You did a mock-up. Proud of you, Lady. Ah mah Gawd, I hate 'em. Still learning to love the process... yup. That dress is the fabulous. Perfect for the season. Mitered corners are still on my to-do list. Right now I'm on a sewing hiatus. While I try and figure out (finally, finally) how to fit my mixed-media / art / sculpture / photography / printing studio space into a small one-bedroom vintage 70's apartment building. Prayers, burnt incense and burnt baking as offerings to the Tetris Gods would be deeply appreciated. {also - the friggin' sewing... ghahhh} - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown
Small suggestion for the next time you tie something off too short (it happened once, so, you know, people gotta people). If you hand sew over your last complete part of the seam and just continue to the point? It'll probably take less swearing? Maybe? - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown
Oh, yes! Love this! It is So Inspiring!! Adore your accessories! I'd say it went pretty darn well. You got it all on the fabric! ALWAYS a win. Currently, I'm considering what fabric to debut our little Butterick 7486 friend in. Something Spoopy would be fab, and then maybe something Turkey. I'm so stoked!! Planning to trace her tomorrow! YAY FALL!
Your editing skills have gone up by SEVERAL levels in this video! Dress: awesome. Fabric: awesome. You: awesome. You have just enough fabric left to make a matching mask! Heck yeah, pockets and sedition. :D
OK this is wildly entertaining! 1. Well done, mock up! 2. Piecing is period, just roll with it ;-) 3. I know I say this often but I like your sound effects. The screaming goat pretty much always makes me cackle 4. Also that dress is hella cute! Nice work! HOW COULD I FORGET 2.5: POCKETS!
I love the spooky vibe without hitting it on the nose, so to speak. Reminds me very much of a friend I had in college. I met her when I joined the college choir. I didn't have anyone to sit with so when looking for a seat, I noticed that no one was sitting next to the girl wearing giant rubber rats as earrings. That was exactly who I wanted to sit next to! Earrings like that would go well with this dress, and tie in with the Ratatouille ride ;)
Love the reveal Stephanie, also the dress is beautiful, it suits you. I’m glad to see your realistic style of production, too glossy makes me skip or quit. Cheers.
My sewing machine also has a press button to tie threads in place. It's just a dot with a circle around it. When I puss that button, the needle simply goes into the fabric 4 times in a row, but the transport foot does not go any further. If you have that little sign on your sewing machine, or the "thread tying" function, you can simply let the sewing machine do the work. I always just tighten them a little so that the knot stays in place.
Super cute! As frustrating as it can be sometimes, I love that sewing with vintage patterns can be an adventure. My current project definitely had some vintage pattern weirdness. Not sure if it didn’t get punched correctly (unprinted pattern) or if the original seamstress just made her own alterations and tossed the cut off bits but it took a bit of wrangling to get all the pieces sorted. 🤷🏻♀️
Ugh what a pain that the facing is wrong. I hate it when that happens, I cant' remember what pattern it was but I also had a vintage pattern with a misprint. Love the dress, bias trim is becoming one of my favorite ways to finish a garment!
Wondering if a little snap at the front (above the buttons) would hold that together a little better. Looks great on you! Good pattern selection. You can add it to your Tried & True stash. Still think you look best with no makeup, and I honestly thought you had your hair like that on purpose (forgot to let the side down), it was cute. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
@@StephanieCanada I'm always sourcing notions from my local Senior thrift store. Lots of great hook/eyes and little snaps, zippers, buttons, fabric cuts and patterns grannie never used. A better selection than the big name thrift stores, and better prices. Yes, I have a "hoard" of notions in a box. But it's so great not to have to go to the store at 11 pm when I'm in my sewing frenzy.
“We’ve got something much more important to do!” Video cuts immediately to a video of a woman petting a giant white samoyed, and for just a second I think Stephanie has a new dog. Then the ad plays on…
The dress is real cute. I wouldn't mind having that cut of a dress to wear. What is the pattern maker and number? I have a few cute 1940s original patterns but not like that dress. I love a midi princess seam dress the most of all. My favorite is a tight pencil dress but I like that style also. Nice and looks good on you!
I lost focus for a moment because my kids were fighting and I saw you get in the car - I figured you were going to the store for more fabric. Then I thought “wait - there’s a fabric store on Epcot Center Drive???” Oh. She’s going to Epcot 😂
I really love this dress on you. It's super flattering. And if you were some place that ever got cold you could layer a top under it. (Minnesota girl thinks about layering 24-7)...
I love love love the fabric of the dress, it turned out really cute. Love the cute earrings too. I don't know if you watch Bernadette Banner but she calls leftover scraps like what you had "cabbage". It is great that you took some time out to have some fun at Disney World.
I was definitely on the struggle bus the other day trying to make the walkaway dress. Despite your warning😭. ( I hated it .But I will persevere and make it work) I am also one that forgets to tie off my darts but instead back stitch or tack them down like a mad woman. Ps. Thank you so much 💓
Oh my gosh Stephanie I love this dress. Could you please tell me what pattern this was and size please? Also do you know where I could acquire said pattern.
Love how the dress turned out, super cute and flattering! I’m completely obsessed with that Simplicity 3580 pattern from the beginning. I can’t seem to find it anywhere, not even on the Vintage Pattern Wiki! Do you think you’d be able to upload it to there? I love being able to pin or save patterns I like for future style reference. Thanks :)
Again thanks for the Realness & I too have decided - Spooktember and am rocking my Deep Teal tea mug with cemetery gates & glow in the dark ghosts. How bout some Infuencer vs Reality minis since I love getting to see the Work in Progress chaos Reality & I'm not even a sewer
I love when you sew I need to get passed my fear and make my dress I have pattern and everything it’s on the side and I’m too scared to sew urgh how do I get passed the fear??? I love you xx
Aww!!! Love you too, Beverly! You start small, find a bedsheet you don't care about and cut it up for a mock up, that is what I did. Then that gives you the confidence to go at it for real. You GOT this!
It’s been so long. 30+ish years since sewing in HomeEc. You have to add the seem? It’s not a part of the pattern? I’m thinking of taking up sewing adhd is telling me so. 😂

Your editing is chaotic in the best way possible. Excellent video and beautiful garment per usual.
Absolutely LOVED the Hocus Pocus necklace - the dress wasn't too shabby either!
Thank you Rachel! it was from Quirky Turkey Designs two years ago I think.
As stressful as it is when you are so tight to get everything cut in the fabric, it is so satisfying when you are left with little scraps.
YOU MADE A MOCKUP I AM PROUD OF YOU
Mock ups are what happen when I am TERRIFIED to cut into my beautiful vintage fabric. So I guess there is an upside to nerves.
Loved how cute this dress looks on you! Great job ❤
1:00 . You can be very comfortable and stylish in this dress but also kick ass if another human being is not keeping distance ;)

Stephanie, if you get anything from this let it be this fact.
I had no idea one was suppose to tie off the dart. Thank you for that knowledge.

You are so welcome! It is just like how The Closet Historian does her darts too. It reduces bulk (which I can always use).
The dress is very cute, and perfectly completed by your Sanderson sisters pin.
Thank you! The necklace and Binx earrings were made by Quirky Turkey designs a few years ago.

Yes!!!! This is EXACTLY how I choose a new project😂😂😂😂!!!

SO TRUE (I forgot to show my mask cut out already). And thank you so much, I do keep trying.
POCKETS!!! Love the way you think. :-)
Right! No dress without pockets, it is 2021 for heavens sake.
Looks great. I’ve never thought of cutting the pattern in half when I didn’t have enough material. Brilliant!
I have never done it before, and thankfully the fabric was so busy that You can't really tell. PHEW!
This video gave me the motivation I needed to start working on my current UFO again.
HUZZAH! I am so proud of you! You got this!

If I could throw in a 'screaming goat' echo up here from the North; it is offered in hearty agreement.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown
The facings as printed are diabolical evil even without modifications. I did wonder why Grandma had handmade facing patterns once. Then I learned.
I really like this dress! The fabric was a great choice also.
It’s very flattering on you, well except for the crispy interfacing . ♥️👍🤪

I truly enjoy the extreme sarcasm!!
Cute and with plenty of spooky vibes. Love!

Beautiful Stephanie Canada from Florida! I don’t sew but enjoy watching you create.🍁🎃🎃🍁
Thank you so much Brenda!
Excellent fun, thank you for taking us along this sewing adventure!
Thank you so much Michael!
I love when you take us out with you. Lockdown means I crave even faux social interaction!
Trying to create faux social interactions since 2020.... (le sigh)
Kitty buttons would have pushed it over the top! It’s gorgeous!
I definitely have to watch this again. ❤️ dress turned out beautiful and the struggle bus is real. Thank you for always keeping it real ❤️
Thank you so much!! And I try, in all my awkward glory.
I really like this dress and the pattern! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A mockup!!! Who is this imposter!!
This is still me, just me terrified of cutting one of my most special vintage fabrics.

SO TRUE! There have been a few times I wondered the same this, but this flub was all on the manufacturer, like dear folks, where was that notch?!
Oh that was fun! For us!
Cute fabric! The dress came out very nicely. I love when you can figure out the perfect layout to use all the fabric. It's always a win in my book.
Thank you so much! I have had this fabric for about 2 years now and finally decided to DO THE THING!

sewing humor and a cute dress, excellent!

Yeah, unfortunately just because it is vintage doesn't mean it is perfect. But I still make them because I like them better. 😂
You are wonderful. Just love watching you.
Aww shucks that you so much!
The dress looks cute. I love the Sanderson sister necklace
I loved this video one of my favorites!!
Thank you so much Drew! This one gave me a run for my sanity.
Very cute dress!
Your hair at the end looked fine, didn't notice one side was down till you pointed it out. (Actually, you have lovely hair)👍
Really appreciate the closeups at the end.
Aww thank you! I realized I need to share closer shots. 😍
So beautiful!! Also that Spanish moss scene makes me miss living in Orlando so much 😭
Thank you so much Fawn! There is one patch of beautiful Spanish Moss and since we had a storm rolling in, that is why I chose it.
Cute!

Thank you Sue! And yes, I may try a snap if washing it doesn't calm down the interfacing. The downside to using what i have in the house.
