    someone related to flow.. was redoing the ductwork in an older home that had a newer furnace/ac. I asked the tech to clean the coil while we had the unit disconnected and when he pulled it out, to my surprise we found the installation manual laying there right on top of the coil, blocking flow. Guys, always check the new unit and remove foreign paperwork!
    That 8.5x11 manual had been there for a few years!

    Can you make a video that compares a few common flex duct brands. Maybe include what can be found at big box stores vs HAVC supply houses.

    • @ChrisDembinsky
      @ChrisDembinsky ปีที่แล้ว

      For example, a large house(3300sqft) worth of flex is $2250 in JPL but if I want to use Quietflex it would be $3350. Both R-8 metalized flex from the same supply house. It would be great to know why someone would pay an additional $1100. Quietflex does highlight their “rip-stop” scrim reinforcement. So maybe if there is a location in the attic that likely to get damaged spend the extra for “rip-stop”?

    How do I know the maximum airflow, CFM, that can be handled by some 6” flex duct I have in my attic, if I put in a booster fan to be able to increase aire flow at certain times? The duct says 4000 FPM maximum, it’s 6” duct and I’ve got about 15’ of duct run before the booster fan and then 15’ after the fan to the vent? The fan at top speed says it puts out 400 CFM. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

    I was at a house the other day where my suction pressure seemed a little low and I had 2 degrees of super heat. When I went inside to the furnace to take total external static pressure, it was rated for .5 but I was getting 0.8. I got .27 before my blower and .56 after my heat exchanger.
    I thought my evaporator coil maybe the problem because I was getting a pressure drop of .3 across it. I got .56 before the coil and .26 after the coil. I chemically cleaned the evaporator coil and even used a hose. That coil is spotless. Nothing changed as far as static pressure. I don't know the rating for that coil for pressure drop because there is no model number that I can find.
    The outdoor unit was a 5-ton so I'm assuming the evaporator coil was correct since it was the original evap coil since the house was built.
    So I started looking at duct sizing. I had a 20-in flex duct for my return. It literally 90 right off of the air handler and to the filters. I think I was getting plenty of airflow since my static pressure before the blower was .27
    For my Supply I had three 14-in flex ducts and one 6 in flex duct going to some little room.
    I don't know if I didn't have enough Supply duct but it almost seems like the coil was like a brick wall. I should have pulled one of the 14 inch ducts off and check my static pressure but I don't think that would have changed anything since I was getting 0.26 after the evaporator coil.
    Anyway, i believe I have sufficient Supply. But I'd like feedback if possible

    • @TaddyDigest
      @TaddyDigest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ductulator says 14 inch duct carries 700 cfm so for 3 that would total 2100 cfm which would be plenty for a 5 ton
      20 inch duct will carry 1800 cfm

    My house is 800 sqft. We just had a two ton unit installed. We have 6-4” and for some reason our bedroom don’t cool as it should. The bathroom and basement is beautifully cool. We have to run window units when the temp gets hot. The thermometer in our house says it gets between 78-85 degrees which is insane considering we put the thermostat to 65 to cool the house. We need the bedroom cool because we don’t want our dogs to be heated. What should we do?

    • @nrgheatcool
      @nrgheatcool 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe your air conditioner is short cycling because it's over sized(it technically should be 1 or 1.5 ton depending which area of the heat zone you live in) Maybe duct work is sized poorly. Maybe your dampers are closed in the pipes under your supply air grills in the rooms. A proper technician can find the problem.

      I just had a entire system installed last January 2021 American standard gas package my home never had one and I really looked at the york system's but I was kinda of afraid of the micro channel coil system wasn't for that I would have given you a call brother I'm in Chester co. I may swing over your way and learn some knowledge.

      I really don't like the micro channel coils
      Some of the York units don't come with micro channel but some do
      Glad you got a new system hope all is well with it

    Is there a chance I can pay someone (you?) to design my duct system? I have a large two story building and just want to run a main line down the middle and branch out to the upper levels floor venting, having only a few outlets for the lower level. The building is 90 feet long and 40 feet wide, so do I need to reduce my main line to keep pressure up? Things like that seem like it would be easy for someone who dose this stuff, I just don't know where to find someone to ask.

    Do the same rules apply to ducted mini-split systems? I vaguely recall reading something about them using higher velocities???

    I gave it a dislike because we should NOT assume that a 6” duct will deliver 100 CFM. Measuring air flow is essential instead of using a rule of thumb.

    What if I have a living room that requires 400 CFM. Instead of using four or five 6 inch ducts, can't I use a couple of 8-in?

    • @TaddyDigest
      @TaddyDigest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can use two 8" ducts and take care of that

    There's plenty of Information out there. You're saying a lot of good stuff but your duct calculations are not based on any scientific data. What's your TEL? What makes you say that a 6" pipe will give you 100CFM? There's no such thing as " giving" if everything is done right you will get a specific amount of CFM. But there's a lot more then just 6" pipe is 100 CFM. Maybe you save that for where you can make money

      @@TaddyDigest I understand. But I think it might be a bit misleading, the information on your board. You will get 100 CFM on a 6", at a specific friction rate.

    • @TaddyDigest

      To someone who knows nothing about duckwork sizing it's good information

      I wish I could do this for free. Do you think I want to charge?
      I want to do this for free.
      No what's sad is the fact that I have so much that I have to do during the day that I can't just set and focus on this.
      Do you know how many people I would help if I was to be able to just focus on this every day.
      I was hoping that the people that really needed the knowledge would support me so that I would then have time and have time to do a lot more.
      But I have a company to run and I have employees that need to feed their families so I have to do what I have to do
