    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

When I hear Swami Sarvapriyananda he transport me to those people that had the fortune to hear the speech of Swami Vivekananda in person 100 years ago. If he is not his reincarnation at least he is a living continuation of his teachings We all are so fortunate to live in the TH-cam era that make available his teachings to all of us.

Fantastic. @50:00 He spoke words of Swami Vivekananda like Swami Vivekananda. Having listened to his 1893 speech, I automatically read his books in his speaking style with confidence and authority. And so true, rarely have I found English translations convey exact meaning written conveyed in sanskrit, they give you an inkling but not exactly what is conveyed. Having studied sanskrit and knowing hindi helps a great deal, but Swami Viveekananda's books are a rare exception. Each of his precise, concise yet complete words are like mantras in english itself.

This, indeed, is an amazing and fascinating lecture. Very important, difficult subject but explained very nicely and made simple to understand.

Vedanta tells us that everything that is subject to change is fundamentally unreal. If the subtle body is subject to change how can it persist beyond the death of the physical body? If the subtle body is made up of memory, intellect, feelings and mind, it surely must come to an end at the death of the body as they all are intrinsically linked to the existence of a physical body.

I am not trying to answer your question, I am no expert, but I am trying to think from my own side and sake. True, the subtle body must also be impermanent. This can happen if it continues to change after the death of the gross body. Ultimately it could be so different from what it was sometime ago that the identity will be lost. Also, the subtle body only correlates with the gross body and is NOT "dependently" linked. So, it need not end at the death of the body. Just as my clothes will not "die or disappear" after my body disintegrates and decomposes following my death. Any alternative thoughts?

You have been a revelation for me, Swami ji. I am now also reading Dom Bede Griffiths, a Catholic monk, who also found 'enlightenment' in Vedanta Advaita... corroborating the best in Christian theology. Thank you, and grateful for what more may come : )

Oh Great Swami please do accept my prostration.

This talk is enlightening. If you want to know more about the 4 parts of our mind, Sadhguru has a beautiful talk on that. It is in one of his conservations with a neuroscientist.

Happy to see Swami Sarvapriyananda carry forward Swami Vivekananda's legacy of lecture series in America as ferociously as Swami Vivekananda himself did in the 1893 starting at Chicago. Swami Vivekananda was the most influential spiritual leader India ever produced. Always been influenced by him and his teachings since childhood because there was some attraction in his writings..The whole non religion, non dualism was attractive.. There was brightness, intellectualism and positivity in it; he talked sense... just got mesmerized by this full lecture. its incredible.. Swami Vivekanada was always a childhood ideal and a role model. He was a youth icon.. a beacon of light for me.. I could never ignore him.. but also never had the courage to read his books... as they were too cryptic.. but now I understand it.. This is not some worshipping methodologies of gods and goddesses orthodoxies etc.. these are intense talks to understand your own real self deeply. About "who Am I"; recognizing your real nature which transcends all religion.
