- Total War Attila is experiencing a renaissance of game-changing mods, and 2024 is only the beginning! And honestly, who would've thought? Total War Attila saw only one year of expansions and DLCs, and did not initially sell very well either. But modders have taken the game to heart, and Attila now offers some of the most exciting mods of all time, which is what I'm going to show you here today.
From Rome Era to EARL's crazy gameplay tweaks, to a fricking Crusader Kings 3 implementation, Medieval Kingdoms 1212 and even Lord of the Rings, Attila just seems to offer - or is going to offer- just about anything a Total War enthusiast can want, and I'm loving it. Attila may not have the greatest of launches, but it will become the title in the future alongside Shogun 2 to carry the series onwards with mods.

For Shogun 2 there’s a mod called “Spirit of the Carlist wars” in which it attempts to Bring the Victorian style of military combat into the fall of the samurai DLC, the modders even made their own map of Iberia!
I hope not, feel like Total War is in this phase of stagnant shitty games like 3K, Troy, and Pharaoh, and never ending Attila mods 🤦♂
Dawnless Days campaign is going to send the Attila player count through the ROOF. So excited.

Attila is a solid game. Just completed a Geats campaign, which now makes me wanna do it again but as Vikings in the Age of Vikings mod.
Do WRE. Its brutal, but so much fun. Once you master a WRE playthrough though the rest of TW will feel like a sandbox vs a simulation.
If you want to play viking age mod go for anno domini more up-to-date than age of vikings mod I made a unit submod for it as well

Attila is my all time favorite Total War game. And the last real one it seems.
I tried to enjoy it many many times but it has just a poor performance even with my new rig it is not enjoyable when huge armies clash :(
Definitely one of CA's seminal pieces, I hope they steady things as nobody, Imo, has created games that have given me so many wonderful hours of mentally stimulating entertainment. And of course, props to all the modders, you are appreciated 👍
i keep saying this is the most immersive TW game.
I know Attila is VERY rough around the edges but I’ve gotten about 500 hours out of vanilla and vanilla+ alone.
It introduced me to late Roman Empire as a historical concept, which has since become the main point of my studies at university.
After countless very hard WRE attempts (I’m not a complete masochist lol) I finally got that coveted “I’m still standing” achievement about a year or two ago.
Easily one of my top 10 favorite games period.
TDDs campaign is going to blow ppls mind once it comes out. So many new mechanics created!

3:30 The biggest problem of classical empires is its 12 turns per year design, meaning that...
techs need 40 or more turns to develope
army movement got reduced to one fourth
army recruitment time got increased
The consequence is that you now have to press the end turn very often
and the gameplay is slowed down a lot.
This is honestly one of my only gripes of these historical modes (as much as I love the idea of seasons) it takes forever to do something

I swear ca is either punching the air or literally not caring. it's like that neglected child that got succesful
They released new DLC for Rome 2 after Attila was released! But yeah, they don't have a dedicated team for Attila. They seem to be splitting up the different TW's between teams. CA Sofia is making the Saga games and made the R2 DLC, which seemed to be their training, the main CA team seems to focus on Warhammer and there was a 3K team. Though with 3K 2 reportedly cancelled it's unclear what happening with them.
Playing fireforged and it's just epic. Rome Era next (eventually..)

@AndysTake Fireforged empire looks great! I'm a big fan of historical accuracy and haven't dived particularly deep in the late imperial period.
I've just bought Attila during winter sale. I love older Total War games. I never played Attila cause I'm not a biggest fan of this time period. But I'm open to it and I will finally try it soon.

1212 AD is one of the best mods I've ever played in any game. Attila is still my favorite TW after all these years.

Atilla was really the goat. Also the reason CAs been producing crap. They went in the direction we wanted, then half of us cried, NOOO ITS TOO HARD. Saddest part is its not really that hard once you understand one or two basic mechanics lol.

Don't you *dare* say "half of us". don't you dare trying to reject this on the community. people crying about attila's difficulty were a minority, and most complaint are legitimate ones like the immense lack of content and copy pasted DLCs. thank god for modders i must say. And the game felt like it could have been a DLC to rome II. Which was CA's goal, like proven in the CA leaked documents, they did low effort copy pastes with attila and then thrones of britannia. it was their literal business plan. but somehow it's muh community's fault ? explain exactly how it led to CA producing crap. go on. corpo shills will always fascinate me...

I coincidentally tried out Classical Empires recently & my biggest issue with that overhaul mod actually pertains to place naming: I saw that for Carthage, all but 1 city (Tsabrathan) start out with Latin names. For that 1 city there would be a Latin name which the mod does not use, so the question becomes what system it's intended to be. If they wanted to have the map start out with non-Latin names I could provide a list of Carthaginian settlements in their own endonymic names (or reconstructed ones that are reasonable to assume). In fact I have provided that list already in a Steam thread under the Ancient Empires workshop item.
Attila is still the Total War Game i find myself playing the most of the historical ones

It's been a while since I finished my WRE Nightmare Difficulty run, needed a good long break after that, but now I think it's time to fire up some mods.
9:10 Is that arrow thing is a submod? I play the mod for some time now but its just not there, also the arrow projectile modell from 8:36 or 9:28 are missing and i have just the much worse vanilla one. What am i doing wrong?

I returned to Attila and my first thought was i would have loved this dark grity, realistic ascetic in TW Warhammer.

one of the things that bugs me off Classic Empires is that all dudes are all the time crouching instead of walking freely. it's like slavic squat total war and god it ruins everything.

While I may love the Warhammer titles a lot more than the historical titles for Total War, there is so much Atilla did that I respect, and appreciate for, despite it's own missteps.

Fireforged Empire is beautiful. Truly a great mod. But it does have some bugs here and there.

I never experienced issues with atilla in the past, so I never understood the hate against it. I dislike the UI off Rome 2 so much... It makes playing great mods like DEI less fun.

after Rome 2 Atilla was brilliant, the major weakness campaign-wise was that the political office chart gets impossible to keep full, when in reality you would always have someone in that position

Why do people mod Atila more than Rome 2 ???
Because Attila is more mod friendly, has more native options for various mechanics etc :)
It has deeper campaigns mechanics and deeper battles
It still has piss poor optimization.
The sad part is it's all solved by editing the number of cores in the preference script. Such a simple fix.
This has been my main hangup for years on attila. What do you have to change?
@DarkWolf447 In your %appdata% folder, there is a subfolder called scripts.
In that folder you got a txt file called "preferences" open it and search by pressing CTRL+f
Search for "number_of_cores" and change it from 0 to the amount of cores your CPU has.
Stopped all the microlag and hangups.
@@SFGreggs go to this folder %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Attila\scripts\ , here edit the preferences.script.txt file, I don't exactly remember but i think it's the line with no_of_threads 0, change 0 to 8 or your cpu's thread number.

Jokes aside, HOLY S@#$! Look that those mods! That Archer Mod in particular should make CA "Ashamed!" And yet another video on why ALLOWING MODS/MOD SUPPORT is the BEST thing you can do to a Game.

As much as 1212 strives for historical accuracy they fall short on the Roman Empire. It's the one thing I hate in that mod. If you retake Constantinople as one of the the Roman factions you don't restore the Roman Empire but the Byzantine Empire. That's not historically accurate as there was never a Byzantine Empire. Byzantium ceased to exist in 330 as it's name was changed. Outside of that they do a great job with the 1212 mod. I just hope they fix that instead of misnaming the Roman Empire. I was hoping Andy's Take wouldn't use the wrong term but he did. I guess it's hard to undo 467 years of calling the Roman Empire something else.

Medieval Kingdoms is better than any Medieval 3 that we would ever get. Let’s face it, guys: there’s not going to be a decision to restore the Roman Empire, or a separate government mechanic for the HRE, or the sheer faction diversity of 1212. That’s just not happening. It’s going to be very barebones if it ever comes.
Not to mention, it’s more than likely gonna run on this same engine, so it won’t be substantially different mechanically-speaking either.
Loved attilas gameplay and it has some cool mods but unfortunately it still runs like hot garbage on the campaign map with horrible turn times which is such a turn off.
All these incredible mods just show how incompetent the actual developers are. The games are made without love and care. I don't even see anyone playing Pharaoh. Such a shame.
I bought Pharaoh yesterday AFTER WATCHING YOUR REVIEW and instantly uninstalled cz no cav. I feel that should've been emphasized heavily ;(

Rome 2 reskin
Thrones of Britannia is a historical game and paraoh as well. They are smaller Games , but saying Attila was the Last true historical title, is just wrong and not a opinion. The world is flat isn't a valid opinion neither, because it isn't.
Maybe he means full game. Thrones was a saga and pharaoh was as in all but name
Pharaoh is as much a historical title as Troy or 3K. I do agree that Thrones counts as a historical title but he does start by saying Attila is the last historical to him.
