Last summer I finally went for a 4 weeks drive through Europe. From Sweden in the north across the stunning Alps and down to Italy, Monaco, France and all the way to south of Spain. Then back gain. It was a 10,000 km (6,200 miles) drive. If you ever get a chance do it. It gives you such a good feeling. Just drive with no plans or any predetermined directions. That way you will end up in the most amazing places and meet a lot of people. Just don't drag it too long before you do it, as I did. Safe drive.
Howzit, very cool vid. As a car journo based in Cape Town, I was chuffed to see that you've pulled off some really beautiful shots of this beautiful part of the world. I just have to correct you on that comment about a lack of cellphone signal in rural areas, I've been really lucky to travel the country extensively by car on local car launches, and I've never once been out of signal. Hope you enjoyed your time here.
Ye since they went n switched it's been hella garbage - have a look at car magazine on TH-cam - a uk based magaIne with Harry metcalf showing some dope cars
Hey just pay half of a Big Macs worth and youll have top content for the whole month. Me and everyone I know does. Its a way to keep these videos coming.
Well to be honest, I thought that opening scene with JF standing in front of the car and having the mountains right, the sea to the left was pretty epic. But when the sun comes out ... whoa. Unbelievable.
people should get over chris harris, he is a great presenter but this was also very enjoyable. there is no need to talk about him on every video! thank you JF for the longer video!
Safety and fuel issues? I filled up my 135i at 5.30am this morning at a petrol station 3 mins from my house...oh, and I made it home in one piece too. Also, can you believe that I'm typing this from a computer that's connected to the internet?! Africa hey?
very nice J.F. congrats for the video and the revival of driven series.....these videos are just extraordinary, however still cannot access drive plus from my country (Romania) please fix this issue.Thx for all the videos , and for all the effort that the drive team puts for us.
What a load of nonsense, safety risks and fuel, no cell reception!!! I have lived in South Africa for 23 years and have never had a safety issue, my modern car runs perfectly fine on any fuel i find here and my iPhone 5s has cell reception 99% of the time. He makes it sound like we live in some hole in the ground.
Unless you don't count murder and rape then yea I'm sure it's a load of nonsense? Using the US as a comparison you guys have 1/6th the population of the US yet have more murders than the US does. You also are 6x more likely to get raped. You want to call that nonsense again?
I just got back from Thailand/Vietnam, and even in the most remote places they had better cell reception and 3G than Belgium :p Also, they had free wifi virtually everywhere around the cities, but even in some countryside bars/cafes
Nice piece and love the last few shots. I have fond memories of a trip we took to Cape Town from Joburg in a VW bus with a ford V6 conversion. Radiator overheated and showers us with hot water inside the cabin, fun times in 1992.
Seven weeks. Seven freaking weeks! All well worth it, to showcase such a beautiful part of the world. The last shot was perfect. Reaffirms what touring is all about!
The people that are saying that they dont care about the rest of the video and just wanted to see more of the car. You are NOT a driver, you are a a consumer. This is a actual drivers dream. It's about what you see in the car that you choose that makes it all worthwhile.
Gerhard Botha too funny xD Tom Peary its just like any other country, there are areas that are safe and other areas that are more unsafe. I always recommend Cape Town for tourists, lot of different activities in safe areas and like the video suggest lots of scenic views. My favourite is quad biking through the Kogelberg nature reserve mountains run by Naturediscovery.
Tom, I am South African. I have lived here all my life. Just like in USA or Europe or anywhere else, there are safe places and unsafe places. If you are gonna go into the townships, you probably will get into trouble, just like the dangerous areas anywhere else. I am 27 years old, lived in Cape Town all my life and I have never once been mugged, robbed, threatened or anything!
Roelf van der Merwe thanks for replying I didn't mean any offense by it. I think in the UK we have been misold on your beautiful looking country in the past. It doesn't sound any different to here. It looks stunning that's for sure. You've got those big sharks though but wouldn't mind seeing those.
Damn @9:00 I thought that was CGI for a moment.... almost looked like it was taken out of big Hollywood movie. Also thank you for releasing content that doesn't have to be paid for.
Brilliant insert. Funny how we South Africans take those conditions for granted. It is indeed a beautiful country. I like how you used a Steadicam almost throughout the shoot..even inside the vehicle. It makes the whole thing look pro. Great work.
Jf, it's interesting you mention the m235i chassis feeling like an e46 m3, when the 135i first came out I felt the same about that chassis as well, both are very e46 m3 ish, with more modern damping.
Are people slowing down in the shoulder to let you pass? I'm from Montreal, Quebec... Nice, helpful motorists always blows my mind in other counties. Thee last time I was in Trinidad & Tobago, my cousins would driving around the hilly areas and beep twice to warn people that they were coming around a blind corner. Even the horn honking sounded nice.
At 9:00 that video became totally worth it. Stunning view to say the least!
These are the videos that make me try not to give up on my dreams.
That's what I'm saying. Looks like an absolutely amazing experience that I will make sure I achieve at one point.

We love your channel /Drive! Please don't shaft all of us who made your channel so popular! We want full videos again!
Ye since they went n switched it's been hella garbage - have a look at car magazine on TH-cam - a uk based magaIne with Harry metcalf showing some dope cars

But only if you life in USA. Europ ist left by side sadly but we have no chance at the moment to get the full videos...
Then its just a little more patience I hope, I think the guys work hard to reach out. On another note that last view was fantastic.
You guys did a fantastic job with the music in this video.
it's nice to see a positive video about africa. Lately all you hear with africa is negative.
Drive forgive me, I went crazy back then, watching this made realize how much I love this channel
I hope there will be a 30 minute version of this on drive+! Can't get enough, absolutely stunning!
Well to be honest, I thought that opening scene with JF standing in front of the car and having the mountains right, the sea to the left was pretty epic. But when the sun comes out ... whoa. Unbelievable.
Wow. 9:00 made me shed a tear. Simply amazing... I can just imagine what it was like in person.
Wow. Epic. Thanks JFfor giving my car a cameo at 0:54
Such a wonderful drive! May I suggest a couple of drifts on the mountain passes?
No
Did they take any high-res shots of the scene at 9:00? That would be an amazing wallpaper.
Is this the first full-length episode since Drive+ went live?
apparrently yes
people should get over chris harris, he is a great presenter but this was also very enjoyable. there is no need to talk about him on every video!
thank you JF for the longer video!
Finally, the first complete episode worthy of the crew and audience who knows DRIVE well, post DRIVE+.
Great job!
Coming from someone that lives in Cape Town, the end of this video almost made me cry. That Chapmans Peak view is probably my favourite!
I was waiting for this scene from the trailer to come up in a DRIVE video. Absolutely beautiful!

How high are the fences at your home though?
very nice J.F. congrats for the video and the revival of driven series.....these videos are just extraordinary, however still cannot access drive plus from my country (Romania) please fix this issue.Thx for all the videos , and for all the effort that the drive team puts for us.
09:00 where can i download the wallpaper ?

It's amazing where you can get cell reception these days. I made phone calls while standing in the Arctic ocean a couple months ago.
Mark Rose no you didn't.
theokan89 Lol...

Nice vid! Glad to see them this long
Did you guys upload this on the wrong channel? I'm just messing, mad appreciation for an over 3 minute vid on /Drive. :D
great video, but how come not on Drive+, do i need to keep on eye both Drive?
We will upload new, cool content to regular DRIVE as well as Drive +. So to answer your question, yes, stay subbed to both. :)
/DRIVE Please tell us what's the name of the song that starts at 5:00 , it's awsome !!!
Whatever it is it sounds amazing and i want it :)) !
Does anyone know the name of the song at 9:00?
i must have watched this review 5 times, the production quality is excellent
Man driving a RHD vehicle and on the left side of the road would be so freakin awkward
One of the best cars in one of the best countries! Thanks for this awesome review and thanks for giving South Africa a chance!
I was born in Joburg South Africa, i´ve been to Cape Town twice, now i live in Europe, i really miss South Africa!
Sheer beauty ! Just awesome ! Thanks for that piece emotion :)
my home town!! driven all those roads within the past month. Well captured guys!
Nice piece and love the last few shots.
I have fond memories of a trip we took to Cape Town from Joburg in a VW bus with a ford V6 conversion. Radiator overheated and showers us with hot water inside the cabin, fun times in 1992.
People complained about paying $4, that last shot exemplifies why I'm totally willing to pay that measly amount, for such amazing videos!
Breathtaking @ 9:00...can't imagine what it must have been like to see that w/ your own eyes...
I am sure you guys have a few high res photo's of that sunset. Please throw them on Imgur and put the album in the description. PLEASE!
Great video, great script, great shooting. Top banana.
Seven weeks. Seven freaking weeks! All well worth it, to showcase such a beautiful part of the world. The last shot was perfect. Reaffirms what touring is all about!
The look out over the sea/the mountain when the sun appeared.. OMG! Stunningly beautiful.
This looks like an awesome place J.F. I'm envious of your opportunity, car and all.
Huge fan of your work Drive. Thanks for the beautiful scene shots. Drive has convinced me to visit S.Africa one day!
So are you guys going to recycle the same cars the entire season?
The people that are saying that they dont care about the rest of the video and just wanted to see more of the car. You are NOT a driver, you are a a consumer. This is a actual drivers dream. It's about what you see in the car that you choose that makes it all worthwhile.
Nice to see JF and his videos always look better than the others. And this video is longer than 4 minutes, YAY
/DRIVEN has always been my favorite segment. Nice work!
Great car and a great video! Does anyone know what music is playing at 1:30?
Nice Canadian Forces IR (infrared) patch on your right sleeve at 5:38. Looks like a SOF-issue arc'teryx rain jacket. Hmm...
Great video. Great car.
Nice eye, although it wasn't JF's ;)
That's a great piece of film. Never really wanted to go to SA but after watching this its on my bucket list. Was it safe out there?
Gerhard Botha too funny xD Tom Peary its just like any other country, there are areas that are safe and other areas that are more unsafe. I always recommend Cape Town for tourists, lot of different activities in safe areas and like the video suggest lots of scenic views. My favourite is quad biking through the Kogelberg nature reserve mountains run by Naturediscovery.
Tom Peary agree with Gary, much like anywhere else.
GarySandStorm thanks dude always great to get some travel tips. I feel a bit uneducated and slightly silly now. It looks like a beautiful country.
Tom, I am South African. I have lived here all my life.
Just like in USA or Europe or anywhere else, there are safe places and unsafe places.

That view is amazing. Have to add South Africa to my bucket list.

Proudly South African! What a beautiful video! Thank you /Drive
that view at the end was amazing
this is my home town and you did an brilliant job capturing the beauty that comes from South Africa.
Simply an amazing location!
Thank you for filming it!
Beautiful. Right up there with the good old Drive quality.
Was hoping to hear more about the M235i than South Africa.
Damn @9:00 I thought that was CGI for a moment.... almost looked like it was taken out of big Hollywood movie. Also thank you for releasing content that doesn't have to be paid for.
That view at 9:00, all off a sudden...So amazingly beautiful!
I think this is my favourite DRIVE video to date. Great cinematography showcasing some magnificent landscapes.
A beautifully shot video in a beautiful country.
Beautiful. Very well covered
Brilliant insert. Funny how we South Africans take those conditions for granted. It is indeed a beautiful country. I like how you used a Steadicam almost throughout the shoot..even inside the vehicle. It makes the whole thing look pro. Great work.
Great vid. That sunset gave me goosebumps
Breathtaking scenes. Thank you!
Wow no way! 10 minutes!? WOO! It wasn't a very good video, but I respect the 10 minute upload. Thanks alot. Liked.
Wait why was this not on Drive+?
Jf, it's interesting you mention the m235i chassis feeling like an e46 m3, when the 135i first came out I felt the same about that chassis as well, both are very e46 m3 ish, with more modern damping.
Great vid, I've been on all those roads along trips! There is a tunnel up in the mountains too :D
What did you guys think about the vast amounts of mk1 golfs (citi golfs) out in ZA?
love this video, well done guys. We're lucky, south africa is a special place.
I'm picking up an M235i on Monday and can't wait to do some road trips.
Finally, a video where i dont gotta be drive plus, to watch
you guys have become a very close second to top gear and that gap is disappearing with each episode. thanks for this.
This was a good one. Superb photo and sound direction. And JF was cool on it. Longer version on + ?
Very emotional review! Well done guys!
great video and love the BMW M235i I even bought one in red :)
That last scene gave me chills, wow. BMW Enthusiast myself and this was a great review :)
That was amazing, thank you drive.
Absolutely stunning scenery!
Those shots at the end were amazing!
andddd now south africa is on my bucket list
holy shit! a full , FREEE video from drive!
Damn, that made me homesick! Great video!
Gorgerous! Are there lots of supercars in south Africa anyhow?
Much better! A great video
Only reason this is on here and not on Drive+... This video has been brought to you courtesy of BMW...
Great vid JF. I understand why /DRIVE has limited-time videos. Where do I find more information on DRIVE+?
Any chance you guys can make an album from this trip. I'd some HD pictures of that sunset as my background!
Of course the one long video they put up its JF... Not talking about the actual car... Just the scenery... How exciting -_-
At 7:28 that's the place where Quantum solace was filmed and Bond's Aston crashed.
That sunset gave me goosebumps. Sensational!
I always wanted to go to South Africa, and this made me want to go even more!
Is it possible to have the music who starts at 9:00 please ? so wonderful !
Super Proud Saffa....we are blessed with a breathakingly beautifull country...great positive review. Thanks Drive!!!
Epic ending. Love the paint colour on that car
Absolutely stunning!
