  • This is timelapse footage of the new spire at Notre-Dame cathedral being revealed.
In April 2019 the world watched in horror as Paris’ world famous Notre-Dame cathedral was engulfed in flames. The wooden spire constructed in 1859 by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc was entirely destroyed.
But in the months and years that followed the medieval masterpiece has been rebuilt. The cathedral has been encapsulated in a vast shell of scaffolding, totalling 70,000 pieces.
After the spire was rebuilt, a golden chicken adorned with flames was lowered onto the peak. The new phoenix-like chicken symbolises the re-emergence of the building from the ashes. Then the scaffolding came down, revealing the new spire in its full glory.
It’s hoped that Notre-Dame will reopen by the end of 2024. Although it won’t be finished in time for the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

The new Spire is magnificent in its detailed duplication of the original. God bless all the craftsmen involved in this project.

Many churches in France have a rooster at the top of the towerbell. The rooster is the symbolic animal for France like the eagle is the symbol for Germany. It is said it started because of the romans who named our country "gallus" for Gaul but it means also rooster in latin.

It's NOT a Chicken.... But a ROOSTER, which IS the main symbol of France....
And It was already there before the fire.

It’s been redesigned, the new rooster is designed to look like a phoenix.

It's still a Chicken!! Chickens are Roosters and Hens. If it were a Hen on top it would still be a Chicken. It's a Chicken!!

    • @T.J
      @T.J 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@Sirk1966 indeed yes it’s a chicken. In France we mostly say chicken (poulet) once the animal is killed and ready to eat and use the terms rooster / hen (coq) more when the animal is still alive. So that’s probably why French people are getting offended.
It is sort of like in English where they call an ox an ox while it’s alive but once it’s killed and ready to eat it’s called beef…
So imagine if a country had an ox as emblem but people said the emblem is a beef, people would surely protest against that silly name haha.
      Humans are weird.

Well done, thank you, France, and congratulations for saveing and restoring one of Frances most famous national symbols. And also well done to do it before the inaugeration of Paris Olympic games 2024!
I hope to see it in this autumn as i plan to visit the Louvre, musee des arts et science, musee de Velo, the aircraft museum at Le Bourget for the second time and also the car fair for the fourth time since 1994. 😊

I REALLY wish somebody would film a featurette on the work that is happening inside the south tower. During the fire, the firemen had put their lives in the gravest of danger there. If they had lost, the entire cathedral could have come down. What they saved that day deserves to be shown before and during its restoration.

La France est un grand pays. Seuls les Français ne le croient pas. Thanks to all foreigners who love our country more than ourselves. And welcome to visit all our regions.

As an American whose ancestors were from France, I’ve often thought what it would be like to return back to my ancestral homeland. ESPECIALLY WHEN TRUMP HAD GOTTEN HIMSELF ELECTED. I never realized just how many stupid Americans are being allowed to vote. Surely the government should have found them something more useful for them to occupy their time with BEFORE they were given the opportunity to blame everyone else for their lives’ blunders.

The emblem of France is NOT a chicken but a rooster in memory of the night when Jesus Christ was arrested and betrayed 3 times. This is what stands on top of the spire. NOT a chicken Please.

A rooster indeed, but in no way a religious symbol. It is the emblem of France or rather Gaul ,gallus meaning both a rooster and a Gaul.
