I'm sorry but there is a big difference between a sephora makeup artist and a cosmetologist. Please don't rope the two in together. A cosmetologist has to bank 1500 hours of education and then take a written examination of diseases, technique, chemicals, geometry; then once that test has been passed they can take a practical examination of skills then they get their license and can apprentice for a year. A sephora makeup artist can copy youtube videos.

It just seemed to me that she wasn't exactly thrilled to have a client of Freddie's complexion. Also due to the fact that most of their videos are filmed in LA this could have been one of those ritzy suburban exclusive locations where they don't see many brown faces. Once again this is all a gut feeling based on my own thoughts.

In any case, I think all three should have gone to the same makeup parlor in order to really compare them since all three girls are different. It would have been interesting to see also if there was a difference in their treatment.

It's really sad when teens associate heavy makeup and false eyelashes with being an adult and looking mature. You can wear minimal makeup and still look mature and sophisticated. It's just how you wear it. :)

Ok, here's my analysis:
Kristen, who went to MAC, probably is my least favorite result of the three. Her makeup just didn't seem to mix well with either her looks or her personality - the winged liner she got seemed to swallow her eyes because of her small lids. I think a more subtle eye look would have gone over much better for her. Secondly, the bright pink lipstick seemed just a bit too bright. Again, this is just my impression, but a slightly darker toned lipstick would have colour matched a little better, I think. Finally, the primer that was used on her seemed rather caked on in a (somewhat vain) attempt to combat her redness, though it may have just been the lighting; a lighter foundation would look nicer.
Candace, who went to Blushington, I think came out looking the best. Her makeup artist clearly knew what she was doing, as evidenced by how she was able to interpret Candace's loose guidelines so accurately. I'm personally a fan of the subtly contour that she gave, even moreso than the gold eyeshadow, though both came out fantastic. And Candace's primer was a prime example (pardon the pun) of what Kristen should have received; it was light and had good coverage, but didn't look so obvious.
Finally we come to Freddie. Hers I'm somewhat in the middle. While I'm glad to see that the artist from Sephora was able to properly colour match Freddie's darker complexion and produce a result that didn't look washed out or grey, I also feel that she was less on the mark with Freddie's expectations. (To be fair, it seems harder for a lot of makeup artists Buzzfeed features to use makeup on darker skins, so I'll admit she did well there.) But Freddie wanted her eyes to be the focal point of her makeover, and while the plum coloured eyeshadow was a nice, subtle look, it was overshadowed by her gaudy lipstick. In my humble opinion, a nude lip would have more suited Freddie so as to not overshadow her eyeshadow (again, pardon for unintentional puns). Some false lashes would have tied up her look and really made her eyes pop.
I'm just a guy that absolutely nothing about makeup, but those were my thoughts XD
I agree that she was too subtle with freddie's eye look. The lips did compete with the eye looks (and won). However it is not harder to use makeup on darker skin. She could have went brighter or something. Sephora sells Make Up For Ever and they have some very pigmented shadows. Actually a lot of brands at Sephora have pigmented shadows. She could have done more to make the eyes stand out.

Even if it's not as obvious with the race shaming, I've never had a friendly/positive experience at MAC. Employees are usually disengaged or try to make you feel like you should be thankful they're taking the time to assist you :/
I live in Australia and I haven't gone to many different Mac stores but the few I do go to the people that work there are the nicest people I have ever been served by. Guess it just depends on the person rather than the brand

I was so relieved when they didn't mess up Freddie's makeup. So many makeup artists don't understand how to work with deeper complexions. Remember when they turned another buzzfeed WoC into the tin woman?

I think the one with Candace did the best job as she did great eyes, false eyelashes, contour etc. They all looked so pretty don't get me wrong but the makeup artist did best with Candace imo. Freddie wanted more strong eyes and I think the makeup artist should have made the eyes stronger.
I love how the MAC slogan is "All races, all sexes, all ages" yet at the age of 12 or 13 I remember being mocked by a MAC employee when I went in to try on some lipstick. I won't go into detail, but I won't be going anywhere near MAC if I don't have to.
