Idk what people have against ceiling fans, they're extremely functional both in summer and winter, and are cheaper than AC. Who cares if they're trendy or not? There are so many styles to pick from so it's not as if it has to clash.
I have wanted one in our bedroom sense we moved into our home 11 years ago and my husband say no. We do have a pitch ceiling and no light there, but he would not do one in our old home and it was a normal ceiling. I think he doesn’t like the idea of a fan over the bed🤷♀️ we have A/C and I think it would help save on our bill.

Huge fan of the fan,🤣. They move the air around and keep it lovely and cool in our humid climate. There are some lovely styles. We have ones where the blades fold away.

I'm not judging cuz I have a fan in almost every room in my house cuz i live in florida so they're practical but they're uglyyy... they're not horrible but def not as pretty as 50 different light fixtures that I can think of off of the top of my head😂😂😂😘
I use oil scents on my pine cones and put them on the table ,they make the room smell great.
Ceiling fans are a MUST for me!! LOL Especially in my bedroom. I looooove sleeping with the bedroom nice and cold and me under a good heavy quilt, ALL year long!! A ceiling fan is a must for me 😊
In the old days like three months ago you could do a long video and no one commented on the length. Now everybody wants everything in nine minutes or less. Preferably 90 seconds. So I think you did a nice job. I don't know what is wrong with this world. They want everything instantly if not yesterday. Good job. Thank you

I painted the ceiling fan in my bedroom the same color as the ceiling and the walls. It blends in and looks so much better. I live in sunny California where the weather is warm, or hot most of the time, so a ceiling fan is a must.
WOW! That trick with the bread bag has been around for years but I'm so pleased you showed it to others. My mother-in-law showed me how to do it a hundred years ago and I showed my daughter. Then I showed my granddaughter. That is just the greatest. I felt like something I shared had made it all around the world. (Big Smile). Knowledge is to be shared, afterall.
Regarding left over paint storage, I think using a jar is fine, but if you have quite a bit of paint left over you can store it in one of these medium to large plastic bottles designed for liquid laundry soap. Save one and make sure there is no soap left at the bottom by cleaning it thoroughly. Then transfer your left over paint in the bottle. It has a beek which makes it very useful to control the paint quantity you want to use.

Hi, very informative, thank you! There is a hack for cleaning rags/cloths that are best used in designsted areas , i.e. cloths to clean toilets not used for the sinks etc so colour coding is a good way to keep them apart. There is a great way to remember: Green for cuisine, blue for loo, pink for sink and mustard for dusters. X
Good idea. I use paper towels in cleaning the toilet because I don't like using on them cloth I use in other parts of house. Now I can use cloth using your suggestion. Thanks.

I always save my twist ties. They're very handy for hanging wreaths and making bows. They're great in the garden you , can use them to tie up a branches and tomato stems. And I always use them to hang decorations on my garden gate.
They're also good for making extra electronics cords nice and neat
Ive used twist ties for many things also. Those, chenille stems, and cable ties, I use quite frequently.
I've been doing the bread twist for a long time. I find it helpful to squeeze some of the air out before you twist. Then I put the loaf in the cabinet. Less air and storing in a dark place really extends the life of the bread.
I suck the air out first… Never have dry bread nd No mold
For the stovetop potpourri I use the citrus peels & cinnamon sticks. That way it still smells nice & I don’t waste the fruit that we could eat. 🍋🍊
For the floral frog (grid) I use a small square of chicken wire and roll into a ball to fit the vase/bowl. Works like a charm! 😉

I save older pillows, bed pillows, wash them …then cut them to use as pillow forms. Also use to fluff up pillows need adjustments. Love your tips.

I wouldn't recommend olive oil for the cutting board. Olive oil will turn rancid. I oil my boards with mineral oil every few months to keep them in great shape. Love all the other hacks--actually went in my closet and hung my 2 maxi dresses on double hangers before the end of the video!!
Coconut oil works great, too, without going rancid! Plus it has antibacterial properties. Treat your wooden spoons, etc while you are at it.
Did you try the tape? Mine was a mess, did not do a thing to hold up the stems...came off the sides

@Kathy A coconut oil does so go rancid faster then any other oils.. Have you ever smelled rancid coconut oil. I have. I made bath bombs for a craft fair/show and we finished to the show, packed up . I had to put some in the trunk of my neices car as she would take them back to the shop the next day. Well she remembered two days later about the bath bombs. I opened one to see if it was good cause it got so soft and omg they were rancid. The smell can make you sick. We live in South Louisiana with 93° Temps. that has alot to do with it as well as the age of the oil.

Here in South Texas it is a Must to have/use a ceiling fan.
I've been painting for many years, ( and I'm in my 60's) ..the " paint hack " has been around since I was in my late 20's... but for the younger ones, I guess it's helpful. Also stored my paint tray, rolkers, everything in large clear trash bags, ready for the next day.
I also used the Mason Jars, with the sealing lids to store paint, keeps it fresh. Us older folks know most of the " hacks", lol. But for those who are not acquainted with Life Hacks, it's a good video.
I'm discovering that being older is awesome. 🌸🙂
I only watched part of this. Some of her information is not suited for everyone that's definite. I stopped watching when she was talking about using day light bulbs in her kitchen for that white, bright look. I like a white, bright light everywhere, or there's just no point IMO. So, I use white, bright bulbs, which are brighter than daylight ones I find. You are absolutely correct, Texas Stardust, her ideas are definitely more toward "younglings" and those that were not taught things growing up I suspect. My son, younger than she, just bought his first home, and he's been using paint hacks like she's shown.
I started laughing when she thought the walnut erased her scratches off her floor when in fact it just stained them, but this should have been titled common sense for dummies.
I’m an empty nester now and truly appreciate the paint hacks. I never had the time when kids were younger for DIY (weekend rodeo competition- trips with the family etc…) thanks For the paint hacks and such…
It’s not an age thing, it’s a class and an interest thing. Wealthier people do not paint their own homes so they don’t need to know how to store paint. Some wealthier people maybe enjoy diy so they do know. When people in their 60s were young, the living wage was higher so there are lots of older people too who have never needed to know how to store paint until now. Younger people these days are the first generations in history who don’t have a better life / better prospects than their parents did, so they need all these “life hacks” that maybe they didn’t learn from their wealthier parents. Plus the global recession means more older people will have to learn for the first time as well. I’m sure it’s not news to anyone who grew up lower or middle working class who had to paint their rooms themselves.
When I was a young wife, many years ago, I used so much golden oak stain...not for fun projects but for very vintage furniture pieces that were given to us by my husbands great aunts and uncles! Have you used gel stain? Wow it is great!

I first heard about this from my grandmother in the early 2000s. She told me her mom would boil something on the stove to make the house smell good. I asked her what she put in there but she said she didn't know so as the years went by I found out online and put the two together. I knew she mentioned something about using orange peels so when I do this it's a nice memory of her and the great grandmother I never got to meet. ❤

I absolutely loved the bread bag hack...not using the plastic ties. Great idea!
I bought a lot of different size plastic clips from Amazon and they're quick and easy to clip on any part-used bags. They work on the tougher freezer bagged stuff too. The bread one only really works when you've used nearly half of the loaf and have a good turn back. The tying the "handles" on the chip/crisp bags looks tricky and I'd probably end up with them all on the floor ..lol.

Some really great ideas. On the cutting board, you should consider using either mineral oil or a beeswax-based cutting board conditioner. Food-based oils go rancid and that rancidity will be impregnated into the wood of your board. Over time, that can become very unpleasant.

When you live in Texas it's a must to have Ceiling fans in all the rooms. Good luck when your central goes out in the summer. 🥵
I like the glass jar for left over paint, however, I would take a pic of the bar code/color off the actual paint can, so if you ever need the paint store to mix more, you would have the exact color.
I tried this before I saw this hack and the paint just dried up. I was shocked. It had only been in there for a few months. At your paint or hardware store you can buy inexpensive small paint cans for leftovers. Jars aren’t air tight evidently.
@@elizzievb Amazon sells those small black plastic paint cans to store your pain. My SIL got them and reduced his paint stash by 3/4!

Hi Liz, I watched every single “hack” and wow, I learned so many new easy ways of doing things. My favorite was the light bulb that you put in your lamp but you didn’t have an outlet. What a unique, useful hack that I will definitely be trying. I am building a new home that will be ready in a couple of weeks. The living room is 26 feet long so I will have to “float” the two sofas and they will not be close to the outlets. This is where your idea 💡 using this particular light bulb will save the day. These bulbs last 3 to 4 hours. Then you will need to either plug the lamp in somewhere else or remove the bulb and place them into a socket somewhere with power to recharge them. They were designed for power outages.

They also make battery powered LCD lamps too where the batteries last a long time because lcd uses such little power.

Love that you’re picking up things at the thrift store like your baskets. They do make some of the other things that you’ve purchased in plastic- in wood- that are easy to find at the thrift store. I think we should be very careful to not be adding more microplastics to the environment and to our bodies. No reason to disrupt the hormones and reproductive systems of babies by continuing to buy plastic. Yay for thrift stores!
My mother has been using walnuts for ever to hide scratches. It's the oil in them that helps hide stain the scratch. :)

That towel folding hack reminds me of the way we used to fold notes in school, and we didn’t roll them. I love it! I roll my towels, but have to stack them so carefully so they don’t flop open.
Some great tips! Never heard of rubbing a walnut onto wood scratches, will have to try it. I too would not recommend treating cutting boards with olive oil. Use food grade mineral oil instead. Mineral oil soaks into the wood without going rancid.

where do you find food grade mineral oil?
The walnut works on non-food wood because of the natural oils in it. Although walnut oil is edible, it goes rancid very quickly. That doesn’t matter on furniture, but can well ruin your cutting board or wooden utensils. Use plain mineral oil on them, instead.

I found a scratch on our costly Amish dining table 😢 and tried this walnut trick 😄. It didn’t remove the scratch but made it less noticeable. I have to look for the scratch now.

I love ceiling fans. They save so much in energy costs and you can have cooling going on in just the room(s) you want. I just don’t have ones with lights. Less bulky looking that way.

That walnut hack is awesome. I think it works because of the oil in the walnut and walnut stain is made from the shells. Boil them in water till you get the desired color. I've put rocks or gravel in the bottom of my plant pots. It works really well.

The Glad wrap works well on any ice cream containers too! Helps keep freezer burn at bay!
So do ziplock bags! I put my ice cream pints in those once I’ve opened a container and no freezer burn or ice crystals!

Depends on the light bulb. Be sure & check how long each type lasts before buying. Ours don't last as long as I thought.

If you use a mallet to put your paint can back on, it won't flatten out the lid and will come off nice and easy. :). Love the walnut hack, it actually works. I was astounded.
I don’t think the walnut removes the Mark/scratch, it fills it.

I have some additions to the hacks you presented… as a daughter of a home ec major my mom was always had tips and tricks for stuff around the house.
1. The bread tie hack(before twisting) suck all of the air out of the bread sack. I use a fat straw. It’s the exposure to air that makes food go bad. Then twist and flip as normal.
2.) Where did you find the black leather backpack purse with the white stitching?
3.) Put painter’s tape on board before drilling to stop splits in the wood.
I’ve wrapped ends of bread with the wrapper for years. This is the first time I’ve seen anyone else do it!

I agree with you, sheffi100.. . these hacks are ones that I can see working. Near 100 % of them. Many other people's hacks that I've seen being done on videos, and that I hear about without a video, I just can't believe nor imagine as working. Usually then , if I give those ones a try, they fail, unsurprisingly.

I have a tip for hanging sweaters to avoid getting little bumps on the shoulders. Just flip the sleeves up over the shoulders. It's usually the weight of the sleeves that makes those little bumps. Of course, if you can afford the fancy padded hangers then you won't have that problem ..lol.

Me too! My hallway is so dark and the only thing I can do is turn on a very bright overhead light, which I hate bc the light goes under the door where there is a day sleeper, so I always have to put a towel down to block the space under the door-so ugly!
I like to use clothes pins on my chip, cereal, and frozen vegetable bags. I was thinking about spray painting or staining them to make them look better. I love most of these hacks, Thanks Liz !!

What style homes do you have
For the floral arrangement, I use some foam the dish under the tape. This gives extra stability and keeps the flowers and greenery a little more secure.
The walnut removing scratches works on furniture too.
We love our ceiling fans and they are always on low with the central air. The air runs less and we stay cool. For your paint, have the paint store run two extra paint labels for your paint. Keep a notebook that you keep paint colors/manufacturer of the paint you are using and put one of those paint formula stickers in the notebook for each room. If you are storing your leftover paint in a jar or a purchased smaller container, write the room name on the jar and put the sticker on that jar. That way, should you need to purchase more paint, the formula for the paint is right there.

The soap hack in the bathroom. Instead of putting plain bars of soap, you could also make your own diy label for the soap, just to give it a bit of personalization. We have 9 grandkids and I used to make soap under the name of 9 Angles Soaps, the labels were so easy and fun to make. You can do that for any soaps you wish to display. The labels don't have to be bold as I like the subtle ones more, but bold can be beautiful as well.
I thought different size and shaped soaps would have been more interesting than all the same.

This is so great since I've been cleaning and organizing everything since xmas!!!!
The possible problem when using glass jars for paint is - they break. I make sure the lid is firmly on the paint tin and simply store it upside down in a plastic tray/box the paint creates it’s own seal if there is a spill the box catches it. I’ve probably been lucky but I’ve never had one spill yet.
Especially in California, if it’s not bolted or glued down in someway; it can be a danger.
The paint hack makes sense because Saran Wrap works for pudding if you push it down on top of it, it won't form a "skin" on top!
It works for gravy too.
I live in an pld that doesn't have outlets where you need it. It's a beautiful home. Will try these bulbs. Thanks
