    Is this the true heir to Medieval II? If so, I wouldn't be sad. Medieval Kingdoms 1212 is an absolute beast of a mod when all is said and done, adding features I never thought possible in a Total War game. I've never made an analysis video on this mod, so I thought it was time to take a deep dive, checking out the various factions, features, units, and the update that just came out. I hope you'll join me as we check out the astonishing Holy Roman Empire mechanics and everything else making this mod so unique, bringing a true medieval Total War experience while waiting for Medieval III itself. Who knew Total War Attila could be modded to this extent?!

    I actually liked playing as Burgundy. The French were getting their asses whooped by the English and (of course in history it was the opposite) I came and helped the French king by annihilation. I played nice with my neighbors vs invading them...but the fact that you can have relative 'fun' while staying 'stagnant' is not only fun but historical. In all TW games you had to keep fighting wars and winning tiles to enjoy or feel progress...I want a game where I can grow whenever I please and have other means of 'progressing' besides literally taking up space on the map.

    Updating the battle maps (especially for sieges) isn't a minor issue: currently, it feels like I'm playing Attila with medieval units. Just changing the audio cues to rid of those exotic flute sounds from Attila would go a long way to making the whole experience feel more like the Middle Ages.

    I trust the modders more than Creative Assembly. Total War modding community is some of the best out there. I don’t crave a Medieval 3 because I know it will be underwhelming. The only reason why it could be good, is that they make optimal conditions for modders to make it superior.

      Also one of the many reasons I love MK 1212AD
      Is because the Byzantine Empire feels fleshed out and unique
      Compared to Medieval 2, it's a good Total War title, but I hate the unit roster given for Byzantium, it made it feel lackluster, generic, feel like the Etruscans in that Rome 2 Total War DLC where they just feel an unplayable faction that is weak
      Thank god that the mods like Stainless Steel, Chivalry 1 and Chivalry 2 exist
      And also MK 1212
      which makes the Byzantine Successor states Epirus, Latins, Trebizond and Nicaea feel so unique
      It felt like the MK modders cared about us Byzantophiles :,]
      Even though the diplomacy in Total War games suck
      Which means being allies with ERE (Eastern Roman Empire) while being the HRE, converting to Orthodoxy, invading Italy, will be impossible, unless Attila had a hotseat mode, which it doesn't, and it's a shame
      It's still worth getting Total War, and getting this mod

  • @chellybub

      Hahaha! :D YES, the HRE UI is what just completely sets this mod apart, an absolute gorgeous piece of work! I’m really excited to see how they’ll implement the college of cardinals, I imagine it could be something similar but just for EVERY catholic faction!

    • @chellybub
      @chellybub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndysTake it sounds like they have taken a lot of inspiration from paradox as well perhaps. So many factions, so much to do... This could be addictive. I like that they overcame some of Atillas shortcoming too give the player some more wiggle room and I like the sound of population being more complex and stratified for recruitment etc. The papal elections will be interesting because this is during the time where it starts to get a lot more political. There's some great idea in this mod, I hope CA is watching lol

    • @matiasmosquella1830
      @matiasmosquella1830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've played it before. So I definitely suggest it. However you should be aware that at least for me increasing building slots worked until you quit the game. Once you restart the game later on its all lost. Public order and sanitation are also extremely difficult at times. I had core regions constantly in revolt no matter what I did while I had newly conquered ones that I could leave alone for a 100 turns before worry. Trust me these are not small issues. Units are also still only on the early stage as they haven't finished their to late stage units. But it's a great experience despite all of these issues

    I want Medieval II: Remastered. I concluded that it was the best TW in terms of engine and warfare. This new modern engine just doesn't work with melee fighting. Just go check Medieval II and compare it to Rome 2. Then anyone honest would have to admit that Medieval II: TW was the last great melee TW.

    I agree with what you say when it translates the classical setting to the Medieval era which itself is an achievement of total war modding. I would digress when I say I'd want a Medieval city or castle any day than a vanilla Attila city because I'm quite tired of fighting in vanilla for now. But I'm not sure whether I should play a current campaign tbh, a lot of the mod is unfinished for now - and I can wait for a few patches here and there, but I don't know

    Great video Andy, I have recently subbed to you and find all of your content very helpful and your explanations are clear, concise and to the point. keep up the good work.
    I have 1 question which may be a silly one, does this mod suffer with the same optimization issues that the base game has? as even now that I have a much better PC compared to when I first played Attila it is still a real pain to run, I know it's not likely that the mod fixes these issues but I thought I would ask before I download it all again as this mod looks like everything I want in a Total War game :)
    Anyway thanks again for another great video Andy

    • @AndysTake
      @AndysTake  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for the kind words, Big Ron, that really means a lot! So what are your specs? It sadly suffers even more from optimization issues than vanilla I find, because there are so many added script changes and stuff. But honestly, it runs just fine for me. Depending on your specs, under no circumstances have shadows on Ultra, keep them on quality as the highest. You can also enable the VRAM setting, dont remember what it's called at the moment. I also find that somehow, using AAx2 is better than MLAA (or whatever it's called). You just cant get around optimization stuff with this game, sadly :/

      @AndysTake  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ronnie_Z Yes, you HAVE to try it. And you have a really good setup, I’d say you should have much better performance than me since I believe Attila prefers Intel CPUs (I’m rocking an AMD cpu at the moment). But like I said, no max quality shadows, that’s a must. Also, for battles, keep things like vegetation and water and sky on quality (not max). I won’t compromise on units or texture quality/tessellation though, and I have things like v sync and all of that enabled.

    Empire II: Total Revamp
    Working diplomacy, actual usable engine. All the down to earth improvements we need in a Napoleon-esque environment.
    Then, Rome 3, Medieval 3, and Shogun 3 each making iterative improvements and encapsulating all aspects of all eras. Rome 3 covers Pharaoh, Troy, Alexander, Carthage, Caesar, Augustus and the fall of rome covered in Attila, on through the early Attila DLC.
    Thrones being the breaking point where Medieval 3 starts, continuing on up through the gunpowder and discovery age. Then Shogun 3 where we track from the Mongol invasion to the Fall of the Samurai period.
    Then Finally, after improving and learning from each game, and implementing all the correct changes. We finally culminate in the end-all-be-all of Total War, Empire 3! Where every aspect is perfect and that game is used to pump out DLC after DLC covering campaigns from the first American Civil War, WW1 and WW2 all the way back through all the previous campaigns remastered in this final engine that can run perfectly on everything...

    The vassal thing is great except in attila (I guess this is from vanilla?) like you said, the diplo states are unsynced. I don't know the difference but sometimes, like as England, I can NEVER keep a vassal. They are either already at war with someone or get declared on and destroyed, even if I'm good friends with the faction that does it!?! Somehow it depends tho; same deal with the seljuks and somehow it happens less, I'm more able to keep vassals. Who knows.

    • @AndysTake
      @AndysTake  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know, it's really fricking annoying. At least here, as long as you can keep them, it's possible to also get ready of them. I find that it's a good way to create some relief without having to spend a lot of time and money repairing a city or leaving your force there for a few turns, though, and it's awesome when it actually works :)

    • @toReasonWhy
      @toReasonWhy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AndysTake Most definitely! I also sometimes find it works to wait a while... like a good while. As in just eliminate the faction then use that "Release buffer state" option you mention in vid, once the province is happy etc, and it can then be easier to keep them... sometimes >_<

  • @jasonargos110
    @jasonargos110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The problem with this mod is that it has taken the developers so long to get to this point and still no medieval buildings or castles that it makes it just an Attila reskin mod (as good as they are) with some new scripts. On top of that the campaign is pretty static and the Ai is too passive. It is really only enjoyable if you use one of Bran's Campaign Ai sub mods.

  • @nostradamusofgames5508
    @nostradamusofgames5508 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's a great mod but there are still problems with it- both minor and major. Minor one being that the option to change your faction name doesnt work. So even though you may control all of Europe as Flanders, You will still be the "County of Flanders", plus your faction leader will still be named a "Count" and your bodyguard units will stil be called "Count's Bodyguard". A major problem is the constant crashes for some players due to the recent update. Hopfully they fix it ASAP.

    the problem with this mod is the same problem as with most TW games; as the player expands the AIs stay largely the same. you end up fighting a bunch of weak factions. you have to find a way to keep the challenge up over time. for example in third age, mordor would tech up to trolls and harad would field so much forces and send all of them your way. or in civ4 one of the AIs ususally catherine would gobble up everyone and become so powerfull. in tw games you are ususally the only one getting stronger

    Late 1100s / early 1200s is the greatest starting point for any Medieval 3 successor. All nations have finally stabilized and become powerful enough for great potential, and Mongolian invasions are right around the corner to be a great endgame boss much like Attila or Chaos hordes. If you go back to the 1000s, everything is fairly scattered and if you go into the 1300s, you have the bubonic plague which let's be honest, no one wants to deal with massive settlement squalor and quelling revolts every 3 turns.

Is this a bud or am I just getting to big to fast. The last campaign I played I went on every crusade and only attacked a Christian faction when they attacked me first.
