Some of the greatest dialogue in a musical ever. Every actor in this classic movie is a star. Sheer joy to watch and those people who think Marlon Brando can't sing don't know anything about music. Also, for anyone who thinks that musicals are sissy, this (and Paint Your Wagon) is the one that best disproves that.
Probably because Ed didn't have much time to film his portion of this trailer, as he was busy producing and emceeing "TOAST OF THE TOWN" during the summer of '55 [NO repeats]. The idea was to just get him in and out of the studio......
Ed Sullivan did indeed make multiple trips to Hollywood to help Sam Goldwyn promote this film...his October 9, 1955 episode [on CBS] featured interviews on the set with Marlon, Frank and Vivian, and excerpts from some of their musical numbers.
I was privilige to be a part of this play in High School; "Sit down your rockin' the boat" ,, its great to walk out on stage with two beautiful young girls on each arm during this broadway hit.
Imaging that I've never heard of this right off the bat, If someone ever told me that Marlon Brando was in a musical like this one, I'd be like... "You expect me to believe that, THE Marlon Brando in a light-hearted musical called Guys & Dolls? HA!!
@freddyrichards Marlon Brando had some surprises like Bedtime Story (1964) aka the original Dirty Rotten Scoundrels ...Brando played the Steve Martin part
@@lindseyr5177 He also had some other surprises. Sayonara, Mutiny on the Bounty, Orpheus Descending, Teahouse of the August Moon, where he played a Japanese, and A Countess from Hong Kong, to name a few of his turkeys. He made two great films that he was great in - Streetcar and Waterfront. The rest were embarrassing.
To hell with Channing Tatum and JGL! If they ever remade this movie; they should cast Luke Evans as Sky Masterson; Ewan McGregor as Nathan Detroit; Julianne Hough as Miss Adelaide and Sierra Boggess (Ariel in Broadway's The Little Mermaid) as Sister Sarah Brown!
I won't be surprised if Ewan McGregor was casted because of his previous history with Guys and Dolls. But I won't mind if Seth McFarlane has that pleasure of playing Nathan Detroit.
Such a wonderful show least of all movie I actually was fortunate to know Jeff Wayne son of Jerry Wayne who played the lead role role I enjoyed staying with them as a young guy age 13 at Hamilton Terrace St John Wood in or about 1955 Jeff Wayne wrote the musical "War of the World" many years later
Sam Goldwyn wanted "a big name star" like Marilyn Monroe or Betty Grable to appear as "Adelaide". Fortunately, he couldn't get them, so he had to settle for Vivian, the original "Adelaide" of the Broadway version.
What a terrible trailer. Hardly shows you any of the music or dancing... Also notice how the guy keeps on shifting his eyes to look at the teleprompter and the back to the camera?
Probably because Sam Goldwyn spent over $5 million dollars producing the film (VERY expensive for him, as he hadn't produced a musical since "Hans Christian Andersen", three years before)- and the cost of producing the trailer was considerably cheaper.
I love Jean Simmons and her singing voice is pretty. Would have preferred Betty Grable to Vivian Blaine.I’m totally over Brando in anything and his role should have gone to Frank Sinatra who remains the greatest singer in the business.
Me I work 4 da Sisters, the widows n orphans ;) Peace and Love , ALL of Father's Blessings be upon each and every ONE of US. Namaste Shalom and Mahalo ✌️😍💣😘👏🍇😎💎🤐 StLMnAvaIL
Ed wasn't telecast in color at the time. As he mentioned, he helped promote the film on his CBS program (in October 1955). Besides, this was originally a WIDE-SCREEN trailer (cropped, for some reason).
I Like Frank Sinatra movie's I Have on DVD Cast a giant Shadow From here to eternity Guy's and Doll's High society Never so few Oceans 11 Von Ryans express
Listening to Brando sing - over 100 takes on each song, pasted together - is almost as bad as it is to watching his struggle to sing. Considering the source material. this is one of the worst stage to screen adaptations of a hit musical, ever put on the screen. The dancing is terrific - that's it.
I Like Marlon Brando movie's I Have on DVD Apocalypse now The Godfather Guy's and Doll's Last tango in Paris On the waterfront One eyed Jacks The score A streetcar named desire Superman

Funny How Ed Sullivan Is Clearly Reading Cue Cards!
Probably because Ed didn't have much time to film his portion of this trailer, as he was busy producing and emceeing "TOAST OF THE TOWN" during the summer of '55 [NO repeats]. The idea was to just get him in and out of the studio......
Haha! so true!
That's One Of My Favorite Old Movie Musicals

"Marlon Brando had never sang a note in his life."
What? Really? I never would've guessed!
theniftytable His attitude already made us guess that
Everyone???

I Am Getting That DVD For Easter 2017
Insightful commentary by Ed Sullivan! I saw a middle school production of Guys and Dolls when I was 11. But I actually never seen this movie version.
Wished to watch this...Marlon singing and dancing...
it's a great musical! Sky Masterson 🔥😏
“What can you do me” 🙏

You might mention the women as well-- Jean Simmons and Vivienne Blane.

Gracias.
Better than the best!!!!
Those cue cards doe xD
I love this movie
I do not know why, but this picture somehow reminds me of the "Absolute Beginners".
The one with Bowie?
Mr. Sinatra! 💖
What a terrible trailer. Hardly shows you any of the music or dancing... Also notice how the guy keeps on shifting his eyes to look at the teleprompter and the back to the camera?
Trailers were really bad years ago. I've not seen a good trailer from the era.
Probably because Sam Goldwyn spent over $5 million dollars producing the film (VERY expensive for him, as he hadn't produced a musical since "Hans Christian Andersen", three years before)- and the cost of producing the trailer was considerably cheaper.
I noticed that

Was this a large-scale paid advertisement on the Ed Sullivan show or was it a in-theater trailer?
More like an in theatre trailer
Ed wasn't telecast in color at the time. As he mentioned, he helped promote the film on his CBS program (in October 1955). Besides, this was originally a WIDE-SCREEN trailer (cropped, for some reason).

An odd comment given they were mentioned several times. Did you watch the video?
Paint Your Wagon is a thousand times better than the flop Guys and Duds
But I hate this trailer
This is a waste of time.....it is not a trailer.. .
It is indeed a legitimate trailer.
