    My grandmother cleaned her huge wood chopping block with lemon and salt. This also works wonderfully on brass

      Jeanne: And, also on copper, as in the old antique copper teapots. On a plate sprinkle a good amount of table salt so that there is a "bed" of salt. Next, roll the lemon on the kitchen counter using pressure to soften it. Cut the lemon in half, and rub the lemon half in the salt bed. Keep rubbing...sooner or later the lemon and salt will begin to wear away the patena and dirt build up. I used this method twice back in the late 1950's and into the early '60's to clean my small collection of all pure copper teapots...one of which is dated 1889, England. It was a very hard chore back then and I'm pretty sure there are products that would ease up for the hands and wrists in today's world. The method I gave above is what I saw live on a local TV show in the early 1980s Good luck cleaning your copper for the Holiday.

    You can also mix dawn with white vinegar [about 1 portion of dawn to every 2 portions of vinegar]. warm them in a saucepan or in your microwave for a few second just so the vinegar will combine with the dawn. Put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray your shower doors, tiles, etc. and leave on for 15-30 minutes, then just wipe it off! All those water stains will slide away! You can also clean your burner covers with this mix by spraying them with the mixture and putting them in a plastic bag over night. Hope that helps someone. :) Learned it on TH-cam!

    I have found though that using Future on lenolium floors is better than regular floor wax. It's an acrylic. It doesn't yellow, floors can be washed easily with a very light soap solution, and you never have to try to get it off with ammonia, which will take the finish right off the lenolium. If that has already happened, that can be rectified with Future as well. JMO Retired long time housekeeper.

    Some very good tips. For me, the best is using a seam ripper to get hair, etc. out of the vacuum beater brush! I’ll have to try the “Magic Scrubber” sponges on my oven door/window. I saw a video that recommended using baking soda & vinegar, but it didn’t touch the mess on the window & inner door frame. my husband dropped a frozen pizza while putting it in the preheated oven and it landed upside down on the glass. It was way too hot to try to wipe it off, so he went ahead with baking, and further baked on the pizza cheese! I have yet to find a “best” way to get it clean!

    At 21:43, the cleaning solution is called TSP, Tri Sodium Phosphate, not tsp as in a measuring unit.TSP is used to clean, it is actually a light abrasive cleaner, strips the dirt off the item you are cleaning a little, allowing you to repaint, giving the surface a texture for paint to adhere to. If you use TSP, use the red label and hot water, then rinse, the red label won't make you work as hard in scrubbing. Be sure to rinse after washing with TSP.

    The secret to tubs and showers is cleaning them after each use. It sounds way harder than it is. I keep a microfiber cloth and bottle of bleach *gel* (with precision nozzle) in a small shelf set in my bathroom. I can be in the shower with the water running and run the bleach gel over the caulking and do a quick wipe of the tiles or tub. Takes 60 seconds and i don’t have to scrub or wipe every single surface since it will get wiped again tomorrow. Wring the cloth well after each use, then throw the cloth in the wash once a week (it stays sanitized due to the bleach.) I never have mold in the caulking or a mildew ring anymore, and I don’t need to do a deep cleaning on my hands and needs once a week like I used to. Learned this by watching a video on Japanese culture where it’s common to clean the tub after every use and now I can never go back!

    • @dmed99
      @dmed99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      so dangerous.... Bleach is toxic; bad to breathe or get near your skin..also bad for the environment! I agree that cleaning after each use is the best way to keep things clean. I disagree with the use of bleach.

    ....I have always cleaned my rugs outside,... using either Dawn dish soap, mixed with baking soda and very warm or hot water... doesn't take a lot of this mixture. Rinse well with pressure setting on hose attachment. I then pour diluted white vinegar then rinse , hang to dry over a sturdy area ( I use blanket racks or a fence ) . You can also use Folex , which requires no " last water rinse ", and takes out everything.
    I actually clean my lamp shades ( unless they are really fancy ) in the bath tub, I just spray lightly with a mild cleaner, ( vacuum first if lots of stuff on it ) and use warm water with the shower hose on a gentle setting. Works beautifully. ( you don't use the bathtub to soak them or anything. Just to spray the mild cleaner and rinse with very warm water . ,)

    Please be mindful of where all this waste water goes after cleaning and either adjust your formulas to be non-toxic or add proper disposal tips to the instructions. If it goes into the storm drains, it usually goes into the local creeks. This is not okay. If you understand that it will kill your grass, just extend that out to what it will do to the creeks and surrounding areas.

      Honestly, you could just put a wet (but not "soaked") sponge or dishcloth in the microwave for 1 minute and it still does the trick - no lemon or bowl needed and the germs in sponge/cloth get killed, too. To boot, you can wipe out the microwave with that same sponge/cloth. Super simple. I read it in a cleaning book that I was gifted years ago when I was a teen. Wish I still had it, but I have no idea where it is or who it was by.

      I found a MARVELOUS product that whitens whites without ANY of the damages caused by bleach. It must be used on all white fabrics though. OUT White Brite Laundry Whitener. I uave restores countless white wedding gowns created with multiple types of fabrics as well. Gowns and/or other clothing MUST have no embellishments on them that could be damaged by the removing a nacre or finish. If neceessary, carefully remove the embellishments and clean them with a milder method, reattaching them to the garment after it is completely cleaned and washed and dried.

    I'm about 10-11 months late to this video, but I have something to say about it. As someone that buys Bar Keepers friend regularly, I just had to let you and everyone know that Bar keepers is NOT $6.xx a bottle! I buy all 3 types of Bar keepers (powder, the creamy liquid and the spray) and the power is $1.50-$2 (dollar general and menards sell it), the creamy type is about $2.50-$2.99, and the spray is $3.99 at most. (Menards puts Bar keepers friend on sale many times throughout the year.) I don't recommend buying it on Amazon, it's super overpriced... but if you have well water that is rather rusty, I HIGHLY recommend the powder kind for your sinks and the creamy type for your tub and shower. I also recommend that you use a scrub brush or scrubbing pad with this product, and gloves are a MUST! Bar keepers will destroy your hands.

    The problem with #18 is that using a "tape" lint roller will leave a slight residue of adhesive, which will then attract/keep more dust. Tape rollers should only be used on items that can be thrown in the wash (to remove the adhesive residue).

    In Tropical North Queensland we get a lot of mould and to get rid of mould permanently we use water with added cup of cleaning white vinegar and a couple of teaspoons of eucalyptus oil to wash surfaces down THEN take a damp cloth and add clove oil or clove bud oil and rub over the surfaces. Clove oil is the best way to get rid of mould spores permanently and is pretty cheap. Bleach is only a temporary not a permanent solution.
