      @@Danger017it's fantastic. I've dumped thousands of dollars into it already, and have gone from stock to 430hp and from 4.7 0-60 to nearly 3 flat. It's incredibly modifiable, and the N55 engine is both really solid, and sounds great.
      It's a lot of freaking fun...

    Thank you for the video, it was instrumental in opening my eyes to the M235i product line. After taking a test drive, I was impressed. The handling and ample room influenced my decision to order a BMW over the Jaguar F-type and Audi TT I was considering. At just under $58k, my car was ordered with the optional M exhaust, technology package, drivers assistance package, M performance side sill kit and 438M orbit grey wheels. Although I don't care for the rim colors, I have made arrangements to get these triple chrome plated. It should set off the Melborn Red Metallic paint and black convertible roof. Being from the Shreveport, LA area, I found an outstanding deal in this custom order with BMW of Dallas. Ryan Chong worked out a no hassle deal that was outstanding. Thank you CarThrottle, Ryan and BMW of Dallas.

    Does 5 sec to 60 seem a bit slow to anyone? I understand that acceleration isn't the whole car but when a base model g37 can match or beat you in a straight line despite being heavier and having far less torque then I think something is wrong.

    • @mrcommentator7406
      @mrcommentator7406 10 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      5 seconds is fine for the road. I'm guessing you're from a country like the USA. Here in the UK and Europe roads are a lot more twisty so handling is a big factor. Most car lovers don't care so much for drag racing.

    • @TeamEpsilonRacing
      @TeamEpsilonRacing 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MrCommentator No doubt 5 seconds is fine for the road. There are many fantastic cars that are at the 5 second mark or slower. One of my favorite cars the Nissan Z has a 60 time of about 5 sec. However, that being said I think that 5 seconds is a bit slow for something that is going to cost close to $40k. Especially when you consider that the 435i which has a BMW claimed 0-60 of 5 sec has 30 less hp and torque and weighs a little bit more. I guess what it all boils down to is that I am sure the car handles fantastically no question I was just expecting a better 60 time with the given specs. And yes I am from the United States but I do not care for drag racing much, or Nascar for that matter. I don't know if you have ever been here but there are plenty of curvy roads just as I am sure there are plenty of straight ones in Europe.....

  • @Zillogism
    @Zillogism 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would like to pick a nit on something early in the video.
    There wasn't a BMW named "M135i". There was a 1M and a 135i.
    The next gen of 1 series is now2 series and we get the M235 or the 228i.
    The 135i came originally with the twin turbo N54 engine, and was then replaced with the single twin scroll turbo N55 engine. Both are 3 liter, inline 6 engines.
    The M235i has the N55 single twin scroll turbo engine.
    The 1M had/has the N54 twin turbo engine.
    Thus, it is not the engine as the 1M.
    As for having the same engine as the M135i, well, if that car exists in Europe then perhaps it does. But in the US we didn't have an M135i.
    We had the 135i, and again that car originally came with the N54 and around 2009 it received the N55.

    • @Zillogism
      @Zillogism 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I needed to pay closer attention to what the reviewer was saying. The M135i is NOT a car available in the US market, and that was my point. As I wrote, in my post, "...if that car exists in Europe ,then perhaps it does."
      It is not a model that has been in the US.
      In the US we've only had the 1 and 2 series coupes, not hatchbacks as the M135i is.
      As for Mexico, I am not familiar with that market and am quite surprised that the hatchback is brought to that market.
      As for acting like I know it all, that is just you needing to insult to make yourself appear better or whatever your deal is. If you wanted to correct me, you easily could have without adding the insult.
      There, I hope your ego feels better now. :)
      Take care. Cheers!

    You guys at Car throttle love your bimmers don't you? Well that's fine! However, I sat and drove the M235i this past weekend. Forget about the badging discrepancies, the weird name and all that. Let's focus on the car and the driving experience. I Noted certain failures with Interior quality that I was just unable to overcome. They were so bad. The entire interior is plastic, and this is important not only because you want quality and good materials in a car that costs nearly 50,000 US dollars and I want an interior that has longevity, durability, and beauty. Even the interior of the Similarly priced CLA45 AMG seemed to be more upscale (that's not saying much.) On the road the car felt Agile, responsive, steering was weighted nicely (maybe a little too heavy for my taste) and ride was slightly uncomfortable, expected. No big deal. After driving the CLA45 and Audi S3, I noticed the shifts were great considering it was not a Dual Clutch like the CLA45. Handling limits were feeble compared to the CLA45 and the 235 felt numb, like the S3. Responsiveness from the front wheels to the steering feel was limited to the the slight annoying drumming of the front brakes when I pressed the pedal. That's all I could feel, the front brake calipers sucking. This was annoying. BMW used to make great cars. (E46 M3 comes to mind.) However nowadays, there are some Other German, American, and even Japanese competition that is just doing it better. The CLA45 AMG is a better car, I'm sorry, it just is in my humble opinion. There are other cars too, I mean I don't know, this just seems kind of ridiculous. The 4 series hype was quickly put to rest as well (read Car and Driver April 2014 edition). Too heavy for M cars, Car and driver said the same of the M6. Motor trends comparo between the M5 and E63 showed it's shortcomings. This car, I had to try for myself and it, just didn't do it. I'm sorry. At least if it was built with quality, but I guess because of it's price bmw left that out.

      But the 235i comes with the turboed 3.0L i6...
      That is how they used to name their cars... Now it is the cars series (2) and the relative power output it seems (35); the 235 will be more powerful then the 228.
      So for example in the 3 series the 328 could be had with a 2.0 turbo 4-banger or a 3.0 NA 6 cylinder.

    • @carnut9193
      @carnut9193 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple, the 3L I6 turbo make a power figure closer to that of a 3.5L NA engine, same with the 228i, despite being only a 2L it makes the power of a 2.8L NA engine.

    Best car in the world, except it doesn't have any form of dipstick for the engine oil or the transmission fluid. Might as well just seal down the engine with bolts that only the BMW mechanic is allowed to open = just as well, as everything inside the engine bay is off limits to anyone other than the BMW mechanic anyways.

    • @Zillogism
      @Zillogism 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honesty Counts Nonsense. You can easily change the oil just like on most any car. It has an easy to change oil filter, an easy to remove oil plug, and an easy open cap to the hole where the fresh oil goes.
      The whole "oh my gosh no drain plug, what will we ever do!?" is so mamby pamby cry baby. You know the oil capacity and you know all of it won't come out when you drain it. The N55 takes 7 quarts. X drive variant 8 quarts.
      Put in 6 quarts first, fire up the engine to get it moved around and check with the iDrive gauge. If it shows "min", then a full quart. If not, then leave it alone or add 1/2 quart. Not so difficult even without a dip stick.
      I guess some people think it makes them look cool as they remove the dip stick, look at it, clean it off, put it back in, remove it again and look real close to check that level, adjust, repeat. Oh boy. As for trans fluid...who cares, no really, who cares? Most people never check it anyway and there isn't a reason to do so unless you're going to change the fluid. And if you're going to do that, then you should already know how much you'll need and how to check it. If you don't, then you don't need to look at the level.
