I am an American born Taiwanese so please correct me if I’m wrong but the times where I’ve been back to Taiwan, they actually charge you money to use their plastic bags at stores such as 7/11,
FamilyMart, ect. I wonder why the street vendors don’t do this as well? This can be an incentive to use less plastic bags and if someone really needs a baggy, they could pay for it.

They’re actually super strict about recycling there. You’ll get fined if you don’t recycle right in some areas
For those concerned, I live in Taiwan and they recycle all of their plastics (every home and apartment has a recycling area and when the trash and recyclables are collected, they seperate them into the different types of recyclables) these plastic bags are most like made of recycled plastic and will 99% be recycled. But yes, she should have asked for no bag, or could've just asked for paper only
Yes! They have one of the highest rates of recycling in the world
That is good to know. But atleast they should promote to lessen plastic waste.
Say it for the people in the back
First aim should be to reduce.
And then what we can't recycle that
Just because they recycle doesn’t justify using so much plastic.

They already placed the food inside a paper bag. I just don’t see the reason to place it inside plastic after that.
in theory I agree, but the paperbag is to absorb the grease, the plastic is to keep it sanitary and for convenience. But yes, waaaay too much plastic usage.
My thoughts exactly.
Well, it's still better than two layers of plastic.
Paper gets soggy, people hang their food on motorcycles, Taiwan rains a lot. But also, Taiwan literally recycles everything... So it's literally negligible. Taiwanese people also have a culture of reusing so I can promise you most of those bags will go to other uses before final tossing.
You are right! It’s not plastic.

The amount of plastic used in this video is scary
Sophie Lynch sksksksksksksksks
I liked how the red bean cake people used a paper bag ╮(^▽^)╭
plastic bags for food are actually mostly Polypropylene, which is reusable. And Taiwan actually has one of the highest annual recycle rates in the world, and people are actually pushing for biodegradable PBS to be used in food packages. So I hope this could at least put you at ease for a little bit.
Sophie Lynch The amount of plastic women in the U.S. is scary.
boop 373 Not saying that using paper is bad, but while it is biodegradable, the trees cut down for the paper takes decades to grow and did you know that paper straws are actually worse for the environment? I think we should find something that is reusable rather than disposable
She probably could have done without all those plastic bags... food seems tasty though.
Taiwan uses recycled plastic so do research before u diss my country cuz of plastic

Too much unnecessary plastic 😖
Yeah, but majority of plastic used in Taiwan are polylactide or Polycaprolactone so they heavily recycle and reuse plastic. Here in the US since recycling policy are in manufacturors and special interest's favor we often using Polystyrene and other non recyclable plastics (think ziplock bags, potato chip bags, single cheese wrappers...). And since our waste management doesn't separate those stuff it go into landfill and the sea, while taiwanese separates their trash melt them down into raw pallets/filament to be reuse again.

Why do you need a plastic bag for a single drink 🤦♂️
Because if we hold it with no plastic bag our hand will be cold and freezing
@@Random-xp9ew But in Us we don't need plastic to hold our slushy like Icy
@@kamikaze.visuals7812 Yea but in the US we also sell slushies in plastic cups 3x the size of that one which uses significantly more plastic than that small, thin, plastic bag. No one in the US buys a slushie unless it's the biggest cup since it's so evenly priced with the other sizes.
@@shambam4162 Bro it's not really full plastic there's some paper mixed with it
Direct contact with the hand will have the slush melt more quickly than it should and also, conveniece I guess. Since there are some people that take them home rather than drink them on the way.
As an Indian, I find it impressive that no vendor is actually touching the food with hands; which is so common in India. And also good to know that there are many options without meat too 💆🏻♂️
