I enjoy this guy's review style. He isn't trying to be ultra-technical like Chris Harris, and I like that. More of a driving footage with light hearted commentary than a balls-to-the-walls in-depth review. Breath of fresh air. Good on ya, mate. Keep it up.
Excellent reviewer! Like you said right here and right now this is THE BMW to enjoy. No doubt M2 will be great, but I will sure enjoy my daily M235i for now! Thanks for the great reviews!
This car is in a segment all its own. They don't know what to compare it to. I've seen them comparing the M235i to everything from Porsche Caymen to several AMG Merc. and S line Audi. Whats more, most are getting 300+whp stock dyno numbers out of their M235i. People need to stop crying about it not being a "true" M car and get over it. BMW has been putting M on various cars since the 70's that weren't all out M cars. It has an M on it for a reason. BMW has created an ingenious, small and balanced rwd coupe that looks and drives great. M badges or not...
I bought mine on the strength of this and another couple of videos, glad i did, it's an epic car and if you drive on roads not tracks 99% of the time it's as fast and capable as you'd ever need.
great review, 2 questions. 1) Is the m4 worth the 25k price difference with options, vs this? 2) Where is this being shot? Looks a lot more like california than london!
+cjc90 1) No, the M4 is not worth the difference, unless you care about the more aggressive looks and 'real' M badge. Chip the M235i and you can get about 380hp, pair it with the M Performance exhaust and it screams. Perfect size and weight. 2) I'm not sure put it looks like Spain or Portugal.
When The New Mercedes C-Class W205 Comes To The UK In June Be Sure To Review It Please Rory And Make Sure It's An AMG Line Please, Would Be Most Grateful.
Rory, I've been looking at both the 235i and the Leon Cupra 280. Now the 235i is bordering on hot hatch and I've a test drive next week to see for myself but are you able to provide a comparison between them?
I am, I've driven both. What VW did with the clever front e-diff is trully outstanding - you almost feel like you're driving an AWD car. The Leon Cupra is very fast and a lot cheaper than the M235i. The Bimmer is faster, though, and that gurgly sound from the straight six on downshifts is glorious.
Great review. But thing is that these 2 series all have turbo. Turbo is high/costly maintenance once out off warranty and turbo always fail. Glad I still have my straight inline v6 e36. The 128i is also a good car with no turbo to avoid visiting bmw maintenance department.
I dislike the 2 series for 1 reason.. ITS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE, NO BMW IS SUPPOSED TO BE FWD. A proper BMW is engine in the front, power in the back, thats it.
The ride is not harsh it's quality damping and where u live the roads are smooth. Turbo lag? I don't think so it's super progressive and no lag only in normal mode obvious or not? The gear box is from the SlS so is the cooling system. The down shifts are not as fast as DSG or similar which is a shame. Now as overall quality looks sounds power interior the merc did amazing job with their first hatchback. The BMW looks is boring the rear end is ridiculous ugly the interior is terrible and it lacks the power after 5000 rpm.
Bachar Halabi Still, it's a 2L heavily turbo charged engine that does not come close to the silky BMW 3L with smooth power delivery and torque that makes driving a pleasure. You don't have to work it as hard as the 2L to get some where. As Clarkson said, don't care how good it is, it's still way too expensive for a small car with a small engine. And quality damping to handle good at high speed usually means harsh ride on streets at low speed, something all test drivers have mentioned. That is the Mercedes problem. They try to make their cars sporty by ever harder suspensions. The black series back breaking suspension is legendary.

Rory prefers to bring the walls directly to his balls, but we take your point. Thanks for watching, James.

Any chance for a review of the xDrive version of the M235i in a near future?
An exciting and great review. I laughed all the way through this.Nice one!!This has convinced me.... I am buying this car. Forget the 3 series.
Hi guys, when are you reviewing the BMW M2? I've been waiting for your take on it. I know it's a great car, I would love to see you review it.
Cool video. I would like to see this compared to the '15 WRX STi

+BBDSmint M4 over this one any time, but m235i is bmw's best performance value car.
Great Review! I want to see a comparison of this to my 13 m package 135i, is there really that big of a difference?
Dont think anyone consistently makes drivers cars like BMW does
+tanafc96 Porsche
Great review! Is your camera man having seizures though?

A straight v6? You really know about cars ^^
This dude had me sold on the car when he said f***
LMAO
Well, time to sell my M3 and a kidney...
Great car, fun review, but honestly, would be better without the annoying music. Just saying.
New subscriber:)
nice front shit back end
Rory and surprisingly Joey are the better reviewers on Top Gear. Chris Harris gets annoying fast

iSalssLV Derp
current 2 series coupe is RWD... only the shoddy 2 series "gran turismo" commits the sin you speak of...
Oh, okay den!
This car isn't front wheel drive mate
As much as I hate American slang, the damn car is a Coupe, not a Coupaaayyy..
A45 AMG is best in class sorry
keep dreaming
Its traction is front biased, it has quite a lot of turbo lag, the gearbox is painfully slow and the ride is too harsh. So, no.

Thats a hatchback?.....
