      I don't think hacking would be that easy, since the computer quality is very old and their networks aren't the same. It'd be like a hacker on Earth trying to hack into a computer system on an alien planets internet without having any real access to it. The UNSC AI must first gain access to the computer systems of the Rebel vessels which is not going to be easy and I doubt they could do it from afar, they need to get into the ship. Also most things are manually done in Star Wars so I'm not sure how much an AI could do

    • @cameronzwicke5761
      @cameronzwicke5761 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Nope they would have to board a rebel vessel in order to hack any system in it. They are not hackable over distance, star wars ships are made so this cannot happen as the old republic lost an entire fleet to this in the past and afterwards put in protocols to prevent this from ever happening again. Their systems have to be entered manually.

    • @mackenziebeeney3764
      @mackenziebeeney3764 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Their computers don’t network. There is nothing to hack. Everything is connected across a ship by hardwiring. Nothing is wireless. Also why you never see anything wireless except remote comms. There were slaving circuits but those are specialty hardware which is rarely used.

    • @zahylon5993
      @zahylon5993 3 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      @@mackenziebeeney3764
      If Star Wars ships don't have such wireless comunications or AI, then they would be a damn easy target for the UNSC. If any Spartan boards a capital ship, all they have to do is attack a hacking device to allow a UNSC AI to remote control the warship and turn it into a battering ram
      The SW ships already lack CIWIS, Guided Weaponry, or even computer tracking for their energy weapons.
      They have to fight at close range firing like WW1 ships.
      UNSC can sit at range and snipe them all day.
      It would be the inverse of the UNSC vs The Covenant, with Rebels having to sacrifice Dozens of ships to sink a single UNSC vessel.
      Pre-Covenant UNSC was already dealing with rebels and had their fleets at their peak. Post-Covenant UNSC has access to forerunner technology.
      Plus, they don't design their weaponry with weak spots that make them collapse instantly.

      SW fighter craft in general would all be flying coffins.
      AI controlled weapons in general would also defeat SW weapons ranges (10000km compared to 10km max).
      SW FTL is unusable as a tactical weapon, you can't jump around inside a system. Halo FTL can be used to jump distances from 10 to 10 trillion KM.
      Halo sheilds are better. They stop everything, have to flicker on and off to fire. SW sheilds are a joke, their sheild generators are not inside the shields, as evidenced by fighters been able to attack them directly while the sheilds were still up. If this is the case, UNSC ships would shred them. Archer missiles are guided precision weapons.
      On the ground, UNSC stomps, simple because they know 2 things. Military tactics and orbital fire support.

      Even should Luke be present, it's entirely possible Spartans would stomp him, they are just as fast if not faster than him, far stronger than him, and lightsabres don't block physical projectiles, especially ones that move at realistic speeds unlike all those in the SW universe. They are also immune to force abilities (as non force connected beings such as the Yong prove), best he could do is throw rocks at them, and they'll just respond by throwing them back or dodging them.

Also as their armour is from outside the SW universe it also has no force presence. SW sheilds are a joke and don't actually exist. They are a pure plot device. Or to be more precise, their sheilds don't actually work against anyone with any brains.
      Its seen on multiple occasions that their sheild generators (especially those in ISD's) can be destroyed without first knocking out the sheilds, meaning they are outside the sheilds, meaning their sheilds do not offer complete coverage.
      The arguement of "the fighters flew inside the sheild to do it" means the sheilds don't stop fighters, thus they don't stop solid objects, which means they stop exactly no UNSC weapons fire.
      If the sheild generator is outside the sheild, archer missiles would make short work of them all.
      If your going to have sheilds, they have to actually work properly.
      Also Covenant sheilds are much more solid, they have to flicker on and off just to fire through them from the inside, so fighters can't do the SW tactic of shooting sheild generators. Ion torpedoes don't hit the ship, and would have no effect on the sheild (nukes also do EMP and they did nothing to covenant sheilds).

      @@cgi2002 playing devils advocate here. I have no horse in this race. That said...a couple issues with your statement.
      1. The movie dialogue clearly states their shields were down moments before the a-wings bombed the bridge projectors/sensor domes.
      2. Last time I checked star wars ships had 2 types of shields ray and particle. Ray shields stopped energy weapons while particle shields were for kinetic weapons.
      3.Ray shields are projected away from the hull allowing fighters to fly in as ray shields dont stop physical objects. While particle shields hug the hull.
      Edit: emp and ionization are two different phenomena.also we see the ionization effect of missiles and canons spread across shielded ships as seen in the empire strikes back and rogue one.

    • @cgi2002
      @cgi2002 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      @@marcosrios1246 fair points but i have counters. Sorry, this gets really long.
      Point 1: the 2 A-wings destroy the sheild generator before the line "sir we've lost our bridge deflector sheild". Which leads into point 2.
      Point 2, a SSD seems to have a "deflector sheild", that is neither a Ray or Particle sheild, unless it is a term for a combined version of both, so I'll go with that. So the claim to have 2 types of sheilds i'll accept, but the sheilds can't/don't work how people have claimed, atleast not according to how physics says they should. Also as much as I hate ep8, Kylo flies inside the sheilds of the Raddus (they are clearly up, there would not be a big bloody hole in them for the hangars, if there is Halo would abuse that too).
      Episode 3 Anakin & Obi'wan get caught in a "ray" sheild. If it doesn't stop physical matter they could walk through it, they can't (or don't, they are idiots after all), so ray sheilds also appear to stop particles aka matter, atleast solid matter. (Provided the dialogue was accurate).
      So SW actually has no directed energy weapons, all their weapons are physical weapons that rely on some form of matter. Their blasters, lasers and turbolasers fire what is according to physics, plasma (ionized gas is plasma). Their lasers simply aren't lasers, they are plasma blasts, the exception is a super turbo laser, it is an enigma (too slow to be laser, but doesn't behave like a plasma stream, not important here anyway).
      So a turbo laser fires a plasma blast, you stop the physical material, you'd stop the energy effect, leaving it floating in space as a plasma cloud. Unless that is the sheilds actually repel physical projectiles (never seen know screen, so not the case), all they do it neutralise their kinetic energy by absorbing it all (exactly how physical armour works).
      This is a particle sheild, it works only on solid matter by removing kinetic energy, unless I am completely wrong.
      So with that in mind, a sheild that stops physical matter would stop all SW weapons, yet it apparently doesn't, or atleast isn't the go to choice for it.
      Moving on, a ray sheild doesn't appear to stop actual flames, meaning it can't work by absorbing thermal energy. So logically if it works on SW energy weapons, it absorbs the ionizing radiation that is turning gas into plasma or it dispels the magnetic forces holding the blast together as a single cohesive projectile. Both are viable options, the latter is easier, but visuals don't show either case. They show blasts hitting the sheilds and detonating as a fireball effect. My mind says, these blasts actually hit a particle sheild, and Ray sheilds don't exist as they don't seem to work as anything but a solid wall, and yet fighters can still fly through them.
      Frankly SW sheilds are too inconsistent to be deemed a viable defence, they are a plot device, shown to be both impenetrable and entirely fallible as the need arises.
      Random extra bit because, this is already too long.
      Should note I am purposely ignoring the actual scifi plot hole with all sheilds. A sheild that stops everything makes you both invisible and blind. No light gets in, none out, your ship becomes a solid black bubble from the outside. And inside you see nothing, at all. You would also be cut off from everyone else as communications also can't work through this.
      The arguement of "they don't block X frequency on the EM spectrum" doesn't work either. You leave a specific weakness, someone is going to find a way to weaponize it. Only way to explain this is mirco weaknesses in the sheilds, tiny holes that open and close constantly, alot like how covenant sheilds pulse for weapons fire, but smaller and alot more of them.

      Ray shields will fry organics it's been stated and observed either in film as you noted or official material. The energy field it creates absorbs incoming energy lasers, plasma, radiation. The energy pumping through them is enough to kill an organic. Battle droids have been seen stepping through shields though, but they are metallic in nature though.
      Yes, I agree the shields abilities in star wars are inconsistent and some do seem hybridized. Best examples scarrif's sheild which was visible, and death star 2 which were invisible but they banked hard away from the shield when they realized it was still up. Maybe it depends who makes the shields in universe? Gungans, mon cals, or imperials etc.
      2nd Edit: What in the blue blazes? TH-cam swallowed my 1st edit. I'm not gonna try and retype all that on my phone again.

I prefer consistency myself and it leaves me shaking my head when they cant get their shit straight.

    The thing is, that is OFTEN missed when talking about the UNSC is how they are used to being on losing side. Its no secret that the Star Wars universe is more advanced than Halo when it comes to cruisers. Butttttt, you have to remember Eck, that the UNSC turned what could have been a short war into a 28 year year with how the UNSC started to fight back against the Covies. If we look at the Rebels WITHOUT Plot Amour, I say they stand no real chance. Sure, they have the better tech, and some really intelligent admirals, but the UNSC has people like Admiral Cole, Captian Keyes, Miranda Keyes, Lord Hood, etc. Most admirals in the UNSC managed to outsmart the Covies most of the time. You also seem to undermind the sheer power of the UNSC guns. Fighters and bombers WOULD NOT be able to get close to any UNSC Ship, due to their superior point defense weapons, and if we included Sabers and Shortswords, fighters would hold them back. The UNSC may not be as powerful as some of the Rebel ships, but damn, they would make the Rebels cower in fear.

      Very well said. The military skill and pedgree of the UNSC is amazing. The education, leadership, experience, bravery, and cunning of their leadership is remarkable. Cole, Keyes, Hood, Hacket, and pretty much any partway competent UNSC officer would be a special legend in the Rebellion.
      The professionalism and quality of the UNSC also extends to their individual troops. The average Covenant Elite that they have to fight on a routine basis is pretty much a Dark Trooper. UNSC fighters are more skilled and better trained at combat. Star Wars troops walk in linear formations to get themselves killed in huge numbers.
      One place the UNSC would be decided better would be in ground battles. Their standard weapon, the MA5 series, sends downrange 10 7.62x51 shots per second. Those kinds of shots defeat light cover, light personal armor, and go through and through bodies. They're destructive in a way handheld blasters just are not. Star Wars has no good analog for the ground weapons of the UNSC. They would have significant issues with defeat Scorpion tanks, for example.
      The UNSC has a huge advantage with slipspace versus hyperspace. They are not limited to specific lanes, and can even dip in and out of locations and engagements. Imagine a UNSC intel cell getting the location of a Rebellion hub, sending that to high command, who send a task force of capital ships to drop in to high orbit, rain hell down with MAC cannons, and then fly off before they can react.

    I would give it to the the UNSC, they have better strategists than the Rebels it seems. The Rebels seem to mainly focus on starfighter combat and with the Broadswords or the Sabres the UNSC has they can easily take on the rebel starfighters. The UNSC capital ships and ODPs have excellent point defense systems which are typically operated by AIs. When there is a ground war or a ship boarding action, ODSTs and Spartans are far superior infantrymen than Rebel soldiers. The Covenant had better tech and the UNSC fought a 27 year campaign against them using superior tactics, and better trained soldiers.

      I think a good question that must be asked is: how well do Star Wars starfighter shields hold up to bullets?
      And do "slug throwers" fire fast enough to overwhelm Star Wars starfighter shielding? Because if not, then rebel fighters would do much better than we expect, even if still not good enough.
      On the otherhand, the UNSC has missiles, *lots* of them, and Star Wars starfighters don't have appropriate countermeasures.

      @@adamofblastworks1517 IMO a Mac cannon from a capitol ship could be able to take out any star wars capitol ship in 1 or 2 shots. I also think star fighters would not be a problem, not because of UNSC fighters, but because of point defense systems. The rebel alliance wouldn’t be used to such good point defense systems. every time they would try to get in close for a bombing run the UNSC would just destroy their fighters and gunners with capitol ship guns.

      @@personperson8563 Yeah, you have a *point* about their point defense :D
      Their point defense did next to squat against the Covenant because their weapon shots couldn't really be shot down. They could only be detonated "prematurely" by using another ship or extra spaced layers of armor and hull sections.
      Proper point defense would prevent decent usage of any starfighter proton-torpedoes (especially since they don't use tactics of having multiple squadrons dump fire proton-torpedoes en mass to overwhelm the Empire's nonexistent point defense). Starfighter lasers would put holes into the armor, maybe the hull, but not go through multiple layers and decks (do Star Wars lasers have penetration power? I guess they do, since Storm Trooper armor isn't 100% effective...) or make giant gashes in their capital ships.
      Point defense would also tear starfighters apart with overwhelming fire.
      However, I'm not sure how well MAC cannons would be able to deal with rebel capital ships. They had issues dropping Covenant shields (possible, but difficult), and many Mon-calamari ships had excellent defensive capabilities, arguably better than the Covenant's. They had the sections and armor comparable to or better than the UNSC, and many had *multiple, overlapping* shields. So a MAC might be able to drop one shield, but there would likely still be another one covering the same area.

      Comparing equipment, they would be more or less on par with one another. The lack of body armour for the rebels for the most part, compared to their weapons being (probably) Ionized plasma bolts in the same way that covenant weapons are, would be effective against marine armour. However. Marines can survive being blasted by plasma weapons, so on that alone, marines can kill rebels easily with their slug weapons, rebels would have a little more difficulty against marines equipment.
      When we get to other factors, like that a typical marine squad would have varied weapons, not just assault rifles, pistols, and frag grenades, in addition to many marines having fought in a loosing war for the better part of a decade, there's a good chance a standard marine will be better prepared for combat when compared to the ragtag militia of the rebels. Sure, they had some defectors from the empire, and some from planetary defence forces. Maybe a few veteran commanders from the clone wars if you push it. But compared to the average experience of the marines, the rebels are likely less prepared.
      In short, a squad vs squad engagement, I see marines winning more often than not, depending on circumstances of who is ambushing the other, how quickly their leaders respond etc. (Also pretty sure Eck, or generation tech has already done a video on this topic)

    There's one thing I see alot of people forget about or just leave out when talking about unsc ships vs other factions. Its that mac's that when hitting a covenant ships shield didn't just fizzle out and do nothing, it would push or throw it around. Covenant ships shields could take the impact but they are in space and the kinetic force from the mac round moved into it target. One example is a single Super mac's round punched through covenant super carriers shields and went through the entire ship from to back and as it was passing through it the kinetic force tore the ship a new one and tore its armor off. Mac's do a ton of damage, just think of how a mc80 would fair when a round lands on its shield and the entire ship is moved or flipped around. Also missiles tend to pass through star wars shields and unsc got plenty of those just saying.

    • @CoolColton947
      @CoolColton947 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Star Wars shields fall into two categories, ray shields and the normal "energy" shielding. Ray shields are, essentially, unbreakable walls that disintegrate basically all physical material and kinetic energy placed against them. The only caveat being that Star Wars ships can't shoot back while they have those shields up, though considering Star Wars tactics being a tad bit more advanced than UNSC tactics -this being a conclusion drawn simply by the fact Star Wars has defined itself by having large-scale space battles be the norm for most of their history- this one weakness could be worked around. Especially with their use of Mon Calamari capital ships, which were monsters by their own right, and old Republic capital ships they could simply use a front line of ships acting as shields, a tactic that is commonly used in both Legends and canon, to take many of those rounds and allow the other ships to deploy fighters, fire around them, and simply be safer. Those shields would go down eventually, but the UNSC lacks a lot of defense when it comes to their ships and would probably get picked apart.
      So MAC rounds would definitely do some damage, but the moment a single ship realizes that the UNSC exclusively uses kinetic weaponry then the Rebels would act accordingly. So it's not the end-all-be-all you make it out to be.

    • @silentdrew7636

      The problem with that is that the Rebels would largely be using fighters to attack the UNSC, which are far too.small for the MAC gun to be usable, and can close the distance before the UNSC ships can do anything to them, just look at the battle of Having, where rebel fighters cover a distance of 500,000+ KM in a few minutes.

    I'm going to side with the UNSC for one simple reason. I see turbo laser technology to be comparable to Covenant plasma mortars, meaning that the UNSC would be more accustomed to dealing with such attacks. Meanwhile, all the defensive measures that are shown in Star Wars seam geared towards mitigating thermal energy and I foresee a fair amount of trouble defending against the kinetic energy attacks that the UNSC would be using. And I have to think that the longsword "fighters" weren't meant to be what are called dominance fighters, and I'd seriously doubt that there wouldn't be a dominance fighter, even if it wasn't shown on screen, as that would be a massive oversight by the UNSC fleet planners. Instead, I see the longswords being fighter-bombers, filling the same battlespace role as a y-wing, with a ship launched version of Halo Reach's sabre, which I'd like to call the raspier, filling the x-wings multirole function the way the pelicans fill the u-wing's dropship role, and finally a theoretical gladius fighter to fill that dominance role. I mean, the Covenant had the seraph for the fighter-bomber role and the banshee for the dominance role.

      Thing is the capital ships won't be the deciding factor. It will be the star fighters. A squadron of Xwings could easily perform hit and run missions on the slow clunky and in comparison relatively defenceless UNFC ships. The deflector shield they use to travel through hyperspace would likely be powerful enough to deflect stander anti-fighter weapons. In the end it will come down to a reble fighters dropping out in system crossing then moving to target in minutes or even seconds before jumping out of system and away form danger. All while the capital ships are safe a few 100 light years away

    Fleet battle between
    Grand admiral Thrawn vs. Ender Wiggin
    Each one has an equal sized fleet with equally capable subordinates, and since Ender is from a different universe each has equal understanding of the technology they’re using. They are in command of Star Wars vessels. Pick a famous fleet of your choosing I’d suggest death squadron.

      Oof, fair point. I missed that. If either of them just went in balls to the wall I'd give Ender a MUCH better chance at victory since thrawns fleet consists of poorly fitted ships crewed by war weary veterans.
      Hell I even think ender would have the upper hand here, because star destroyers are pretty straightforward while in enders game humanities ships are... different to say the least. So ender would have a much better idea of what he's facing. Hell Thrawn may actually retreat before the battle even starts just to make sure he can get an idea of what to do.

    • @daveparker6979
      @daveparker6979 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@spiffygonzales5899 I suspect Thrawn would have the advantage after the first engagement, as Ender's technology ( as far as I know only having read the one book ) relies on conventional technology for getting their ships places, Thrawn would be able to disengage at will, attack wherever he wanted, and I suspect be able to defeat whatever fleet Ender was assigned in detail. Also, Ender handles extreme stress well, but is kept at an extreme level of stress, which in the book leads to errors of judgment. While Thrawn is not immune to such errors, in any given engagement I would trust him to have the cooler head more able to pick apart his opponent.

    Hey @Eckharts Ladder, you left out something about post-war UNSC that's really very vital to this:
    They have Huragoks onboard their ships now, especially the Infinity. Not only would the rebels be forced to use their shields in a guerilla warfare tactical focus due to the size of the UNSC, but also they would hands down lose at a drawn out war due to the Huragok engineers being able to rapidly reverse engineer any and all Rebel tech. Their superior FTL? Their shields? Their fighters? Their turbolasers? All UNSC tech in literal hours after the UNSC can manage to capture it. And THAT'S where the Spartans come in and shine. Get just one Spartan onboard, and you have a captured gunship. Get a full squad of four and you have a captured cruiser. Get the Infinity in the fight, and you've taken Home One.
    But I'd also like to say that neither would be able to track the other's FTL due to not understanding it at first, but Halo FTL doesn't have to be in such a straight line, even with the Covenant war era lower tech. I shouldn't have even said the rebels had superior FTL a second ago necessarily, because their superior speed and distance isn't the only metric for military tech comparisons. The UNSC ships with the help of shipboard dumb AIs, or just one smart AI for the local fleet, could jump across a solar system to wind up henhind themselves. No need to turn so slowly to about-face. Moreover, since the rebels don't have slipspace drives, the UNSC could use the portals formed by their drives as a weapon. This wouldn't work so well against Covies since they can just fire up their own drives to compensate and maintain structural integrity, hence why Noble team had to take the super carier by surprise by using a Convenient Corvette at Reach. The rebel ships would frequently be split to pieces, with half of them teleported to oblivion.
    I'm extremely interested to hear what you think about these two views.

Seeing a squad of stormtroopers deal with some marine sharpshooters would be really interesting (not seeing blaster bolts to determine location/massively outranged/pinpoint crippling shots/ massive concussive force with even partial hits/ no self-cauterizing wounds) I know star wars blasters would still likely melt most USNC armor even more than covenant weapons, but seeing the empire panic as some unknown force using "ancient" technology just unloads with 10-20 Assault Rifles at once would just be really interesting to see how they'd adapt and try to combat such a threat.
