    I bought a 2014 228i from carvana. before adding an injen sp, and a few other mods, it was put on the dyno for it's stock performance test.. 278bhp... Also recorded 5.4 on a 0-60 run... Having always owned STi's, Heard the rumors that BMW cars are often rated higher than the claims... This will s my first BMW, but won't be my last.

    In every day driving, but on GOOD roads, the car jiggles and jitters on any Tarmac that is less than perfect. This in comfort mode which also has a varying degree of looseness in steering; firming up a bit with speed. Put sport on and the steering tightens with good heft; but the ride verges on "jumpy" again on GOOD but not perfect roads.
    To be blunt... If you are a "road feel" suspension perfectionist , and you enjoy firm , beefy steering ... And you are NOT A TRACK enthusiast... You MAY be disappointed with the OVERALL way this car rides and handles! ( the above, describing myself)
    The suspension on this car , for the guy who wants a sporty drive on most "decent" to good roads and also wants to feel more "glued down" to the road in question... Will have some dissatisfaction with BMW's suspension tuning on this "track package" 228i. Every time I get into this lovely looking, good accelerating car, I start to wonder" how will the driving experience today leave me feeling"???
    That's not a good feeling by any means!

    • @GreatPerformers1
      @GreatPerformers1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PS... This is a 228i with track handling package

    • @rogergeyer9851
      @rogergeyer9851 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GreatPerformers: with respect, if you're going to buy performance packages like track handling, you should expect a stiffer transmission and worse ride. This is true with all car brands.
      I have a G37. I gave up a very comfortable ride for the performance and handling. Life has trade-offs. Cars are no difference.
      If you want a Mercedes soft ride, then buy an appropriate Mercedes.
      Your complaint is like people who complain about the performance of a Prius. An insect is a different beast than an elephant.

    • @GreatPerformers1
      @GreatPerformers1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your point has some truths but some fallacies. First off, upon release of this model, in retrospect, I noticed a few reviewers mentioning a " jitteriness" to the ride with the m adaptive suspension. I expect , naturally, a firmer suspension and as you say, this is what I have. What I did not expect was to be "jiggled" around in my seat with the TINiEST bit of road imperfection. Theoretically, the suspension ,while absorbing much of these road imperfections, should keep the driver from jumping and swaying with every tiny crack in the Tarmac. Some "kids" like this; I don't .
      As stated, yes, a Mercedes ride lets you feel the road in abundance. However, it also can proceed to go over these minuscule road aberrations while keeping you planted in your seat. So, if you have driven this car, you might indeed understand what I am feeling in this car. You may be right in one sense: ordering the vehicle without the track package. For me now, this is hindsight!

    What would be your personal election between BMW 220i and Audi A3 Sedan S line? Here in Mexico both have 180 HP.
    I like 220's exterior design but I'm a little dissappointed with interior design, dash and materials' quality

    • @diegotroco3990
      @diegotroco3990 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cesg I im trading in a 220i for a M235i becuase the ride its too "jumpy " for me. Don't know about how Audi would feel. I think the interior has quite a good quality compared to the older 1 series, yet the audi interior seems boring to me. But that's just my opinion. The 220i is an amazing car if you like to drive around the city in a comfortable way, but if you are looking for something really sporty the 220i is not the best option unless you get it with an M package. I would never consider buying the Audi, where I live it is more expensive than the 220i (if you want it with an engine that's not a 1.2) but you know, different markets , different choices.

    Navigating/radio/.... Display doesn't look right for such an expensive car, it should look like is part of the dash board ( G37 infinity) it has come along way with electronics.... About time! Yet, am having issues with the heated seats coming on automatically when I don't want them, Radio should be default screen after using nav or ext devices when the car is turn off/on again, updates to the software should be automatic, why do I need a usb device to do it? This is an expensive vehicle while it rides nice still has a lot of catch up to the Japanese instrumentation.

      I put a deposit on a 2016 yesterday, 5 years old it drives like new and has no issues what so ever. Everything Ive seen reliability is great and they age very well. I have a 3 series e46, and it instantly feels so similar and familiar to drive, just way way quicker and smoother power all through the range. Cant wait to pick up the keys and make it my daily drive!

      I have a 228i.. it's faster than any of it's rivals, faster than my 04 WRX STI.. and incredibly nimble.. I bought it purely for it's performance ability... Wasn't a fan of its looks so much... But it grows on you... Of you buy from a dealer, spend 200 bucks for a PPI at BMW so they can check the timing chain... That's the fatal flaw if you buy a 2 series with the N20 engine... If that goes, it takes the engine with it.. But I've had no issues.. Dyno actually showed my car at 276bhp, before I modded it for track use
