WOW!!!! I made this salad this afternoon with a batch of my homegrown cucumbers. I was skeptical about the sugar, since I have always made a more salty/savory dressing before. But wanted to give this recipe a chance. After marinating for almost 2 hours I have to say YUMMY X1000!!!! Best ever!!! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
Could you please specify how much of the other ingredients in the salad? How much vinegar, salt, cider, etc? Thank you! If I were to put too much vinegar in for example, I'm afraid nobody would want to eat it.
My mother-in-law made this. But she had the cucumbers covered with the water/vinegar mixture. Not so much sugar either. She was diabetic. She made a a nice tangy salad.
The cucumber and onions need to be fully submerged and need to marinate overnight. Less sugar and add pepper. 50 year old Grandmas recipe never failed me. And I always get Compliments at a dinner party.🔪
And the way she's slicing it and stuff she's making it take forever just to get it prepared. But yes it has to be submerged that's why I always put it in a bowl and put a plate on top to swish it down. And refrigerate at a minimum overnight. And it does need pepper and you don't have to use as much sugar as you think you do. So I'm right there with you. I mean hers looks good but you know there's always ways to yummy it up even more
The pepper really adds to the taste. That's how grandma made it. In Wisconsin we grew a half acre of cucumbers every season to sell and we had this often. Loved eating them, hated picking them.
Make enough vinegar marinade to cover completely and allow to set overnight in the fridge. Make marinade twice as strong to compensate for all the liquid that comes out of the cucumbers. But it’s all according to personal taste. I just prefer to have that sweet apple vinegar taste all the way through! But that’s how I grew up eating them. I agree with apple cider opposed to white when they are made sweet.
Hi, I love cucumbers and usually put them in my salad but haven’t made them alone like this. The vinegar marinated ones look delicious. I just printed out your recipe and I am definitely going to make them. Perfect side dish when the warm weather is here. See you soon, Dolores 🥰
Milk? Immediately sounds horrible to me so I’m sure it must be great! Gonna try it this weekend. I grew up watching my grandfather eat milk, saltines and smoked oysters cut up in it. Used to turn my stomach! Now my grandkids watch me eating it with the same reaction!
It would be nice if you included the amounts of sugar, water, and vinegar. The online receipe says 1/2 cup each of water and sugar but says nothing about the vinegar.
What's pretty good also instead of making up vinegar recipe, just splash good seasons italian dressing, over it all all those spices and vinegar are great.
Losing all kinds of nutrients peeling that cucumber. I take some off sometimes just for aesthetics. Instead of trying to pick up all the onion, how bout picking up th board and scraping it into the bowl. Maybe use a bigger bowl just some observation from a non-chef.
Was this your first time using a big knife? Use a smaller knife if the big one scares you. Holy Sugar Batman! Yikes people are going to eat that thinking they're making a healthy choice and can't figure out why they're getting a sugar high?
Sugar is killing the population. Never have put it in my cucumbers in over 50 years. Just vinegar and a little Redmond's salt. Some people add water I do not. I use white vinegar usually.

My grandma made this for us years ago, always loved it. I'll be making this soon.
You pick the smallest bowls you can?

U should try chilling them fully submerged. Let them really soak in the flavor
I actually leave the vinager in the bowl.😋
@@rjperez1554 Same!
Remember this when I was a child. Good eats

I add fresh chopped tomatoes to mine ❤
How many carbs?
Thinking maybe add stevia instead...? Or monk fruit extract.
You can even use honey.
The cucumbers and onions should be fully submerged in the vinegar solution. You don't cook chicken with 90% of it outside the pan, do you?

Yep! My granny & mama made it too! I'm stirring some up right now!

EXACTLY lol
I knew sum wasn’t right😂

Apples 🤔 I eat mine with lemons 🍋 delicious 😋
The apples sound really good.
Ooooh that looks good! Thank you.
Thus may be a good salad, but if i had to work in the kitchen with you, I would go nuts

My dad used to make it with onions, cucumbers, milk, vinegar and sugar. It was soooo good.

@@maxhenry9724 lol. Did you try the milk?
@@vickieo.7680 My wife wouldn’t let me! She’s not as open to change as I am. I will have to make my own batch!
@@maxhenry9724 Doesn't take a lot but it's good.
If I am not mistaken mom would
Add canned milk which gave it a
unique taste.
How much? Cups?
How about tomato’s ?
Whoa! Looks yummy!
Measurements don't matter? I remember my mim using white vinegar, anyine else?

Delicious recipe. Just like mom use to make.
When Marinating meats, veggies etc should stay in marinate until flavors have set . All day / over night
This looks delish
Looks good. I love a cucumber salad. But why the sugar? Is that traditional or a family recipe?
I may be wrong but I believe that it gives a pseudo-pickled flavor
because the vinegar would gag you on its own, although I use Truvia (mixture of stevia and sugar) and less of it plus a teaspoon of olive oil
for “pickle” flavor, add chopped dill herb
That was like watching a tomato plant grow 😅
Is all that sugar necessary? Some yes but….
I'd prefer to completely omit the sugar.
recipe is at the website.
Can you freeze this?
Dum question 😅

The marinade needs to cover the cubes and onions.
Why cut off the nutritional value of the cucumber skins?
Why add sugar to an otherwise healthy dish?
That’s what creates this unique flavor. Maybe you could try using honey instead if you’re worried about a healthy dish.
All that horrible sugar???
Where's the recipe???
I totally agree. No recipe. How much sugar? Vinegar?
@@marilyncampbell3370 It's in the description. www.favfamilyrecipes.com/vinegar-marinated-cucumbers/

Bigger bowl would be good 😂
Can’t wait 😅
U jus toss stuff in and don't mention amounts? Wassup with dat? 🤔
Why is everybody peeling a cucumber for what reason thats the part with most taste

Bigger bowl works better
20 minutes to marinate?! Now you lost all credibility. Geez.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Use a bigger bowl - ya think? lol
Add sour cream and it's way better
Bigger bowl next time!!
I had to mute it music is irritating
Think you need a bigger bowl lol
?
Too much sugar 🤑
Get yourself some bigger bowls

Need a bigger bowl. Don’t pour that out!!
I use frozen cucumbers, no water, and heat the vinegar. Save the juice and add more cucumbers later❤😊 yummy
This is the worst way to do it. You just scraped all of the peel off the cucumbers that’s where all the vitamins and nutrients are.
It is just cucumbers and vinegar! Why to make big fus about it?! Whi cannot cut cucumbers and poor vinegar ovet it?! It is us rediculous!
Uhhhh this was terrible…..
One of those annoying videos doesn’t give measurements
You do not marinate fruits or vegetables you only marinate meat. What you are doing is called macerating. DUH
WAYYYYYYYY too many cucumbers
