When my children were young, I used items from DT to create Are We There Yet packages for our trips. Besides the road map I printrd out for them, which was educational, I also filled brown paper bags with various treats, games, etc. Each bag was numbered to correspond with how many hours we had left on our trip. At each hour, they got to open the bag. They always had something to look forward to, and this made the trip fun for everyone.

I did something very similar when my boys were young. My sister and I would travel together to our parents 16 hrs with her daughter and we would buy small toys, books or games to unwrap every hour while in the car. They each had their own bag to keep them in. We would rewrap them for the trip home.

@mercy2198 We frequently took road trips. I made a binder for each child, and on the cover was a map showing our route. They learned to read road signs and estimate travel time, etc. I filled the binder with printable activity sheets that pertained to the trip (mazes, word searches, coloring pages, etc.) To this day, our adult sons travel with us and look forward to whatever road trip fun Mama has planned! 😉 It's not the destination; it's the journey.

Because of plastics and foam breaking down and getting in our soli, I now fill the bottom of my pots with pine cones. They condense together with the weight of the soil, so use more than you think you need. If you aren’t worried about the plastic, fill your pots with water bottles, used plastic cups etc which saves you the expense of buying pool noodles.

One of my favorite Dollar Tree hacks is using those storage bags they have near the cleaning section (they come in medium, large and x--large). I use the x-large size to keep my seasonal wreaths dust and bug free and store them in my shed or attic until the next holiday. They can also be hung up since they have a section at the top for hanging.

My favorite dollar tree hack: so we had a really bad wind storm a few months back that ripped the canvas right off of our gazebo 😢. We haven’t gotten around to replacing it. So I thought in the meantime I can use it to hang some old nasty vinyl blinds that we were going to replace and clean them. I used some zip ties from the. Dollar tree to attack the blinds to the bar on the gazebo. Then used some all purpose cleaner (also from the dollar tree) and the car wash mitt thingy, also from the DT to wipe it down. Then used the hose to rinse them off. Then just let them hang to try. This cleaned them so well that we didn’t have to replace them. I was able to do 4 at once using the gazebo. I think you could use the over the door hooks and hang them on the fence to. Note- we don’t typically let our blinds get so dirty, but we recently bought the house and the dirty blinds came with the house. Regular cleaning and dusting wasn’t cutting it so we were saving up to replace them. This worked so well, we can hold off and put that money elsewhere. 😊

I foster abandoned/orphaned kittens and I use the ice cube trays to freeze pedialyte. The bottle of pedialyte only has a 48 hour shelf life after it's been open and the kittens can't consume that much pedialyte in 48 hours so after I open the bottle and use it for one day I take the rest and pour it into the ice cube trays and freeze. Once they are solid I pop them out of the tray and store in a ziploc bag and when I need a couple of cubes for their formula, I take them out a couple hours before I'm going to make their formula and let them meltdown at room temperature. Another hack I do using Dollar tree doggy poop bags is I use them to put the waste from the litterbox in. In Massachusetts plastic shopping bags are banned in 98% of the cities/ towns so I can no longer use them for cleaning the litterbox but I found the doggie poop bags work just as well and I don't need to worry about any pesky holes in the plastic shopping bags

My favorite hack is to use the screw off handle from a Dust pan and super glue a scotch Brite to the handle. Cut scotch Brite in half and glue half sponge pointed out , half Scotch Brite pointed out. I use this to clean behind toilet, high corners above shower and anywhere I can't easily reach. More and more as I get older.

My favorite hack is using a refillable wand dish scrubber and fill it with 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 dish soap to use in the bathroom shower and sink to scrub and clean the grime away.

    • @voguevania
      @voguevania 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I do that for my sinks, but I haven't done it for the shower yet. Recently I bought a few clear pitchers from the catering aisle, to store each wand. They look much nicer than the random Mason jars and coffee creamer containers I had been using for the purpose, and they have handles!
I just came up with another "hack": the pitchers would probably work really well with the little toilet brush set, for those who want to store the brush in disinfectant! I never tried storing in disinfectant, because I thought that the wire bristle connectors might rust, but a little WD-40, or similar, might prevent it!
I'm going to repost that one in the main discussion!
      I hope you're having a great morning!

I love using Dollar Tree pool noodles to make swags for weddings and showers. The noodle is just as easy to stick florals in as Styrofoam and is way less messy. I use DT zip ties to secure my greenery vines and add my florals afterward. People always ask who the florist is that made them. When they are told I made them, they always come to me, and I give them my secret hack. 😉
I love all your diys and hacks. Keep them coming.

My favorite isn't actually a hack - but quite a money saver: My grown sons often go first to the fridge when they come to our house, looking for something to eat. My youngest (adult) son looks for something he can take to work for his supper (he works evening shift). My "good" plastic storage dishes are off limits, so I buy the small plastic containers and put a portion of leftovers in them. Jake gets a ready-made meal & I don't have to hound him about bringing back the containers.

I have two small silicone ice cube trays that are small pineapples. Each pineapple holds 1 tbsp, I measured to be sure. I will buy a bag of lemons and limes, squeeze the juice out and fill the trays until frozen, pop them into a ziplock bag and repeat until all the juice is used. I do keep them separated, mark the bag with name and date. Most recipes call for tbsp measurements so you can pop them into your recipe. They are small and melt quickly😁❤️

My hack is making a important stuff car bag for each of our cars. I use one of the small pencil bags or cases. Put in a small notebook, pencil, pen, include your car insurance card & registration, important phone numbers, some change, disposable raincoat, small first aid kit...just emergency type things. It comes in very handy. I was driving my husband's car last week and was rear-ended, I knew exactly where all the insurance card information was. We keep these in the glove box.

So each of them got a red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple item! They got toys, candy, drinks, chips, flip flops, desk accessories, coloring books, craft kits, etc! We took pictures of them holding up each of their colored items, they had so much fun doing it too! FYI I have 8 grands ages 3-11, moms assisted 😉

My favorite Dollar Tree hack is using solo cups to up-pot tomato seedlings. I take one cup and burn 3-4 regular drainage holes in the bottom, and burn lots of tiny holes in the lower inch on the sides for air pruning. I put my soil in half the cup and plant my tomato seedling. I put the cup with drainage inside another solid cup. This way, the excess water drains in the lower cup, or I can put water in the lower cup to water the seedling from bottom up.
As the seedling grows taller, I just add more soil so roots can grow along the stem. This year, I had the healthiest and most stocky tomato plants before transplanting using this method. The double cup method also prevents fungus gnats from getting into the roots and laying eggs because it's completely covered by the 2nd cup!
