Mr. Hitchens doesn't fully critique power but he does his best, better than most journalists. Open debate on all alleged historical and contemporary events is evidence of a strong and healthy civilization. The lack of such a debate is evidence of a civilization in a state of collapse. Ride the Tiger❤️🙏

The fanaticism has reached levels of hysteria now. Let's not forget that most have little to no capacity for skepticism and critical thought. They are highly dependent on being conveniently spoon fed information which they take as gospel without question.
They try and understand the climate through human comprehension. This is folly. 150 years of data (with varying reliability) is a statistical insignificance to 6 billion years. They fail to appreciate that climate can have the capacity for mild variations across what we would perceive through human experience as a long period of time. But what the planet would experience as a blip.

No need to worry about forests now. COP 26 has agreed that no forests to be cut down from 2030. There may be a huge increase in destruction until 31st December 2029 releasing the stored carbon sink held by that forest and there will be less forest to soak up the CO2 until then. The promise to protect world forest in 2014 at the New York COP, appears to have failed. Still any new forest planted will start to sequester the CO2 and produce oxygen. After all, to sequester enough CO2 to replace the carbon in a destroyed forest will only take aboiut 300 years and will not be 100% efficient until the forest has finished the replacement of the original trees. Depending on the tree species, very little CO2 is absorbed until the tree reaches its maximum girth so very little is added to the carbon sink in the new forested area!

Those who ride bikes in later years will have knee, Ankle, and hip problems, plus they think they own the roads, they should pay road tax.

Road tax was abolished in the 1930's to stop entitled drivers to make a claim to 'own' the road. Your thinking about VED aka vehicle excise duty which is based on vehicles producing emissions. Bicycles don't produce emissions so it's impossible for cyclists to pay VED. Another point is that motorists get the privilege to drive after they pass a test. This privilege is taken away if they break the law enough. Pedestrians, bicycles and horses/ carriages have been using the roads long before cars so they do get the right to use roads!
Motorists are freeloaders in that non motorists who pay income tax pay for the upkeep of our roads, i could go on......!!!

Apart from certain cities cyclists do not think they own the road. Also, unless you live in said cities, cyclists by and large happen to be car owners too so already contribute to the upkeep of the road network via RFL and diesel and petrol duties. Bikes also cause no damage to road surfaces, unlike goods vehicles and icy weather, so to be totally fair, any licence would be so low as to be not worth the effort of collecting.
Regarding your claim about the deleterious effects of cycling, where is your evidence? From what I can see, when the local CTC go out they are usually above pension age and rather spritely! Unlike your average middle aged or elderly person who is typically well overweight, leads a sedentary lifestyle, often has type II diabetes and also suffers from back and joint pain.
