Not a problem. Not everyone understands what twin scroll turbo charging means. And to anyone who doesn't its simply an ingenious means of turbo charging where the end result is the elimination of turbo lag, or close to it. By using two exhaust ports to spool the turbo instead of one, the turbine spins faster and easier.
+Kwezzy Nope still waiting. its just finished production at Leipzig plant yesterday and they're preparing to ship the car. The anticipation is a bitch ha ha :)
a small coupe that offers rear wheel drive, manual, 50/50 weight and I-6cyl engine. intended for people who actually like driving, unlike those rebranded passat's.
I have a new favourite car and its the new 'ultimate driving machine.' Twin turbo straight 6, rwd, and proper manual gearbox....everyone else please take notes.
The front end of that thing looks amazing. I especially like what they've done with the headlights. Might even be the best looking headlights on any BMW at the moment. The whole thing looks pretty great. I like how it looks much more like a miniature 4 series instead of just a 1 series with a longer boot. I'm sure the proper M2 will be fantastic.
I'm just disappointed with the back end. The front end is stunning, but the back end looks like it was penned within the last two days of handing in the final design. I can't really explain it, but the proportions look off and I especially hate the tail lights. Also, the lower valence in black plastic simply looks cheap.
alright to everyone who wants to own a BMW nowadays: if you want the best M5(as E39) get an M4. M3=M2 big sport sadan M5 F10 is a 7 series pretty much! this is how BMW is doing it so just go one number down and you will keep loving BMW.
Thank you for the video, it was instrumental in opening my eyes to the M235i product line. Even though it only has one twin-turbo, after taking it for a test drive I was impressed. The handling and ample room influenced my decision to order a BMW over the Jaguar F-type and Audi TT I was considering. At just under $58k, my car was ordered with the optional M exhaust, technology package, drivers assistance package, M performance side sill kit and 438M orbit grey wheels. Although I don't care for the rim colors, I have made arrangements to get these triple chrome plated. It should set off the Melborn Red Metallic paint and black convertible roof. Being from the Shreveport, LA area, I found an outstanding deal in this custom order with BMW of Dallas. Ryan Chong worked out a no hassle deal that was outstanding. Thank you XCAR, Ryan and BMW of Dallas.
MassiveGlove The BMW is much more responsive and the acceleration is superior. Although, I had to add the M Exhaust to my BMW to get that cracking sound like the F-type. I would recommend taking both for a ride and see what you think. Additionally, if you need to take more than one passenger and a brief case, you will need the room that the M235i offers.
+Dennis Bowser, Jr. have you driven a m135i I currently own one similar spec to yours and am looking for either an m235i or full fat m2 next not sure if I'm sold on the 235i when you look at the m2 next to it. How is the 235i to drive?
I got the M235i F23 convertible and love the way it handles. The M2 has a little more horsepower, but with a tuner chip for around $1k you will have an M235i with superior acceleration and similar handling on a budget. I would suggest you take both for a drive and decide for yourself which one fits your needs best. Best of luck! Dennis
After buying a 2015 M235i, I paid to have the Dinan Stage 1 Tune kit installed. It already had the M Performance Exhaust option (which does not improve performance but sounds fabulous.) NOW: Peak Horsepower 364 @ 5500 RPM Peak Torque 430 @ 3000 RPM IMHO, the US$2000 Stage 1 Tune kit provides the best bang for the buck if you are on a tight budget.
I really like your reviews, on this one you only missed a thing by saying it has two turbos, remember this one has the N55 engine twin scroll single turbo engine, the 1M had the N54 with the twin turbos. I agree in most part that this is a perfect balance and I have yet to drive it.
Hey XCAR-team! First i have to tell you that i appreciate your awesome work. But in this video there's wrong information! The engine is a N55 3.0 Twinscroll Turbo. Only one turbo :)
"need to be an expert to pull off" M cars are the easiest to drive out of any comparable cars. those cars are idiot proof(well not exactly), where ass the regular class cars have the power (and also can be easily tuned), but not the control arms and many other of the suspension and drivetrain parts, not to forget the differential which makes a HUGE difference.
I was about to say "Hey, XCAR, I love you, but don't get sloppy with your data... this is not a twin turbo engine (though is still magnificent).", but I see a lot of people complained already about that.
We need an M2 to reinforce and deliver extreme competitive track cars that covered by warranty and engineered to perfection. If this car is great as you say it is then the M2 will be astonishing! We NEED truly competitive racing components from the factory instead of wandering into the land of aftermarket... Cant wait.

Any chance for a review of the xDrive version of the M235i in a near future?
Great review. I do love the looks of the front end as well as the side profile, but the back end is not that nice imo. Overall, seems like a great little sports car.
Lots of different opinions here...point being this M235i is after all a BMW....I went from a 320i to the M235i...I test drove a 135i Special Addition..inline 6 efi...this M235i in my opinion drives much nicer...and for the price and fuel mileage...I'm not complaining...as I said it is a BMW ....
Guys, vid is great, aspecially direction, and the presenter. Provide more engine note (from interior and exterior) and Your work will be a real masterpiece.
beautiful back end, beautiful silhouette, beautiful flow... and then there's the headlights and the front spoiler... and it all goes wrong :/ it's a very pretty car if you never look at it from the front...
***** twin power doesn't mean twin turbo...@1:30 its actually a twin-scroll single turbo setup.... www.bmw.ca/ca/en/newvehicles/2series/coupe/2013/showroom/driving_dynamics/index.html
They should never get rid of the manual transmission. I don't give a crap about how fast the new transmissions shift. When you shift those gears yourself, you're so much more involved with you car.
THIS IS NOW AVAILABLE IN XDRIVE! I drove this vehicle today at my local dealer. I saw it on my local dealers website last nite and I thought WOW this is available in xdrive and with electronic dampening? I got on BMW's website and decked out an xdrive with $10k options and it still cane in over 20k cheaper than an RS5 I had planned on buying. I decided to drive it for the experience; I expected to like it not. I drove it and I kinda liked it. Then I drove an X5 50i v8 turbo; I can afford either, I liked it. I then thought that it was a wash as far as how I enjoyed them "each in a different way". I drove the M235i Xdrive again and I fell in love with the damn car. After many test drives I can't seem to trade in my Audi S5 due to my auto needs. Recent cars that don't hold a candle imo M4,M3,Audi S6, all driven in rain. Where I live it rains and snows and rear wheel drive cars are scary in winter. I want performance in all conditions I WANT IT ALL. I also like and crave sophistication and precision all of which I observed in the M235i Xdrive. BMW hit a home run with the Xdrive M235i!
Chris Gamba I reside in Indiana where we deal with rain and snow for half of the year. I want to drive performance vehicles year round so I am biased. Nonetheless you are mistaken in your assumption that the added weight of xdrive or awd somehow offsets any advantages they achieve in performance. I cut my teeth on RWD and I understand that too much horsepower on 2 wheels REGARDLESS of the intelligent differentials available causes accidents and very scary moments. It is also very difficult to get all of the available power down in powerful RWD cars on acceleration. Most of the current vehicles with way too much horsepower and 2WD have the ecu's limiting the horsepower as traction is gained. In an AWD high performance vehicle all of the power can be used resulting in superior 0-60 times. In the rain the AWD is still capable of rapid controlled acceleration, do that in a 2WD performance car... wait no keep it in the garage while the real performance cars are on the road. imo
I agree about the M2 being a bit redundant in this context. I am going to order an M4 Gran Coupé after the summer but this would be my #2 choice by all means. PS: Nice review but you could add some warrior shots making the thing oversteer a little, this isn't a Toyota Avensis...

SovietDoge (Reddit Rhodium User) I guess I am crazy. It does look better proportionally, looked meaner and more muscular with more character. New 2er is rather boring imho.
it doesn't have 2 turbos it has twin scroll turbo. it is the N55B30 engine which is also on 535i . Only S55 on new m3 and m4 have 2 turbos. So much for a good review..
NO, it does not have "two turbos". It has a single turbo with two scrolls. Twin scroll turbo chargers split the exhaust into two channels, separating the incoming exhaust pulses. This maximizes the efficiency of the turbocharger,.
I wonder, will they ever revive the M Roadster and the M Coupe? Yes, some people want the sleeper look but for the price? Some people also want the looks. The M Roadster and the M Breadvan provided that.
We need more power, we need LSD, we need wide fenders, we need more aggressive front/rear bumpers, we need the quad exhaust pipes, we need a better sound... In short, we need an M2.
Will we be getting the M performance packs in the UK at all? I saw a video of an american guy showing off an M235i car with carbon fibre exhaust tail pipes, active exhaust system, forged wheels, and the M steering wheel with the rev counter on. Some of them look like a deal maker to me but when I went to build one of these on the BMW website there wasn't any of those options or packs to put on.
oh and they had lower front and rear spoilers and side skirts. It looked the mutts nuts haha! Don't like the back end on this doesn't have enough muscle for me... that could be totally misconstrued haha
Great car, however if I went for this I couldn't leave it stock, throw on some lightweight wheels, Michelin PSSs, and probably an upgraded FMIC and HFC DP.
I have a 2013 135i Msport PKG. Goes back next year to BMW to be likely replaced by M235I Xdrive CNV. I really like my 135i Mpkg. 0-60 in 4.9. 316hp, DSG 7 spd. Best handling BMW , aside from 1M coupe, and aside from M pure BMWs, nest accelerating. Small, tight, grippy, responsive. Excellent car overall. When 1 series came out I looked at them as BMW clown cars. Small 3 series. But they stand on their own as heirs to my all time favorite BMW 1970's 2002.
This car has one, twin scroll turbo. Not two.
Dan the man thank for pointing this out, I'm tired to hearing the N55 being called twin turbo.

I agree. I own an E92 which I love, but if I wanted to upgrade I think the 2 looks much nicer than the 4 series. especially the front.
I'm just disappointed with the back end. The front end is stunning, but the back end looks like it was penned within the last two days of handing in the final design. I can't really explain it, but the proportions look off and I especially hate the tail lights. Also, the lower valence in black plastic simply looks cheap.
BMW is back to what it does best.Great review.
I have a 2021 M235 with zero problems and a lot of fun to drive.
He should've joined Rebecca Jackson and Mat Watson to take the reins of Top Gear UK. He's definitely one of the best car reviewers I've watched.
+XCARFilms You and Chris Harris
+William K Now behold how Chirs Evans ruin the reboot. Even aided by Chris Harris and legendary Sabine Schmitz, an idiot is an idiot.
My thoughts exactly. I drove it for a few minutes, came back and signed the papers. It's such a fun car.
1:29 Its not twin turbo. The M235i has the N55 motor which uses a single, twin-scroll turbo.
The m2 also uses the n55 engine
That is twin turbo.
But in the m235i it is twin scroll single turbo
1:16 "the 1 series has a face only a mother could love" hahaahahaha my thought exactly!!
Im a couple months away from mine -.- cant stop watching videos
This is how the 1 series hatch should look in the front! Very very nice! And of course they should make a proper M version!
THIS DOES NOT HAVE 2 TURBOS.
Can't wait to put in my order later this year.
Drove one of these on Saturday...was a complete blast. A lot like BMW's of the past.
Awesome car. Love it, I think it channels the E46 M3 spirit.
Driving my 123d for 6 years now very satisfactory...... Seeing this>>>>Want one desperately

100% agree
How the heck could an M4 substitute for an M5? You're missing 2 doors. You would go down to an M3 saloon.
Thank you for the video, it was instrumental in opening my eyes to the M235i product line. Even though it only has one twin-turbo, after taking it for a test drive I was impressed. picked up my car last month. feeling so far so good. though it's not an "M", while looking at the performance and price, i love it.
@1:30 'two turbos' I think you meant twin scroll turbo which is a single turbo.
you know this is for the first time i like this Guy review! great job i really mean it not because BMW.
Interesting new car. I liked 1 series coupe and I like this, too.
Correction, in case no one said it before, it has a n55 engine which is a "single" twin scroll turbo. so is only one turbo :)
yeaaaaah for 6-speed manual. way to go!
Your right about that buddy. Good luck and I hope you find a sweet BMW!
A classic setup for a good drivers car.. been done over and over again

this ll be like the 90s m3, light, fast, fun...
At 1:30 he says it's a twin turbo 3 liter, but doesn't this car have the same N55 as the 335 and 435 which is single turbo?
Hey XCAR-team! First i have to tell you that i appreciate your awesome work. But in this video there's wrong information! The engine is a N55 3.0 Twinscroll Turbo. Only one turbo :)
I would rather get this than the GT-R. It's RWD, rides softly at comfort mode.
Beautifully done video.
Im picking my one up on sat...... Cant wait :0)
1:25 Have BMW brought back the proper twin turbo I6 or is it still the twin scroll single, as he said twin turbo. N54 > N55
where was this filmed? beautiful landscape and for some reason looks familiar to me
Your talking or commentary rhyme so nice. You are awesome.....

Someone in my neighbourhood owns the X-drive variant in red
it looks amazing
They never sold the X drive version in the UK, that's cheating anyway. I've had a manual proper RWD one for 2 years.
I CAN'T WAIT TO BUY THIS CAR!!!!!!
Keep up the good work
Great video guys!

finally a review that isnt 1 year late
It is a two way turbo, not twin turbo, the twin turbo engine is the n54 for 2008-2010 bmw 135i and bmw 1M.
Guys, vid is great, aspecially direction, and the presenter. Provide more engine note (from interior and exterior) and Your work will be a real masterpiece.

WeirdoWithABeirdo84 Amen.
The M2 is coming, so BMW really needs to release an M2.
The M235i and XI we're especially brilliant all purpose
1:26 M235i has two turbos? Don't think so.
Are we going to get 3 box 4 door version? I really like the boot...
Good review, thanks!
wait is this a twin turbo? or the "twinpower" twin scroll single turbo?
single turbo* not twin turbo.

Yes! I WANNA GET ON IT!!!
I agree about the M2 being a bit redundant in this context. I am going to order an M4 Gran Coupé after the summer but this would be my #2 choice by all means.
PS: Nice review but you could add some warrior shots making the thing oversteer a little, this isn't a Toyota Avensis...

I liked the 1 series :(
Agreed, much better looking proportionally that this new 2 series...until hopefully/eventually the M2 comes out and blows our socks off.
AR8445 It was ugly as hell. ReticentIndignation You are crazy if you think it looks better "proportionally".
SovietDoge (Reddit Rhodium User) I guess I am crazy. It does look better proportionally, looked meaner and more muscular with more character. New 2er is rather boring imho.
ReticentIndignation you are part of an overwhelming minority.
Doesn't matter in the end, if it helps BMW great. I'm happy with my 135i.
I quite like it, and I don't really go for BMW that much. If I ever get one it might just be a 235i.
so you actually lowered the intro volume, good!
Does anyone know why the gas pedal is offset to the left?
it doesn't have 2 turbos it has twin scroll turbo. it is the N55B30 engine which is also on 535i . Only S55 on new m3 and m4 have 2 turbos. So much for a good review..
If BMW makes X5M and X6M, they have to make an M2 to save face. The M2 will probably have everyone dreaming of the old M3s, just as the 1M did.
"The 1 series has a face only a mother could love". THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS.
NO, it does not have "two turbos". It has a single turbo with two scrolls. Twin scroll turbo chargers split the exhaust into two channels, separating the incoming exhaust pulses. This maximizes the efficiency of the turbocharger,.
Correction: uses a twin scroll turbo...not the same as twin turbo. It's really only one turbine unit but with two exhaust gas inlets.

Been saving for a new car for a while and im between the M235i and the 435i with M sport package. Anyone have an argument for one over the other?
..I need an M2.
i must be the only person in the world that thinks that the 1 series looks really good... btw great car even though i'd much prefer an older 1m coupe
Will we be getting the M performance packs in the UK at all? I saw a video of an american guy showing off an M235i car with carbon fibre exhaust tail pipes, active exhaust system, forged wheels, and the M steering wheel with the rev counter on. oh and they had lower front and rear spoilers and side skirts. It looked the mutts nuts haha! Don't like the back end on this doesn't have enough muscle for me... that could be totally misconstrued haha
3 liter inline 6 turbo is under-powered, no? Maybe it has a flatter torque but shouldn't the power output be somewhere easily north of 350 hp?
does this car rev match for down shifts?
with wider body stance this one will look really bad ass!!
Well now that the 2016 M2 has debuted, you can definitely see why the M2 is necessary over the M235i
Umm... struggling to see that- which is why BMW still have loads of order slots left I guess
Great car, however if I went for this I couldn't leave it stock, throw on some lightweight wheels, Michelin PSSs, and probably an upgraded FMIC and HFC DP.

jamesey271975 It is.
