The fact that they knocked down the slushy so they could fit more is astonishing considering that we have products here that leave empty holes in packaging thus giving you less product for your money
For those concerned, I live in Taiwan and they recycle all of their plastics (every home and apartment has a recycling area and when the trash and recyclables are collected, they seperate them into the different types of recyclables) these plastic bags are most like made of recycled plastic and will 99% be recycled. But yes, she should have asked for no bag, or could've just asked for paper only
I am an American born Taiwanese so please correct me if I’m wrong but the times where I’ve been back to Taiwan, they actually charge you money to use their plastic bags at stores such as 7/11, FamilyMart, ect. I wonder why the street vendors don’t do this as well? This can be an incentive to use less plastic bags and if someone really needs a baggy, they could pay for it.
Taiwan's easily one of the best countries to visit, it's not super popular yet so it feels way less touristy than Japan or Korea - especially outside Taipei!
in theory I agree, but the paperbag is to absorb the grease, the plastic is to keep it sanitary and for convenience. But yes, waaaay too much plastic usage.
Paper gets soggy, people hang their food on motorcycles, Taiwan rains a lot. But also, Taiwan literally recycles everything... So it's literally negligible. Taiwanese people also have a culture of reusing so I can promise you most of those bags will go to other uses before final tossing.

As a Mandarin language learner with strong food interests, I really appreciated that this video shows her actually ordering! I've watched so many street food and night market videos where they skip over that and only show the food once it's purchased. One basic question for anyone: is "可以要一個xxx" (as she says here) a good way to place an order? Are there other good, polite ways too? Textbooks say "來一個" but that doesn't feel right to me. When I once asked a native speaker from China how she would order food, she said "我們點xxx." I feel like maybe that's fine in a restaurant, but somehow that doesn't feel right for street food.
