  • As Marin's website says, "BUILT FOR ABUSE AND ROWDY RIDING, ENDURO-STYLE RIDING AND RACING, BIG BIKE, BIG WHEELS, BIG FUN" that seems like a pretty accurate way to talk about the new Alpine Trail.
    This bike was originally released in 2021 but because of parts shortages, not many made it into the wild. Because of this, and because this bike was a fresh design it has been carried over to 2022 without any changes

    Took a Marin Alpine-1, on a long XC ride in February. Rome to Sackets Harbor, NY. Kept the 2.5 tire on front. Installed a 2.3 WTB tire, on the rear. Rockshox coil shock. Rig handled smoothly on rough Winter roads. The 5p.m., rush hour traffic, was more of a panic attack than rocketing down any mountain trail. The Gemini Titan 4000 and Lumicycle Apex lights, were a big plus in vehicles giving me space. As were the four Cygolite hypershot 350s, I had attached.

    Thanks a lot for this video, I'm supposed to get mine on Wednesday but I was a little worried about climbing tho, this bike is heavier and has more travel than my previous giant stance 2 bike but I'm feeling a little relieved after hearing it's still good for climbing just like the previous model. I guess I will have to do some leg weights to compensate for the extra weight.

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup. I've ridden a version of this bike for the last week and can confirm it is still quite a good climber considering how capable on descents. Give a few rides to get accustomed to timing of technical moves (front wheel a little further out front) and make sure you approach skinnies more straight on (the front and rear wheel track more different paths the longer and slacker the bike). By the third ride I cleared technical climb sections that I get excited to clear on less burly bikes.

    I have the 2020 alpine trail 7, and I love my bike. It is really playful. I did change out the Vee flow snap tires for Continental Trail King 29x2.4 black chili compound front and back. It made the bike really fast with excellent control. It also lightened the bike a lot. A really great bike. That square head badge is really cool. I wonder if Marin have those as a separate purchase.

    Nice looking bike. Just got a 2021 rift zone 2 for the wife.What is the reasoning other then price to spec the kmc chain a slx isn't expensive and it lets you shift under load.

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would trust the KMC as much as a Shimano chain for shifting under pressure. I can only imagine that the price or efficiency of factory assembly is enough to convince most companies to use KMC chains as it is a very popular spec.

    @devinbyrnes8058 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not the bike for me. Helpful review. I like the annotations in the top corner for additional info you wanted to add. Jealous of your customers. The only local store with a bike I want in stock requires payment before they assemble it. So even if the bike store has it in, you still are buying it without throwing a leg over. Getting frustrated, part of me just wants to commit to staying on the old hardtail one more year until bike buying returns to somewhat normal.

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Devin, I scribble down a number of things that I want to mention then just film in one shot and try to talk the way I would if I was just showing the bike in person... the annotations are either things I missed or where I think a bit more explanation is needed. Sorry to hear about your local shop experience. I don't like to hear about customers getting that sort of treatment. It has been an extremely tiring and stressful year in shops and a pile more challenges going into next year - I think some shops may be so stressed they're losing sight of the simple things like looking after customers.

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lukas, that isn't really a thing that Shimano talks about - it is a Shimano hub and Shimano isn't know for quick engagement - however they probably do make better hubs than what would have been offered if it weren't for Shimano being the only company making price-point hubs that can use the new 10-51 12 speed cassette.

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love them both and have ridden both. The Reign is a little bit lighter but I would be hard pressed to come up with a reason to choose one over the other. What we've seen in the store is people choosing because of the bike's appearance (colour/shape) and whichever brand they are attracted to. This year, with the bike shortage, you'd likely decide by which one you can actually find available.

    I would like to buy the Alpine Trail 7 2021. The size chart for XL ist 6'2" - 6'4" I´m 6,4"
    Reach: 515, Toptube Effective 652, Wheelbase 1297. The seat tube is only 430 and the seatpost has only 175mm travel. I am concerned it might be to small. Especially because I like big, long bikes.

      In Canada the Alpine Trail 7 and Giant Reign 29 2 are the 2 best quality/price all-mountain bikes. Both around $3500. I don't know of any bikes below $4000 (maybe $4500?) with piggy back shocks
