5 Interview Questions and How to Answer [Part 1]

Here are five questions you must prepare before your medical school interviews.
First, “Why us?” Med schools want to assess how well you know the program and why you think it’s a good fit for you. Research each school’s strengths and see how they align with your goals.
Second, “Why you?” Admissions committees want to see how you stand out from others and why you fit their school’s values. Don’t just list traits; provide stories that highlight why you are an ideal candidate.
Third, “Describe a challenge and how you overcame it.” Give interviewers a genuine story that highlights your strengths and resilience, not the incident.
Fourth, “What are your greatest weaknesses?” Don’t evade this question. Be honest, but be positive. Keep the focus on your professional and academic development while showing maturity in how you are learning from and addressing your shortcomings.
Finally, “What would you be if you couldn’t be a doctor?” It’s okay to admit how disappointing this outcome would be, but also show your interviewers how you’d continue pursuing your passions, perhaps in a field that has overlapping values to why you chose medicine.
