of DP and HDMI cables. What other card could i buy instead?
@@toolucky3507 dude honestly I love it, I rockthe r7 3700x alongside it and it’s a beasts, majority high ultra settings in Cold War I pull 120+ FPS sometimes up to 180 depending on the maps and it’s a great card, plays doom on 200 FPS max settings like the things a champ if go for it bro
It’s worth it because the ddr4 version is a wicked card. And it overclocks. Paired with a decent i3 or Ryzen 5 it can play fortnite on ultra at 30 FPS.
Why not just get that ryzen which comes with the built in gpu. It has a gpu as strong as this 1030 and they cost the same I think. Also you get both a decent cpu and gpu in one price.

Great video! What’s the gaming keyboard that you were using in this video!
What stuff did you notice.
@@theopulentone1573 flags where there were no flags before, more derailed backgrounds, plants growing in once barren farms. Basic things from being able to run games at higher settings
Hey Matt, Do You Recommend the gt 1030 if you have a pc with a 275 power supply because I bought a Dell Optiplex 7010 Intel i5 8GB RAM And I’m not sure if I should try and go for a gtx 750 or play it safe and go with the gt 1030
Great Video btw
I'd really like to have a passively cooled GPU and I'd pay a "premium" for that
or look at the sticker on the back. unless it's been removed, it should say if it's GDDR5 or DDR4
and if you are buying new, then the item description will tell you
Well...It's 2018 and I am still running Intel HD graphics 4000 with 1.6 GB onboard ram and it's running fine...And you talk about GT 1030
And you call yourself quadcore gamer...
@@Harry_Ng 😂
@@Harry_Ng because an HD 4000 is a IGpu for a quad core Intel Cpu.
@@Harry_Ng lol jk 😂😂
Do you play games? Upgrade that shit.
Great video!
why did you not perform any Fortnite benchmarks? it's the biggest game in the world and I came here hoping to see if these could run it.
Hey, is the Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 2GB GDDR5 LP worse than the MSI you show on the video?
if you're already spending around $100, you should definitely consider the GTX 950 or GTX 960 used for around $80 or $90, it offers near 1050 performance or slightly better, far more worth it!
hey I’m not really looking for a card to run games, but my onboard graphics card lag on a video editing software and I’m a content creator, do you think the gt 1030 would run fine for video editing
Hopefully GPU prices fall with the next generation on the way. Great video as always Matt! 💪🏽🔥
Nobody uses gt 1030's for mining nividia is just greedy.
do you know what your ram speed is? it can reall affect a ryzen cpu
In terms of "just running a screen", are there any cheaper cards that have DisplayPort?
Right now I. My field of view I am running Skyrim on medium graphics at 50 FPS
Is it normal to buy it even it doesn't have a ventilateur ? Or it is a risk
there is a 2018 revision of the GT 1030, so i'd be concerned if it wasn't worth it "in 2018".
We need a all in one with a 8 core. Running 4 of the cores at 4GHz and 4 at 1 or 2 GHz. With a Gen 3 PCI-E x16 with enough PCI lanes left over for a M.2 SSD.
hello there Matt can u help me by choosing the right graphics card for my entry level 3d modelling and rendering
Will the gt 1030 need a new power supply ? I have a prebuilt pc with a low power supply
Hopefully I can pick up something like this for my channel, it would really improve my content
I’d be really interested to see how much worse the cut down version is :)
should i buy it or any alternative in same range...
the ddr4 version is selling here at local stores for around $110USD ,what a piece of scam
Ikr
Is a 400 euro prebuilt gaming pc with gt 1030, g4400 and 4 gigs of ddr4 worth it? It also has windows 10 pro and the case looks dope 👌.
I will upgrade the ram to 8 gigs
x_Melt_ x no
Hell no
Used gtx 750ti in my area are 140+ euro used so the only choice was either the 1030 or a 1050 which was going to be bottlenecked by my cpu.
Does the gt 1030 use 6 pins or 8 pins or it doesn't need pins just plug it in and install drivers.
It's a great card for those who only wish to play older games. Any game before the 2010s should run maxed out 1080p@60fps (save for maybe Crysis and a few badly optimized games).
Hi mat my name is fan, nice vid😀
🙂 sometimes the gt1030 is on sale at microcenter if it has been returned and in the 'open box' section for $50, then i guess its ok
MAkE A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE NEW AND OLD 1030 PLEASE I WANNA SEE!
Amazon now has the GDDR5 GT 1030, 6000 MHz memory, for $89. DDR4 version is $69.99
Im about to pull the trigger on a GT 1030 (ddr5) and I only play Counterstrike CSGO on an i5 with 16gigs of ram. Is it fast enough and will I be happy with it.
What about an amd card Matt in this price point?
Question:I have a Geforce 750 Ti and i wanna upgrade but i dont know what the best thing is to upgrade too.
What keyboard is that?! I really want one!
May I know the brand and model of your speakers?
What other card could i buy instead?
is the OC ver featured in this video the one with the DDR4 memory?
I'm curious of because my dad pc mobo video out died and he currently using my 1050ti. He doesn't need 4gb of gpu for browsing the internet.
Me having a 2060 watching videos about 1030: *compelling argument but I must politely decline.*
on a scale to 1/10 how good is the 2060? Somebody i know has a 3090 or a 3080 and he says that the 3080 - 3090 isnt that good
@@toolucky3507 dude honestly I love it, I rockthe r7 3700x alongside it and it’s a beasts, majority high ultra settings in Cold War I pull 120+ FPS sometimes up to 180 depending on the maps and it’s a great card, plays doom on 200 FPS max settings like the things a champ if go for it bro
@@toolucky3507 short answer I’d say 8.5/10
While both DDR4 and GDDR5 share core technologies, one is not inherently better than the other; they are both effectually equipped to serve
It’s worth it because the ddr4 version is a wicked card. And it overclocks. Paired with a decent i3 or Ryzen 5 it can play fortnite on ultra at 30 FPS.
IMPORTANT
please overclock DDR5 gt 1030 and make a video. I think that would boost performance
Why not just get that ryzen which comes with the built in gpu. It has a gpu as strong as this 1030 and they cost the same I think. Also you get both a decent cpu and gpu in one price.
Hi Tech By Matt!
Does dell optiplex same as in video will handle 1050 or 1060?
yes, i hope you still need the answer and hope this help, only the gtx 1050 btw
