American carpenter helps with restoration of France's Notre Dame

- Monday marks five years since the fire that nearly destroyed the iconic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. Elaine Cobbe has the story of an American carpenter who got a chance to work on the restoration.

when you like working on such nice buildings to keep them alive and shining for the future generation, it is the right place to be. I can understand him wanting to carry on there with his job and skills.

Have visited the cathedral in 2013, a "must see" when you are in Paris!
This story filled my eyes with tears of joy. That Notre Dame is almost finished and that there were magnificent people who came from all over the world to heal the Cathedral's wounds were two of the most wonderful things that I have heard in a long, long time. I hope Hank gets his wish and finds joy in France. Notre Dame was the very first thing I ever saw in Europe and France holds a very special place in my heart; I love them both.

oué enfin pas de quoi en faire tout un fromage aussi hein. UN américain sur combien de personne sur le chantier? Le fait est que ce sont bien nos compagnons AVEC leurs savoirs faire qui ont rendu cette magnifique restauration possible.

Moi, j'ai retenu bien autre chose de cette information : d'un que Notre dame n'appartient pas qu'a la France elle appartient également à tous les chrétiens et catholiques du monde. De deux, vous devriez vous réjouir que la France n'est pas la seule à produire des artisans de qualité ayants conservés un savoir-faire ancestral ; en tout cas, moi ça me rassure car notre patrimoine est garanti d'être sauvé encore pour très longtemps par des gens de valeurs peu importe d'où ils viennent.
Et enfin de trois, voir ce gars quitter son pays pour venir apporter son talent et le mettre au service de mon pays, pays qui l'aime en plus au point de vouloir y vivre, devrait vous ramener à plus d'humilité et peut-être vous poser la seule question qui vaille : qu'ai-je fait moi pour sauver Notre Dame et qui ferait que je mériterai plus que lui notre attention ?
@@pinkunicorn3373faux. Plusieurs charpentiers sont venus des USA, idem pour plusieurs pays européens. C’était un chantier exceptionnel de charpenterie et une opportunité unique d’apprendre les techniques ancestrales du moyen-âge.

Tant qu'on y est, quand on est si fier d'être français, on écrit "Ouais", "fromage", "Combien de personneS" et "Leurs savoiR-fairE" sans oublier que ce sont "nos" ouvriers qui ont mis le feu à la cathédrale en occasionnant un faux contact...

This project speaks to the vanity of those in charge of the catholic church.
In France, cathedrals are owned and maintained by the state. The Catholic church has nothing to do with it other than using them for services.
And the people of Paris wanted their Cathedral back.
The Church does not own Notre-Dame,a listed building and the property of the French state .Moreover in the Middlle Ages ,gothic cathedrals were built to be the pride of city dwellers who used them to sign business contracts ,organize unions--- and they were designed to serve as palaces for the poor,homeless people being permitted to spend the night inside.Before uttering such primitive prejudices ,teach yourself a bit of history (By the way I am NOT a catholic )

Preserving cultural and historical heritage isn't the worst usage of money and resources. Far from it.
While literally trillions upon trillions of dollars are being used to produce meaningless items across the globe.

And jobs are provided for construction workers as well as the places that supply materials and the places the workers spend their money. Then once the work is finished there will be the tourists buying tickets to tour Notre Dame. And spending their Euros at various businesses near the Cathedral.

For a historical building, yes it's interesting to see the craftsmanship, But, as far as eternal significance , it is only a building , to provide a locale for worshippers The true Church is the People , not the building.
